Updating on a few TV serials that I have been watching as well as notifying about a few TV serials that have returned...
Person of Interest (TV Series 2011 ) - IMDb - Returns for season 4 and while it is still too early to say how the season will shape up, the story arc does look interesting as there is a new top dog in town (a.k.a. artificial intelligence). Season 4 starts off a couple of months after the ending of season 3 and everybody is now holding a regular job and staying hidden. The first episode mainly deals with bringing back the team and of course saving innocent lives.
Intelligence (TV Series 2014) - IMDb - It has been cancelled, however worth a watch for Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost). Decently enough entertaining fare about a super soldier (Delta Force) who has a chip implanted in his brain that lets him be wirelessly connected at all times to the Internet, the telephone, satellite, etc. The series mainly deals with taking on enemies of the United States and working as a 3rd front of the cyber division in addition to the FBI and the CIA. Good, but not great.
Ray Donovan (TV Series 2013 ) - IMDb - Only one more episode for the season 2 finale, but it has definitely been a good ride so far. Standout performances from both Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight ably and well supported by an ensemble cast. Ray continues to be a fixer for the rich and famous in Hollywood while continuing to have family problems with his estranged father, brothers, and even his wife and kids. Ray Donovan is definitely recommended.
Scandal (TV Series 2012 ) - IMDb - Season 4 has started and while it's too early to say how things will shape up, Scandal however has been one of the best dramas on the small screen for a while. Definitely looking forward to this season too.
Sleepy Hollow (TV Series 2013 ) - IMDb - Season 2 has started with the promise of more mystery and intrigue that dates back to the preindependence era of the United States of America. Definitely a fun series, and the chemistry between the lead actors Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie is spot on. One does wish for more of the pretty redhead Katia Winter though, but nonetheless a very entertaining series that is definitely recommended.
The Blacklist (TV Series 2013 ) - IMDb - All said and done I'm glad James Spader is back... I kind of missed him. Yes, it's not the best, or the most suspenseful or intriguing series ever, but it is definitely entertaining especially for James Spader. Season 2 picks up 2 months after the season 1 finale and the first episode jumps right into getting on with the list of catching the bad guys i.e. The Blacklist. This will definitely be one of the TV series that I look most forward to especially for Mr. Spader.
Now for a few new serials that I have started
How to Get Away with Murder (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - A new television series from Shonda Rhimes (the creator of Scandal and Grey's Anatomy) and the first episode has definitely been on the spot for the money. Viola Davis plays an attorney/law professor who helps the people she is defending to get away with murder and teaching a group of law students to master the same. While it is too early to tell, it is definitely shaping up to be an excellent crime drama by the looks of it. I do plan to stick with it for a few episodes before I decide either way, but based on how well Scandal has shaped up I definitely have good expectations from this one too.
Scorpion (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Episode 1 was okay, though not spectacularly great for a serial about a team of geniuses. Basically, everything just falls into place in the very 1st episode and that is asking for a stretch of the imagination. That said, it was entertaining fare and an adrenaline rush, and definitely what the doctor ordered for an evening of entertainment. I definitely plan to stick with it if anything for the reason that it's high on entertainment, the same as The Blacklist. The 1st episode showcases how a group of geniuses save 56 airplanes from crashing down after a software glitch at LAX. It has a little bit of everything like airplanes, computers, nerds, explosions, dumb government agents, geniuses who can think, act, and come up with a plan faster than you can say coffee, good pretty faces, a pretty waitress with a young son who is also a genius and yes also a fast Ferrari. I definitely look forward to more fun that does not require too much thinking as the series progresses.
Legends (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Definitely an interesting premise about undercover agents and the roles/aliases they play while undercover on the job. Sean Bean plays an undercover FBI agent who has several Legends (FBI lingo for the identity you take on while undercover) who finds the line between reality and illusion blurring for himself, when he cannot distinguish reality or his real identity from the Legends he plays. As expected, our hero has no time for the office shrink who might be able to help him identify and keep his reality/sanity. An okay series, honestly it's more of the same i.e. the FBI fighting the bad guys and the terrorists, but definitely made better because of Sean Bean and his acting. Sean does a terrific job playing the different Legends and slipping into different characters with ease, in terms of the accent, the body language, the disguise, etc. Perhaps the makers should focus on this instead of sidetracking with deeper personal mysteries of Sean Bean as the Legends and the stories revolving around them are entertainment enough.
Forever (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Very interesting premise about a man who is 200 years old, immortal and working in New York City and trying to identify the curse/blessing that prevents him from dying while working as a medical examiner. I am only into the 1st episode, but things definitely do look interesting and Ioan Gruffudd does fit in very nicely as the immortal Dr. Morgan.
