Looks like S is selling my TV was at its worst till he applied the magic firmware update .. believe me .. the test I did to show him an issue was Dark knight picture -- that has a real black background and distinct visible foreground batman image....and now that green pixel shift has gone from brightness of 53 to around 70 after the sub brightness and sub contrast changes done from service remote.

Made the change after a comment (even I had the dump and have seen it around 4 times.. still managed to call it black aah haa he he)

So Vivek, that basically means that the set has lost its 17 points of brightness.....so this way they can fix the green pixel issue once and for all by reducing the sub watever values by 47... So that the issue is gone... But we will have the effective settings of -47 to 53.... This is not at all the fix

hi guys i am a newbie here in HV , i followed this site for more than weeks. i thought it would be nice to join the forum. so my question is pk550 is available only in 50 inches.or it is also available in 42 inches.

PK series is full hd and they are available only in 50" and 60" size.

Yeah Pretty much why I didnt want my sub-values to be tweaked with. Since I cant see the dots at more than 2 feet <maybe less, didnt measure exactly> at 100% brightness/contrast anyhow. No use compromising on the brightness and contrast ratio.

Now I need to upgrade to a decent HD STB to realise some potential of the OK. I currently have Airtel, but will not upgrade since they only give NGC HD and I hate that bloody company. Apart from them, any suggestions from the view point of better boquet of HD channels and smallish operator logos that doesn't screw up my plasma?

Whatever bargain you do for 50PK550 anywhere, do not deal with Adishwar. They have tie up with LG but they try to control price! They do not allow LG to offer better margin to other dealers but they themself don't pass their hefty margin to customers

And how exactly do they have the power to do that? LG isnt exactly in the same league as a local manufacturer like Santosh Electronics and Adishwar is no Circuit City/Radio Shack or even in the league of eZone/Chroma

Don't you know that Aidshwar has some kind of tie up with LG?
Some of the exclusive showroom of LG is run by Adishwar.

I am not sure if this is true. Last year I purchased LG 42" 50YR for 54K at NEXT while the Adiswar LG brand shop guys last price was 58.7K. These guys told me that they would give a gift I f I could get the TV lessthan their price. I went back with the receipt to the LG brand store, they denied it as the invoice shows the (58.7K) with 4.7K cash back.

and that is the point. These guys have tie up with LG and they assume they can offer lowest price. If they come to know that there are others offering lower than their price then they screw up LG for that.

They have nicely screwed up our group by program in Bangalore, recently.

Call received yesterday from LG HO with stockist, dealer and couple of other guys in conference. I can contact HO directly if there are any more issues. Hmm, well that's a nice restart.

Re. the settings
1) I can put across suggestion (and frustration) to Sapanarya (one who called to resolve "all" my issues)
2) Contact ChadB. Anyone willing to take the first step?

Some of you must have found picture settings on AVSF. Posting it here...

Aspect ratio: Just scan (for allowed sources else 16:9)
Contrast: 73-80 (i prefer 78)
Brightness: 51-54
Color: 48-51
Sharpness: 40-50 for SD. 45-50 for HD.
Tint: 0
Color temp: W30
Dynamic: Off
Gamma: Medium
Black level: Low
ISM orbiter: On (believe all of us are still in break-in period)

I found these settings to be very good. You can adjust anywhere between the range.

Can't wait for the new display.

Tata Sky HD up and running. :yahoo: Those HD channels are "wow!". Time to change my signature.

Are these above setting for break in period?

Nopes only after breakin period. For your first 100-150 hrs or so... keep at around 50 mark for all settings...

No mate, i had just walked in to check, he started with 60+ so i stated that i had a quote of 57, he immediately called up their other outlet in town and then some senior sales chap at LG. Post his discussion he said his final quote is 59K so i walked away.

Chap seemed fairly reasonable hence would suggest you to talk to him as well before deciding upon the dealer. In mumbai it is always advisable to buy from single / small shop multibranded guys who will get you the set for minimal margin. The bigges like Vijay, Sony Mony, kohinoor, Croma, e-zone etc are juts rip offs....never ever buy anything from them.
