LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LW6500 Owner's Thread

Re: LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LX6500 Owner's Thread

I've had my 42 LW5700 setup and have spent a little bit of time with it watching different material. Here are my initial observations. I'm no expert and this is my first HDTV, so please bear that in mind while reading this.
- Looks: This is quite subjective. I personally quite like the brushed metal strips at the top and bottom. They break the monotony of the black very well. The Matte screen has very little reflection and is a big plus.
- Overall Picture Quality (SD): I have a Tata Sky SD connection. Tata Sky SD looks much better than I'd expected based on reviews at stores. It's a little soft but there's very little blockiness/artifacts from my viewing distance of 8 - 9 feet. There's some variation across channels but it's quite watchable.
- Overall Picture Quality (HD): I've watched a couple of 720P rips of Planet Earth through USB. They look fabulous, well detailed and with fantastic colours.
- Overall Picture Quality (3D): I've downloaded and watched a blu-ray rip of Under the Sea 3D. It looks fabulous with bright and colorful images and excellent 3D effect. I haven't seen any crosstalk. I can't comment yet on resolution loss as I haven't been able to watch the same film in 2D.
- 2D->3D Conversion: I haven't been able to get this set quite right. While there is some illusion of depth, the TV can't quite keep up with the screen at all times. I see many instances of the TV interpreting the depth incorrectly. At the moment, I believe this is more of a gimmick. Perhaps with some change of settings, I'll be able to make it work.
- Clouding: There is some clouding at the 4 corners and it is noticeable when watching in the dark with a medium/high backlight setting and no local dimming. I've been able to remove it to a level where it doesn't annoy me much when watching the TV near dead center by adjusting the backlight and brightness setting and having the local dimming set to high. The Local Dimming Setting is not available when watching something through the USB input.
- Motion: I'm the sort who likes really smooth motion. I'm quite sensitive to jerky motion when panning and can see it easily when watching movies at the cinema hall. Glad to say that I haven't yet seen any judder on the LW5700 with a high de-judder setting.
- Black Level: With room lights on and local dimming on, blacks are quite good. If, however, you are interested in watching movies in the dark, this TV might not be the best option.
- Off-Angle Viewing: With a dark screen, I can see the black becoming purple as I move off-center. It's not much of a problem when viewing actual content though.
Gaming Lag: I have a ps3 and I've tried the following games: Uncharted, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm and a few game demos. I'm not a pro-gamer and I tried them all put together for only an hour but I didn't notice much of a lag. Will get to know more about this as I game more over the coming days.
Calibration: The TV has plenty of settings for calibration. I'm still in the try and see phase on the various settings posted by users on different forums. But given the extent of options available, it should theoretically be possible to get the TV to quite close to industry standards and more importantly, to your personal liking.

Will keep sharing my findings as I explore the set more. Do let me know if you have any questions which I can answer.

I frankly don't use LG apps much. Perhaps that might change once their 3d app is available for us in India.

I also don't use the premium services much, except youtube once in a while. Entering URLs or other text for search is a pain using the remote. But if you can bear that part, youtube is good. It does, however, start with an apparently random video when you launch it. The content of that random video at times might not be suitable for all kinds of audiences.

Surfing with 2mbps speed should not be a problem. The browser doesn't support flash though.

I would recommed you go with some local dealer, You might get it for 75K, that saves you 3.4K and would be good enough to buy wifi dongle and HD DTH :)

I am happy to announce that I booked 42" LG 6500 yesterday, It will get delivered tomorrow. I am also going along with Tata Sky HD+

In Andhra Pradesh today an ad came in leading news papers stating all cinema 3d tv prices slashed by Rs.10k did any one contact nearest dealer?

Got my 47LW6500 replaced recently.

There was a problem with the panel. First they tried to repair it but that didn't work.
They suggested replacing the panel, but i insisted on replacing the whole set.

It took longer than i thought( nearly a month), but happy to get a completely new set

How much is the LG 47LW6500 available in Mumbai? The lowest price I was quoted yesterday was Rs.1.12k with only the standard 4 pair of glasses that come free with the set. No magic motion remote free with the kit.

Has anyone else been able to get it cheaper? Compared to true active 3D the passive 3D of LG was su much easier on the eyes. Didnt feel any fatigue. The SD content was also a treat to watch with good PQ.

I also reviewed the Samsung series 7 - 46" priced at 1.23K after some bargaining and the PQ (both SD as wekk as HD) and looks were way ahead of the LG also with a 600hz as compared to LG which has 200hz. But the 3D viewing was a bit tiring to the eyes plus only 2 glasses free and each additional one costing bet 3.5 - 4k.

I am confused between thr LG and the Sammy. the LG I did find value for money but the cost difference between the 2 models was 11k so I can pool in the difference if required. I am now waiting for Dussera prices to kick in.

Any advice?

Don't make your purchase decision based on 3D features unless you are sure that you will watch it very often.

Hi,

I'm looking to sell my less than 5 month old 42" LED LCD Cinema 3D LW5700 TV with 8 glasses. The reason for sale is that I'm looking to upgrade to a larger size TV.

My asking price for the TV along with 8 glasses is Rs. 60,000. The current market price for this TV is between Rs. 72-75,000 (with 4 glasses).

The TV is good as new with no issues, scratches, damage of any sort. You can checkout my review of the TV on the first page of this thread http://www.hifivision.com/television/17836-lg-cinema-3d-lw5700-lw6500-owners-thread.html (which I initiated).

I'm based out of Hyderabad. If you are interested in buying, you could PM me and demo the TV at my home.

I'm also posting this on the Buy/Sell forum.

Thanks.
