Fans of Television Series

Very good. Lots to like about it in fact... characters like Sawyer, Locke and Ben (my top picks) and then Kate, Sayid, and Jack... and oh wait till the monsters come calling and fear begins to grip the stranded travellers. Add to that humans will be humans with their petty problems, selfishness, and other emotions and then the mystery the island/jungle holds... what's not to like about it.

One of the best serials ever in the thriller/mystery genres and highly recommended.
Thanks,
Me and my wife have watched only the pilot. She is not convinced yet. I told her that it comes recommended by HiFi vision !
Another point, there are two parts of the pilot episode right? Is the second pilot an alternative one? Or is it the continuation of first pilot?

PS. You mentioned one spoiler # monsters. Please don't post spoilers [emoji85] [emoji86]

Me and my wife

Lucky man :clapping::clapping:

Pilot 2 is just continuation, it is a general trend in many US serials that the opening episode (and in some cases the closing episode is of double the duration of a single episode.

Don't worry, no spoilers have been revealed.

Enjoy the series.

Shameless (TV Series 2011 ) - IMDb - Went in with huge expectations based on the IMDB rating, but its not for me. Too dark, too much about people and their problems.

My wife though is enjoying it very much, is into the 4th Season and in under a week. Hilarious according to her... and I get its funny having seen the first 2 episodes, but at the same time its too dark and way too realistic for my liking.

Maybe I like my escapism too much...

Started watching

Forever

This is one nice series. And we will be glued till the end of episode. Nice plots too.

The female detective may not be upto mark at sometimes, but still good.

I started the same but the British (original one), and even I did not like it, though for different reasons. British accent and culture is hard to digest, so is British humour, I rarely like British TV series. The only ones I remember are "Life on Mars", "Misfits" and "Survivors". Misfits and survivors, I must say were ultimate and I do recommend. Apart from that, most of the british TV series I have started I have lost interest pretty soon.

Recently, after finishing 3rd season of switched at birth, I started a typical family TV series called Parenthood ... have seen like 5 episodes and up untill now it has made me stick to it, specally coz I am a parent as well. Plot is what the title says, but they have made it interesting ..... ....... so family people might enjoy it and can give it a shot. Will report more as I proceed ....

Now for a few new serials that I have started

How to Get Away with Murder (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - A new television series from Shonda Rhimes (the creator of Scandal and Grey's Anatomy) and the first episode has definitely been on the spot for the money. Viola Davis plays an attorney/law professor who helps the people she is defending to get away with murder and teaching a group of law students to master the same. While it is too early to tell, it is definitely shaping up to be an excellent crime drama by the looks of it. I do plan to stick with it for a few episodes before I decide either way, but based on how well Scandal has shaped up I definitely have good expectations from this one too.

Scorpion (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Episode 1 was okay, though not spectacularly great for a serial about a team of geniuses. Basically, everything just falls into place in the very 1st episode and that is asking for a stretch of the imagination. That said, it was entertaining fare and an adrenaline rush, and definitely what the doctor ordered for an evening of entertainment. I definitely plan to stick with it if anything for the reason that it's high on entertainment, the same as The Blacklist. The 1st episode showcases how a group of geniuses save 56 airplanes from crashing down after a software glitch at LAX. It has a little bit of everything like airplanes, computers, nerds, explosions, dumb government agents, geniuses who can think, act, and come up with a plan faster than you can say coffee, good pretty faces, a pretty waitress with a young son who is also a genius and yes also a fast Ferrari. I definitely look forward to more fun that does not require too much thinking as the series progresses.

