My Yamaha RXV 667 lasted for 7 years. Then had to repair it as CPU gone bad due to moisture. If it was in dry climate area, it would have lasted more.
Hmm... I have never had issues with AVRs... ( Used only Denon..3 models) ...all of them have lasted for about 10 yrs without any issues... May be just lucky and Hope it continues...Could you say all reveivers last 9 years? Speakers do but reveivers dont last more than 3 or 4 years where a very popular moisture induced pcb repair work has been documented by many in this forum itself due to Indian climatic conditions. Plus HDMI boards are the problem child as u have witnessed yourself. It could happen a day after warranty too. 9 years is an outlier case. The possible median and mode of such data distribution available by those who own a receivee would fall at 3 years.
Good to see other having better life with the AVR. Hope your next one has better life.My Yamaha RXV 667 lasted for 7 years. Then had to repair it as CPU gone bad due to moisture. If it was in dry climate area, it would have lasted more.
Don't change AVR if possible, Sid. Could be just fuse in the primary or secondary supply. My 3 year old denon 3700h is not powering on at all, all of a sudden. I watched a movie last week and it worked fine. After that its been powered off and today it wouldn't turn on (changed power cord etc. etc) - I use receivers for max 3-4 hours a week, so this has about 700-800 hours tops. Will give it for repair (I suspect fuse) and if it is a big repair bill will junk it. Question is, is the new 2800h any good? I am realizing that these have become commodity products that we have to replace every 2-3 years, so no point spending huge money. The 2800h is approx. 1 lac, so was thinking just get that and plan to change every 2-3 years. The quality of these is abysmal, the top cover of the 3700h flexes with a little bit of pressure.
Cheers,
Sid
I opened it up, there are 3 fuses visible without dismantling the top boards, all of them are functional with continuity tester. So not sure what the issue is. Anyways will give it to my dealer next week and await his diagnosis. Meanwhile I am stuck over the week end, where I had lined up 2-3 movies, especially since my nephew and niece are visiting, and now they can't watch . I am realizing now, better to keep 2 receivers on hand for such situations. Planning that going forward. Looking at keeping a 1800h type (or some other inexpensive option) available for such type of situations.Don't change AVR if possible, Sid. Could be just fuse in the primary or secondary supply.
My friend also had similar issue with his 2400 2 years back and for 6k the power supply board alone was replaced and it’s working fine till date.I opened it up, there are 3 fuses visible without dismantling the top boards, all of them are functional with continuity tester. Mine A1500X also gone 2 years ago but am playing it without bluetooth & wifi...... New module they charge for 12k plus GST.My bluetooth wifi lan module for denonx2400 had gone kaput, profx asking 15k for it , any better option.
Can you see standby LED light properly? Sometimes ribbin cable connecting front panala to main board doesn't carry signal and it won't start. My 3 year old denon 3700h is not powering on at all, all of a sudden.
Thanks Spiro - even the standby light does not come on. Receiver is completely dead. I suspect power board or some other fuse in the power supply that I cannot access. Will be giving to my dealer service tomorrow, hopefully they can fix it. I have mostly decided on a 2800h if they cannot fix. My plan is it will last 3 years hopefully, and then I can upgrade again to whatever is available at that point. Can you see standby LED light properly? Check remote.

I am having the same opinion as you. The manufacturers are thinking if the phone worth ₹1L can be changed after every 3 years then why not their AVRs? Hence to keep their production line moving and cash register running, they have adopted this strategy. Are the current AVR s less robust than AVR s manufactured 20 years ago? I have a distinct impression that electronics used to last longer and was built stronger , earlier? Or am I mistaken
