DIY Enclosure/Cabinet for PowerAmp & PreAmp

Just a quick question for folks planning to add a phono stage into the B1 cabinet - how are you planning to handle the connection for the ground wire from the TT? Should we have another hole drilled into the back of the cabinet and some kind of screw (?? - don't know what this should be called) fixed to this hole for the ground connection?

Would apprecite inputs from the experts.

Thanks,
APK

You will need another hole at the back panel for Phono ground. You can use a Banana binding post for this 1 Pair Amplifier Terminal Binding Post Banana Plug - Sell Banana Speaker Connector on Made-in-China.com This should be insulated from chassis.

@jaybe, could you let us know what size screw we should get for the knobs? Headless screws seem to be a bit tough to locate, so I thought I'll start scouting for the required size right away.

I kind of imagined the screws would be part of the knobs delivery. :) It would actually be very helpful if the screws be also provided with knobs if possible as part of the GB. If above works then everyone would be on the same page right away..

Thanks!

Are isolation washers necessary for the RCA jacks? I did not use it since it was not in the kit.:ohyeah: Call me lazy but I think the acrylic panel is fairly non conductive?

Wondering why nobody is briefing on the progress of their build?
I almost completed mine, PS and source selector are working fine; tonight I am firing it up. :yahoo:

There was a problem in mounting the rear panel. It could not be put it place without bending the the crimps of the power socket at 90 as there is barely any space between the panel and the rcore. Next time I guess we need to punch the transformer holes little away from rear panel. Just a suggestion.

And one query, is that ground points of selector, B1, Input and output RCAs all can be connected to the same ground of PS?

Congrats! Yes make single wire common ground for all RCAs, another wire from source selector and third Wire from B1 connect to PS ground. Ground point from source selectors is not in signal path so it could be tucked away to nearest available ground.

And :ohyeah: we want PICs.

B1 already has grounding pad on corner holes. If you are using metal standoffs for B1,then you will not need separate grounding for B1.
As Om said we love to see pics.Kindly post few pics on B1 thread.

Sachin

I have also noticed this issue after getting the R-Core in hand. Moving the transformer an inch towards the front side will enough space for the power socket.

I thought we already discussed this earlier here - space for r core body length 25mm from its mounting hole plus space for IEC socket.

To whom do I make the payment for the knobs and how much?
Let me know.

Bibin,

I have shifted to a new house. Let me know before you ship. Also I need to pay you the balance amount.

Knobs update: Jayant has been busy lately but will provide an update on the knobs in a couple of days.

Hi Guys !

My apologies for some delay on my part.

We have finalized the drawing and samples with the mark that is desired on the face. After a couple of samples, we settled on a circular indentation on the face 180 degrees to the Grub Screw location. Any other kind of mark appears to be shabby.

Once you all approve it, we can start making the Knobs !

Coming to your specific questions:

The Grub Screw needed is M4 x 10 mm.

We don't handle any metals. So it was clear from the beginning that the Grub Screw will not be supplied by us. However, if you find it easier to get one with the Knob, I may try.

Cheers!

Jayant

Thanks Jayant. Knobs with the mark look good to me.

GB participants, your opinion is solicited.

And Jayant, if you could try to arrange for the grub screws too, we would be grateful. It would save us all some searching.