Legends (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Definitely an interesting premise about undercover agents and the roles/aliases they play while undercover on the job. Sean Bean plays an undercover FBI agent who has several Legends (FBI lingo for the identity you take on while undercover) who finds the line between reality and illusion blurring for himself, when he cannot distinguish reality or his real identity from the Legends he plays. As expected, our hero has no time for the office shrink who might be able to help him identify and keep his reality/sanity. An okay series, honestly it's more of the same i.e. the FBI fighting the bad guys and the terrorists, but definitely made better because of Sean Bean and his acting. Sean does a terrific job playing the different Legends and slipping into different characters with ease, in terms of the accent, the body language, the disguise, etc. Perhaps the makers should focus on this instead of sidetracking with deeper personal mysteries of Sean Bean as the Legends and the stories revolving around them are entertainment enough.

Forever (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Very interesting premise about a man who is 200 years old, immortal and working in New York City and trying to identify the curse/blessing that prevents him from dying while working as a medical examiner. I am only into the 1st episode, but things definitely do look interesting and Ioan Gruffudd does fit in very nicely as the immortal Dr. Morgan.

An update after watching a few episodes or an entire season as in the case of Legends...

How to Get Away with Murder stays strong and is a really impressive. Lots of pretty young leads and well enacted court sequences maintain the tempo and the main murder keeps you guessing about what has transpired, the serial jumps back and forth from flashbacks to the present. Definitely recommend it and I believe it has already been picked up for the 2nd season.

Scorpion is entertaining fare and even fun as long as you don't get too involved or even begin to think on the things that are being shown especially with all the geniuses on display. Performances are okay, nothing exceptional and the story arc is limited to short one-hour episodes, but on the whole entertaining fare thanks to fast paced action and pretty faces.

Legends has played out its Season 1 and it remains to be seen whether it will be back for Season 2 or not. It had its moments, but definitely lost its way in the middle which probably accounts for the low ratings. However, Sean Bean has come up with an excellent performance playing various characters and aliases and I for one will definitely be watching Season 2 should it return. The series has got potential, especially based on the initial premise, hopefully it can be capitalised on instead of turning into another mindless action/thriller serial.

Forever, is definitely the pick for me, continues to impress and entertain while unravelling itself as a mystery that you have to participate in and enjoy the journey. Simply put, it's a teaser and nothing much is shown other than the occasional peeks into the mystery of Ioan Gruffudd, the main lead who cannot die. Ioan Gruffudd really performs very well and digs deep into the character of Henry Morgan and is ably supported by both Alana De La Garza and Judd Hirsch. The murders and how they are solved are very reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, though that should not detract from Forever in any way. One of the best new serials on TV that hopefully does not get cancelled and will continue to entertain us for a long time to come. I highly recommend it especially for Ioan Gruffudd who is just about perfect as Dr. Henry Morgan.

Some more new serials that I have started lately

Gotham (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Another new take on the Batman story, though the version recounted in Gotham is not exactly in line with the Batman mythology especially of the comics. In fact in Gotham Batman is still a young boy and it is James Gordon a.k.a. Commissioner Gordon who is the main protagonist. Unfortunately though Gotham tends to make Gordon the hero he is not, at least not in the comics, though one needs to wait and see what direction Gotham ultimately takes. Coming to the series itself, it is highly entertaining and sets a very high standard from the very outset. That is not a bad thing in and of itself, though it remains to be seen if and when Gotham will come down. Truth be told, that has not happened yet and Gotham has maintained a uniformly high arc in terms of storytelling, performances, ambience, etc. and tells the story of a dark Gotham very well indeed. I'm not sure how long they can maintain the tempo, or how many liberties they can continue to take with the Batman story arc, but for now Gotham is indeed one of the best crime dramas on TV.

Special mention for the lead players Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue and a very spirited performance from Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney.

The Mysteries of Laura (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Absolutely disappointing fare and one I probably shouldn't even be venturing into, nonetheless I was tempted to watch the first couple of episodes though it did not last and I gave up 15 minutes into the 2nd episode. The problem is with the lead Debra Messing who doesn't measure up, she never did as a heroine in Hollywood and now falls flat trying to play a single mother who has to juggle between her job and kids and solve crime. Terrible indeed, do stay away.

