Two serials I've been binge watching and caught up with all seasons... good picks and definitely recommended.
Covert Affairs (TV Series 2010 ) - IMDb - Good spy series, kind of Alias, but the protagonist, Annie Walker, played wonderfully by Piper Perabo is not a super spy, she starts off as a liguist and analyst and works her way up through many missions. Initially she gets beaten down a lot and so she starts to learn self defence and fighting skills, then she freezes during a shootout and so she begins to learn advanced weaponry and shooting classes. That's one good thing about Covert Affairs, its more realistic and does not depict a superspy like Sydney Bristow. Also, a good thing I liked about Covert Affairs is they mix things up a fair bit, its not very predictable like a problem starts at the beginning of each episode and our spy solves it by the end of the episode, even if that happens they still come up with different and unique problems and missions for each episode. I'll not go too much into the story but suffice it to say, its a good ride and you get to see all the personas of Annie Walker, starting from nerd to a seasoned operative to even someone who goes dark or literally becomes dark.
Covert Affairs is a good ride, not exceptional (but then nothing else will ever be like Breaking Bad), but its good entertainment that will keep you entertained, especially over 5 seasons, and that's pretty good.
Grimm (TV Series 2011 ) - IMDb - I was in the mood for something horror and/or supernatural so I checked out Grimm and immediately fell in love with it. It started strong with various mythical evil creatures like the wolf, the witch, etc. and at the center of it our hero, a Grimm who has the ability to see these creatures for what they really are and hiding behind their human form and more importantly the only one with the ability to hunt and kill them. Additionally, the Grimm, Nick Burkhardt (played by David Giuntoli) is also a cop and he begins to see supernatural reasons behind all the crimes - killings, disappearances, etc. and must work to hunt down the evil.
One thing going for Grimm is does not lose track, it does not meander down a down different path like it happened with Supernatural or recently Person of Interest, so if you like how it starts, then there is more to come. The story arc is simple, Grimms have been hunting down evil creatures for centuries and they in turn want the Grimm gone. Put this in a modern setting and a Grimm who is also a cop and you get good entertainment and the occasional chill.
Grimm is definitely recommended if you are looking for something other than cops and robbers, legal drama or the typical crime drama on TV.
Both Covert Affairs and Grimm are recommended if you have time on hand or want to dig into something for the long haul, they are 5 and 4 seasons respectively, so a lot of stuff to catch up on.
