Fans of Television Series

The 100 OKYIEE after a long time a TV series that I can say I am hooked to. BTW Parenthood is going side by side at its usual pace. I then started a TV series called SCANDAL though I was not hooked per say but I managed to complete the first season. It was ok, it only got interested after 3,4 episodes but I could not get myself to start season 2 (may be I will, you never know).

I was missing something that will hook me actually, you know .......and reading lots of reviews on IMDB etc I decide to give The 100 a try, primarily also because its on my fav Genre, sci fi and disaster survival. Plus its on Netflix ... :D

The plot goes like this ........

Somewhere in future a nuclear war destroys the entire human race and its 97 years after that. Few thousand human beings lives in a space station called the ARC. They have their own different set of rules and regulations. 97 years after the holocaust they decide to send 100 people down to earth to see if its inhabitable again. Who do they choose, convicts and people who are either sentenced to death of have life imprisonment and ALSO who are all in their late teens and have the best chance of survival.

Once they are sent,... a whole new game of survival, politics, deception starts both on earth and on the ARC as well........... this is the crust of the story and trust me with all the inconsistencies, few uncertainties and disbeliefs this show will still keep you glued. I have seen 8 episodes and I am on the 9th and I do feel to switch on Netflix immediately after I return from office ... :) Let see how it pans and progresses, but up untill now its very interesting. Will post after I complete the first season .....

The 100 - Season 2 ....... This show started with an ok first 2-3 episodes, to pretty interesting decent 5-8 episodes to nail biting ending of first season to simply kick ass season 2. ...:D :D

I after a long time was mourning to have consumed all of the episodes for available seasons. This show made me absolutely glued to my seat from season 1 nail biting finale to season 2.

Quite a few twists and turns and even though it does have few (very few I might add) clichd moments you hardly care since the pace, and excitement never ends. SE02 has lot many more simultaneous stories going together and its very exciting to see how each one of it connects after every couple of episodes.

I will be waiting eagerly for rest of the season to come to Netflix, ..7.5/10 for this one. Definitely must watch for any sci fi, disaster survival fans

Definitely Lost. Breaking Bad is another must, but I believe you have seen it. Ditto for Game Of Thrones.

Right now I'm digging Grimm and enjoying every minute of it.

Also, in the middle of Covert Affairs and enjoying it too... a tad bit like Alias, but only better.

Another good series I caught up on recently is House Of Lies, smallish episodes of around 30 mins each, but highly entertaining and definitely recommended. Don Cheadle is amazing and well supported by Kristen Bell.

PS - Recommending based on what I'm watching and enjoying.

Downton Abbey....was in my list for some time and I started it about a month back. You can read about the synopsis in IMDB, I do not need to elaborate much on it.

Set in the early years of the 20th century it paints a picture of English aristocracy. There is something about the conformity of that society and their courteousness that I find quite alluring, I always have found so and perhaps the show has caught my imagination because of it.
The genre is drama and it will be a little stretch to say it is akin to our family drama that you get on prime time cable television, the difference between the two is that in case of Downton it is plausible and vies for a conscious accurate representation of the time.

It is intriguing to see the underlying class distinction and struggle woven in the aristocracy and how tumultuous events like the first world war affects the social paradigm. Things that we take for granted today such as equality under law and universal suffrage had to pay their dues, it is shown beautifully in the show. Where the show excels is that it does not set out with any agenda and just the times are depicted faithfully.
Like all family drama it has scandal, politics, financial upheaval, rivalry among ambitious parties and some back-stabbing as well, but Colors, Star Plus, Sony and Zee please take notice of how to tell a story!

Fully justified the plaudits it has been credited for.

Yes completed BB and GOT as well. Grimm does not entice me but HOuse of lies does, but its not available on Netflix as of now ..... so will see if its worth acquiring by "other" means .......

Let start with LOST for now I guess and see how it goes .....

BB and GoT are a must, but Lost?? I'm not too sure. Lost starts pretty well. They maintain the story arc and tension and the excitement but soon it turns out a repetitive drab, pretty much like the repetitive story arc of Scandal with the affair and all and rest all thrown in just to shake the mix. Moreover Lost kinda moves all around the place. I tried watching it but just couldn't muster any courage to go beyond season 2. Heroes I believe is another such a series. Started pretty damn good, became a cult and soon everyone you know was a superhero. Normal human beings seemed a rarity. Got repetitive and boring.

House MD is a good show, though many don't tend to like it. Elementary is another show gaining popularity. It is a US take on Sherlock Holmes.
Many ppl rave about Mad Men. Haven't seen it yet.

