Fans of Television Series

Z Nation (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Yup, another zombie series. Actually its bad, so bad in fact that it's good. Really... think of it as a bad B movie (or in this case TV series) that's actually entertaining. They didn't really try to make it good... or even try to spend a lot of money on it. From the get go its intention is to be a B movie (TV series) and as such that reflects in everything from performances, to production values, to set details, to even bad CGI, etc. Because of this its the exact opposite of say The Walking Dead and achieves entertainment without the emotional factor... no more feeling bad for those who die, or empathizing with those alive. Its pure fun that does not tax your brain too much.

Its a total of 13 episodes that took me 3 days to catch up on. As a TV show it has a little bit of everything and yes I mean everything. You have regular bad guys like drunks and thieves, but because this is a zombie series there is a world experiencing the zombie apocalypse, and you also find cults (religious, separatist and even feminist), a twister (yes an actual twister like in the movie), a baby zombie (an actual infant zombie), cannibals, a nuclear power plant, a zombie bear (yeah), and even a Zunami (a zombie tsunami... and yes its really a zombie tsunami). Throw in the fact that nothing is predictable, not even the storyline, folks come and go, characters die, and new characters are introduced... so there is mayhem at every turn. All of which makes for an entertaining series, even if its a bad one at that. In an age when good movies or serials don't entertain, it sure is a lot of fun to see a really bad B series entertain so much.

Give it a go, just don't think too much... simply enjoy the zombie ride. I for one look forward to season 2 coming this year.

wowow .... this is how I reviewed Z Nation a few pages back ...

Z Nation - Season 1 ... Just finished the last episode, what a fracking fun zombie show this was ....... Please do not compare it with TWD, though I agree comparisons are inevitable but these two shows which are miles/poles apart, the only thing common is zombies and the resemblance ends there.

While TWD is too serious, too slow and too philosophical at times Z Nation is fast, Action and pure old school fun. No soul searching here, just good old classic zombie action . It does not take it too seriously but is serious enough to root for the characters. There is a mission a big picture unlike TWD where you just aimlessly wander, with stick together approach with a no long term agenda. Z Nation we have an objective which acts as the backbone of the season and then each episode has its own mini story in itself which brings nice challenges for our group to overcome.

Performance are sometime a bit stiff but not often but the pace makes it for all. Effects thankfully are spot on and so it the zombie make-up (though yes not as good as TWD)

There is another thing, no character is central, its not a spoiler but just when you will start thinking this character is going to the protagonist of the TV series think again. Anyone can die, I liked this, If you are a Zombie genre fan like I am this will be a joy ride ..... dont miss ...... 6.8/10

The Americans (Season 3) is airing now (4 episodes already).
Vikings (Season 3) Started airing yesterday.
House of Cards (Season 3) will be available on Feb 27th.
The Blacklist (Season 2) has started airing again (3 episodes already) after the mid season break.

February is a good month! :)

A bit different from the usual, but something that probably will go down well with the boozehounds. A wee drop or three will help too :licklips:

That said the show appears to have quite favorable reviews and the few of the series I've watched so far have been rather good.

Booze Traveler (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb

Reminds me of Thirsty Traveller from TLC, good series.

The Americans (Season 3) is airing now (4 episodes already).
Vikings (Season 3) Started airing yesterday.

Up to date on all of them other than The Americans, been meaning to start on that, waiting for a couple of weeks free time so I can do both the seasons at a stretch.

State of Affairs (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Done with season 1. An ok entertainer, just don't expect Homeland or crazy Carrie. Katherine Heigl is an able performer and does what's required, but its Alfre Woodard who holds sway for the most part.

Some amount of suspense will keep you going, but for the most part its about American rhetoric about being the "leader of the free world" never mind how many innocent people they actually kill while trying to keep that freedom. However, it does pick up quite well towards the end and does get thrilling for the last 4-5 episodes when the suicide bombers start going off and from there on its a fast gallop to the finish line.

Decent start and might get interesting if its renewed for season 2.

Stalker, anyone? Its entertaining..

Stalker (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Not exactly clear, but season 1 seems to be done. Its a take on the stalker genre, but some of the cases are actually plain kidnaping, murder, etc. It seems even looking at anyone twice might get you labeled a stalker in the US... a crime I'm pretty sure every hot blooded teenage boy is guilty of.