PS - It seems that Demi Moore was considered for the lead and that might have worked with better production values, Debra Messing however is a disaster.

The Flash (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - A spin-off from the successful Arrow, and entertaining fare that stands on its own. The story is about a forensic expert who gets struck by lightning and develops superpowers that help him to be fast, and I mean very fast to the tune of 300 mph and more, hence The Flash because everything is such a blur and nobody can see anything. Good entertainment, decent action and lots of pretty faces.

Jane the Virgin (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - The story is about a virgin who gets artificially inseminated and has to go ahead with the unplanned pregnancy because of various mitigating factors. Early days, but it is definitely entertaining and very different to everything else on TV right now. Gina Rodriguez as the main protagonist Jane does a very good job, but the rest of the cast is a bit of a hit and miss. Nonetheless, a very interesting premise about having to birth the child of another man, especially when you are a virgin does set things up very nicely for a storyline that can be entirely its own. Early days still, though I will definitely be watching. Good stuff though as things stand right now.

Constantine (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - I'm not sure what's up with serial makers who are hellbent on remaking comics as TV series, but at the same time don't want to stay true to the comics themselves. John Constantine is a bad ass demon hunter who also is dying from lung cancer and has reserved a place for himself in hell, at least that's the comic book version. The TV version though takes a somewhat comical approach, with the hero not exactly smoking all the time and definitely not suffering from terminal lung cancer. A more true to the roots Constantine would be dark, grim and definitely scary all probably not suitable for prime-time TV, but the more fun Constantine does not exactly disappoint either. An okay beginning, though one wishes for the brothers from Supernatural to show up, just have to wait and see how Constantine holds up. For now, I'm going to continue watching.

Stalker (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Started with somewhat of a controversy and a lot of bad press because of the horrific crimes committed against women in the very 1st pilot episode. I however did not let the negative reviews deter me and from the few episodes I have seen I definitely like it. The series itself is okay and reasonably entertaining fare, however being a fan of Dylan McDermott I can definitely see myself enjoying it as long as it continues in the same vein. Maggie Q too holds her own in a somewhat serious role and performance. Entertaining fare, just don't put too much thought into it, simply kick back your shoes and enjoy a series solely dedicated to the stalker genre, a first on TV.

Just have finished watching first 2 season of "The Killing" and its damn good in my sense. Its a multiplot suspense thriller spanning to two full seasons(13 episodes each). A must watch for me.

Sherlock (TV Series 2010 ) - IMDb - Excellent in every aspect. Benedict Cumberbatch is spot on as Sherlock Holmes, and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson is a perfect foil.

This is a modern interpretation so the stories don't follow the books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but the setting, the characters, etc. are the same.

Highly recommended, never a dull moment and highly entertaining/engaging stuff.

Personally, I'm hitting a marathon and doing everything in 3-4 days, and well worth it too. Do note, long episodes of around 90 minutes each... so watching all at one go is tough.

BLACK MIRROR ............ updating after a long time .... Though I am continueing with Parenthood which is like a family soap opera, I decided to start another series along side. Scribbling along Netflix I got this another Netflix Presentation on the home page and reading the tag line decided to give it a shot, and that has brought me back again here to post few lines. To begin with its the shortest season a TV series had that I have witnessed with only 3 episodes per season. But boy its intriguing.

It shows the very darker side of future technology how it can affect us in future. Its a sci fi but well under the realms of actual reality that can easily happen in near future, Its very dark and at time scary as well. Every episode is different, infact poles apart. The first one was nail biting. Every episode brings up a topic for thought into our future and morals as a society. A must watch .....

A word of caution, thought in second and third episode it might seems a little "not much of happening" but every detail counts, you cannot afford to take it casually. The ending make it up for all .... Thats all I want to say......

I have completed season 1st and moving on to the second........ 6.8/10 for this ...