Yes I agree with scandal, it was ok even I could not make myself to start with season 2. Same with HEROES though with heroes I watched all seasons hoping that it will improve. Last season did redeem itself to an extent.

Hi Sam...
I have not been posting here due to my laziness :D..however as you see, I never miss this thread and any of the reviews by fellow members :)
In last 3 months, I have watched Sons of Anarchy and loved it... It's about a motorcycle club and its self-destructing members.
I started watching in October and finished it when its final season finished on 2nd December and now I am a fan of its characters and many other things about the show.

Now I have started watching Boardwalk Empire and wow...What a show...
I have been missing Mafia and its activities in life for so long and this is the show that's making up for me ;-) Totally in love with it...so far only 7 episodes of 1st season, I don't think I am gonna touch anything else till it finishes totally. This show also ended this year in its 5th season, so no waiting anymore.

If you're asking for more suggestion... you can consider watching one of my favorite Justified now, as its 6th and final season will start airing in January... I am certain you'll love this show just because of its dialogues. Both the protagonist (Raylan Givens) and antagonist (Boyd Crowder) are amazing.. I am quite a fan of Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins)...
His small role of Transvestite in 'Sons of Anarchy' was awesome :)

As far as my weekly watch are concerned..I have been watching 'The Good Wife' 6th season and 'Homeland' season 4... The Good Wife never disappoints & is on a break after 10 episodes this season and Homeland season 4 has overcome my disappointment after its not so good season 3.

House of Lies is good, I really like it. I do have Amazon Prime so that's available there, but that's another service you have to pay for and not much use for free shipping when out of the US.

You might want to check out Grimm... I definitely like it to the extent I've caught up till the latest ongoing season 4. Its better than most supernatural series, I've given up on Supernatural myself.

I'm looking forward to catching up with Marco Polo soon... probably this weekend. I'm looking forward to watching it in 4K.

If you like Sons of Anarchy, watch The Shield(Walton Goggins has a huge role in this)...both shows are written by Kurt Sutter who plays Otto in SOA. I'm a huge fan of both shows and have watched each multiple times.

Being a big mafia addict myself, apart from Boardwalk empire I can suggest The Sopranos, Brotherhood, The Black Donnellys and Crime Story.

^^ How much do you pay for 4K Subscription... ?

Pricing depends on SD, HD or UHD (4K) content as well as the total number of devices you can stream on simultaneously. It ranges from $7 to $12 per month, but I'm on the old plan so I got locked in at $8.99 for UHD too for 2 years and I get to stream on 2 devices at the same time.

PS - Amazon is cheaper as you get free shipping too, but unfortunately not all content is available on it.

Yes I know, I have been a member of Netflix for the past year and an extensive user. We have a club of 4 members and share cost ....

http://www.hifivision.com/general-l...-amazing-service-can-accessed-india-well.html

Thats the reason I specifically asked for 4K plan price just to see how "extra" is it over FHD plan, incase in future I do decide to go for a UHD TV ..... :)

That's good, and once you are used to it there is no going back. I too got hooked while in the US.

I share Amazon Prime that way. My SIL uses it for delivery and general shopping and sometimes streaming on TV. I use the shipping when I'm in US (never tried large items shipping to India), but I do access Amazon Prime Video even here.

I'd highly recommend an AC router (802.11ac wifi) for wireless streaming. I stream without any issues over 2300 sft wirelessly and to multiple devices like Smart TV, smartphones, tablets, etc.

That is why I also said in another thread that it is indeed viable to get a 4k tv . The cable industry in India and US might drag its feet but internet providers are going to move really fast. And do consider that Vizio in the US is already offering 4k TVs with full array led backlighting at very very good prices $1000 upwards. That means they are able to do this price while making a profit and others will also follow suit soon enough.

If you want to get a real in depth feel of small town America and how football crazy it is then Friday Night Lights might appeal to you. It is on Netflix. The story line may not sound like much but my wife and I are hooked (and our usual diet is the standard crime, thriller stuff). The character development is extraordinary. But more than anything, it is a coming of age TV series and most of the focus is on a bunch of 15-17 year olds and how quickly they need to grow up. And it is fascinating how different they grow up from us.

Just checked my plan details and looks like we are already paying for UHD content under our current plan, so thats cool I guess all one need is a fast broadband connection and compatible UHD TV ... :)

Possible, especially if you were in subscription when they increased the prices. The old rates apply till 2016.

Really fast is not needed, I have a 50 mbps ISP but it never goes beyond 20-25 mbps. I don't have a 4K TV though, so I use it on my brother's TV occasionally.