That said, I've been a fan of Dylan McDermott since The Practice, Maggie Q hogs the limelight majorly after Nikita and Stalker is pretty entertaining fare... albeit a tad bit predictable in how the cases are solved. Good entertainment, treads a different path from the usual cop or CSI serial and also how a cop can actually be stalked and needs protection too. Good entertainment, not too much drama or soap opera and for many folks that's exactly what the entertainment doctor ordered.

Gentlemen, I just finished watching binge-watching Bosch. It is an Amazon original and based on Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch detective books.

I would highly recommend it. Very very good acting, dark, great cinematography, very gritty.

I also have a really interesting question: In the TV series, Harry Bosch has a very interesting vintage looking vinyl audio setup. There's also some jazz that he plays in some of the episodes. I tried very hard to figure out what it was but could only make out some very interesting looking floorstanders, a Marantz (?) turntable, a tube amp (possibly McIntosh), and a vintage receiver.

I could try and get a screenshot of the speakers, but am really intrigued. They were floorstanders, but had a very different design. It was a slightly pyramidical cabinet but only the top part seemed to be the receiver.

Fortitude (TV Series 2015 ) - IMDb - Set in a remote location, Fortitude, a small town that witnesses a brutal murder that sparks off an investigation. Starts off slow, and works on trying to establish the characters, though there are too many of them. The suspense though is the main element in trying to establish the killer. Decent entertainer, though can be extremely slow paced and hence not to everybody's liking. Done 4 episodes and looking good, will be back with a mini review after more episodes.

Better Call Saul (TV Series 2015 ) - IMDb - Kind of a prequel to Breaking Bad and puts everybody's favorite lawyer Saul Goodman in the main protagonist's role. Done with 3 episodes and its pure fun, striking similarity to BB in many regards, but no Walter White. Early days, but this one looks to be a keeper, the first episode is slow (same as with BB), but towards the end picks up and is pure fun in the 2nd one even bringing one of BB's best/craziest villains Tuco (still the same batshit crazy, but pure evil and fun). Early days, but its shaping up very well and things should only get better/crazier with Saul (Jimmy) breaking bad in this series. I'd recommend catching up on BB first though BCS stands on its own even without introduction to BB and its characters.

May I ask where did you manage to get hold of Better call saul ..?

AMC lets you watch their shows online (US IP needed) for a few days. All 3 episodes are available online.

PS - Google Roku private channels. Setup DVR for Roku and you are all set for everything including live sports and shows you can catch in your time.

Can you share the link where AMC lets you do that ..... US IP should not be a problem as I am using the DNS service .... to access Netflix ...

Bosch (TV Series 2014 ) - IMDb - Binge watched it over 2 days and totally worth it. Titus Welliver's selection as the protagonist is untypical (his last outing was as the bad guy in Transformers) and also works hugely in favor of the show. Coming as it does from Amazon Studios it also bodes well for television (actually internet streaming) seeing most of the big studios have "procedural & predictable" shows.

Nothing new about the story itself, headstrong cop catches the bad guys, always. That said Harry Bosch is a complex character battling his own inner demons that stem from the time he was abused as a child. Add to that everybody including his superiors and colleagues have an axe to grind with him and even want him gone. Throw in a serial killer who wants to play a game of cat and mouse with Harry Bosch and you have a TV show that delivers big in the cop/thriller genre in a long, long time.

Excellent performances all around, amazing cinematography, gripping storyline that does not deviate too much, etc. make Bosch the must watch TV show this season. Highly recommended.

I have to go back couple of decades.
1) 1970s: Mind Your Language, Mork and Mindy, Benson
2) 1980s: Cheers, Silver Spoons, Mr. Belvedere, The Cosby Show
3) 1990s: Seinfeld, Melrose Place, Frasier, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Profiler, The Practice
4) 2000s and 2010s: 8 simple rules, Boston Legal, The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, Castle, Lie to me, Outsourced

I view them over and over again.

outsourced looks interesting and its available on HULU. I think I am gonna give it a try ... will report after the first episode ....

Did you notice his audio system too? It was really bugging me, until some other FMs helped identify the system components.

Speakers: Ohm Walsh
Tuner/preamp: Mac MX110
Power amp: Mcintosh 240
TT: Marantz 6300
