LG 50PK550R Owner's Discussion Thread

Delivered on friday with COD at price of 62.8k
for HD stuff the display is really stunning.
Display was delivered in torch mode, and when I switched on first time, the PQ was amazing. Now all settings are at 48, and still it gives good picture quality. Watching HD is really wow!

Only the reflection issue which is notoriously bad. We have to use yellow dim light in night and have to use dark curtains in day time to counter this reflection. The light comes from french window which is on right hand side of the panel, hence the issue. Well, again the reflection is visible if you try to notice or in real dark scene.

Yeah This baby was designed for HD. I have been playing HD MKVs and the quality was stunning. But yesterday I got Tata Sky HD...and the PQ is vaa vaa voom!! Its jaw dropping good. Wondoer why LG doesnt aggressively promoote this model...after they sort out the kinks i.e.

They have not yet lauched that model in India officially...and probably will not do so. Sadly market dynamics means they will keep their assembly lines for LCds

Dear Friends,

Thank you all so much for all your assistance, my PK550 was delivered the same day i made the down payment i.e last Thursday 16th Sept. and the installation experts from LG came in the next day for a demo and wall mount on Friday. The experts who came in did'nt even know how to connect the AV connection from the television to the AVR 130, though im not an expert i had to assist them with the connections. I tried to ask them about break in method, color wash etc which i i have basically read on the forum and they did not know what i was talking about. So i put an end to all my questions and signed of f their slip stating that i was 100% satisfied. I complained to LG Shoppe and they said that they will arrange for another demo. Recd a call from LG staff that he would be visiting for a 2nd demo but did not turn up nor i have heard from him so far. Meanwhile recd a msg from LG customer care asking me to sms 1to 5757554 if i was dissatisfied, to which i did not respond because i know i can get expert advise from experts out here in the forum.

A special thanks to our friend Mr. Navnith another member of our forum and owner of PK550, who has been assisting me. He was also kind enough to join me when we went to purchase a stebilizer for my unit. Since Digi 100 was out of stock, the shop keeper there gave us an alternative V Guard Crystal Plus 3 amps. he also mentioned that this one was more advanced than the Digi 100.

Have set all ajustments as per Shiju's earlier posts. Have been enjoying watching couple of Divx DVDRips, but i know that im not utilizing the complete potential of the system that i have. Will look fwd for support and advise from members here who can assist me with the basic connections and to take out the full potential of the system. So far has been goo as i do not see any problems or probably i am unable to identify problems.

First Doubt
- I am unable to operate "JUST SCAN" as the cursor skips so i have selected zoom and set the cinema zoom at 16 for the break in period.
- I am unable to locate the "BLACK LEVELS" option can someone tell me where to find this.
- Planning for a HDD, pls advise if 1TB will be supported by the TV also pls let me know if i should go in ofr 2.5" or 3.5". The seller also mentioned that there are 2 types one with poer option and the other without power option (the once used for PC's and Laptops) pls advise which one should i buy.

Look fwd to hear.

2.5" HDD are the portable type and usually do not require any external power source.
3.5" HDD are referred to as external HDD and do require power source.
2.5" HDD is preferable because of the size and also because no external power supply is needed. However they are much more expensive as compared to 3.5" HDD.
BLACK LEVELS option is located in Advanced Settings in the case of LG LCDs. I'm assuming it's going to be the same in plasma.

The TV got delivered today at 10:34 IST (Am I happy? :yahoo:). So, one more name added to this group. I had been silently following this thread since the last few months. A big thanks to all for their inputs on this set.

Why I chose 50PK550?
- 50" screen Size.
- Less than 65K in price (I got it for 67K that includes the cost for an extra year of warranty from Croma - this set is way costlier in blore than pune/delhi/mumbai)
- Full HD plasma with a thin frame and more than avg PQ.

My first impression is - WOW !

I had concerns about dancing pixels and line bleed as many guys here have pointed out. My set has no such problems (touch wood :p). I hooked the TV to PS3 and Airtel SD DTH. The PQ looked decent with SD content. But hold on, from whatever I have seen till now, HD signals from PS3 blew me away. I played 720P and 1080P videos, they all looked flawless. I downloaded the dark knight teaser poster (1920X1080) that has lot of blacks on it to check the dancing pixel issue. Kicked up brightness to 100 - no dancing pixels. Zoomed the image (PS3 allows that) to a very dark portion - still no dancing pixels. The manufacturing date on the set is 10th Aug 2010. Maybe it has the latest FW.

Have few questions for fellow members:
- How do I check the firmware version?
- How do I check the usage hours?

Thanks everyone again !

A note to the moderators:
It will be great if an option is given to download the entire thread for offline viewing. avsforums has this option for threads and it is mighty helpful.

Thats good to hear...cos my set is manufactured on 10th Aug too. and though I do see dancing pixels, its only when my nose is on the glass.

Yeah I checked with couple of showrooms..everybody said they can arrange only 60" .That's very disappointing.

Congratulations on the purchase. Enjoy the TV.

To check firmware version/usagehours you need LG service remote. These information are present in service menu. If you have programmable remote, you will be able to program it with service remote functionality and access. But be very careful not to mess up with any other settings.

You can use 'Auto Pager' firefox plugin, It's awesome plugin I ever come across after adblock. You can continue reading forums and no need need to click next.

Thanks dotMac. Can you please point me to the post/thread that talks about it in detail. I will ask the LG service guy to bring the service remote.

Good one.
