LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

Have been reading through the threads here related to V20,C550 and the PK550 and have finally decided on getting the 50PK550. Waiting for a dealer quote now.

One of things that I noticed, during a demo at Croma, the tv was not able to load the contents from a USB reader with SDHC(8GB) card. Not much of an issue for me though, since I am going to use a WDTV Live.

I managed to read most of the posts of this good marathon thread, so hopefully there should be not be any broken expectations.

Yup 61K is good price...and Shaiju and I got talking about whats next :)...I am picking the AC Ryan POHD.. to take viewing to different level and some good use of this TV.

@VivekM - great enthu man,, keep it up....use the break in slides...initial days and rather even now (after 3 months) i get TIR....on continuous viewing ...which disappears on its own...

The latest firmware version is 3.28

I got myself a cheap Micca HD player for $50. Decent nuff, though it does choke on some files. Noticed that color saturation of Movies was a lot better than the sets internal media player.

Any response from LG?

Well the guy [who's known to some of you :)] gave me a call.. gave me 2 options. Acknowledged that it a mfgn defect, and asked me if they have my permission, they can try to fix the problem in my house only, or give me a replacement (which will probably take some time, considering the perennial shortage of this set). Decided to go a little soft on them (sister company after all) , and asked them to try fixing the prob. SO he will come this evening, to do that as well as upgrade the firmware and rectify the green pixel problems. Lets see

Well... does tat mean they are going to open the panel and remove the extra piece? Make sure they don leave any dust specks while assembling the panel back into shape.

63k is sofar the best price we heard in bglr.. Please let us know if you find it less elsewhere in your hunt . Happy to join you in the group buy program :clapping:

Friends,

Finally, booked one 50 PK 550 (for self) and one 42 PJ650 (for my brother in law) at LG Shoppe - Kormangla PK550 came for 63490/- and PJ650 for 40490/-.

I have told the sales person there not to deliver the display piece and he assured me that he would not. To assure he also showed me his stock register and showed me how many pieces were left, and the stock register read only 1 piece in stock. Following which he said they currently have only 2 pieces one in the godown and the other on display. In this case the register should have read 2 pieces in stock. Now I am worried.. I somehow have a feeling that they are gonna deliver me the display piece. However I have made a note of the serial number which was behind the display piece which read as SL No. 008LPHT000702 (noted this number from the reflection on the mirror that was behind the TV so not sure if it is correct as it was reversed but im sure the last 3 digits "702") Kindly advise if every unit comes with an exclusive SL No. so that i can ensure that they don't deliver the display piece. Waiting for them to deliver, probably to happen on Wednesday.

Well for the PJ650, doubt we will not have this problem as they did not have this model in stock and said will take addnl 2 days to deliver as they have to rec the stock.

Meanwhile can i have some conact details of any of the owners of PK 550 in Bangalore of elsewhere in India so that I can discuss the Do's and Dont's before the instaillations. Tried reading the posts, as it runs to 84 pages I'm totally confused and also unable to understand the terminology's. Look fwd to hear.

Have a great day.

Speak to Fairdeal electornics, SV Road, Vile Parle (W), he had quoted me 59K for PK550 two weeks back. Might offer you a better deal.

15 or more days of waiting is a bummer. Croma had it in stock last weekend, but the price was 67k.
Still waiting to hear from my dealer.

By any chance do you have their contact number?

Hey Congrats for the purchase :clapping:
The SL no is unique. So no worries.
Check your PM for my contacts.

SN is unique and it was wise thing to do.
You can make out whether the PDP is a fresh one by observing the package. I had posted in detail about the original package some time back. Briefly,
1. There will be large staples on the top of the box on either edges. If they are missing, the TV was at-least unpacked once.
2. The box will be wound by three white stripes. Anything less again may be a hint of unpacking.
3. The TV itself will be covered in a plastic wrap which is sealed by a highly adhesive sticker. If it was opened before, the plastic would have torn near the sticker.

Note that a previously opened box need not imply it has been used. But likely.
So do instruct your dealer NOT to test in their store before delivery. Testing/warranty stamping is the reason many dealers give if enquired about a opened box.

All the best. Njoy the beauty.

No mate, i had just walked in to check, he started with 60+ so i stated that i had a quote of 57, he immediately called up their other outlet in town and then some senior sales chap at LG. Post his discussion he said his final quote is 59K so i walked away.

Chap seemed fairly reasonable hence would suggest you to talk to him as well before deciding upon the dealer. In mumbai it is always advisable to buy from single / small shop multibranded guys who will get you the set for minimal margin. The bigges like Vijay, Sony Mony, kohinoor, Croma, e-zone etc are juts rip offs....never ever buy anything from them.

The Dude assures me he is an expert and I needn't worry. He said a replacement would take another month. PKs are in really short supply.

OK Final Update...set fixed. actually the lining which surrounds the bezel had come off and was visible behind the glass..they fixed it without any hullabaloo. Green dithering was as it is not a huge issue with my batch (Firmware 3.28) and the person advised against tinkering with the sub brightness levels. Was having a general discussion abt the PK, and got to know that Shaiju and Viveknath was in LG's hall of fame ( or infamy ;) ) Mr. S did mention my dithering was nowhere comparable to the extreme problem faced by Vivek. Also changed warranty to start from today, even though my original set was shipped on Aug 20. Guess all's well that ends well.

Hall of fame or Inface :))))) :))

Well Mr S= Sunoj...sure seems to be making the rounds..courtesy our complaints ..well my TV actually didn't face any dithering...no pixel issues like dead or stuck except the greens :) touchwood......hope S didn't see things I never could ;)...he he he or may be when I get bored of this TV, might just raise a complaint saying too much dithering -- need replacement ;)..and Sunoj knows it

Ha yes..when I say dithering...I meant the greens only. Apparently in your panel it was visible at a considerable distance before the update/fix
