LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LW6500 Owner's Thread

Upon further research on this "Recording to HDD(DVR)" feature, i think this feature has been disabled for India. This can be enabled by accessing service menu of the TV as is explained in the link - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=20540589

For anyone interested there is a way to enable several missing features on this tv. I found a way to access the service menu's with a Harmony remote and checked it all out.

The only one normal users would be interested in is the EZ Adjust menu which this link shows how to manually add the code needed for a Harmony Remote. Access password is 0413.

Here's what I found most interesting:

Tool Option 2
Local Dim Menu set to 1 to enable Local Dimming Options in the TV Video setup menu
I have no idea why this option is disabled in the first place.

Tool Option 3

DVR Ready Set to 1 to enable Time Machine for dvr like functions on USB
This does enable Time Machine option when you put a usb drive on usb port 1 but my 4Gb stick didn't work. I'm not sure if it's because you have to use a USB Hard drive or this option doesn't work at all on the LV5500. Hopefully someone else can verify, I want this feature!

THX Set to 1 to enable THX video calibration options.
Adds the THX video mode like higher end models have. Not available on DLNA/MediaLink

THX Media Director Set to 1 to enable but not sure what it does.

Tool Option 5
Channel Browser Set to 1 to enable preview thumbnail grid of all channels.
I get thumbnail boxes for all channels but it's unable to load a preview from Cable, so it may not work on US cable. Also noticed when enabled a button with Korean words show up in the menu?

You can also enable 3D options in Tool Option 5 menu but I don't see anything new anywhere. The LW5600 is the same tv but with passive 3d, I don't know if the screen is different and/or it has a seperate processor for 3D but these options probably do nothing for LV5500.

There's also an option for CNET TV but enabling it I didn't see any new CNET features anywhere.

Also beware as everyone always says, there are settings that can brick your TV if you change the wrong thing, so be carefull. From what I could tell the EZ Adjust Menu is pretty safe but I didn't change the things I didn't know what they were.

I called in the LG service personnel, asked him to open the EZ Adjust menu and found that the "DVR Ready" setting was already set to 1.
Then asked him to change the country to AUSTRALIA, which he did.
Then on pressing "Record" on the remote after connecting HDD to USB 1, it popped a message "To format" and formatted the HDD.
I am using Videcon DTH, then when i pressed Record it flashed the error message "Recording is not available in HDMI Input", then tried the component input, still got the message "Recording is not available in Component input", tried TV input, got the message "Recording is not available in Analog Channels".
Referred the manual(in CD) again, it was mentioned "DTV is recordable".

Found on the net that in abroad countries they have switched to Digital Terrestrial Transmission instead of Analog as in ours, so the TV will be able to record digital content when connected via the Antenna socket.

Not sure if any converters exist to convert HDMI input coming from Videocon DTH settop box to Digital RF to be connected via Antenna socket of the TV.

Not sure what would be implications of the cost and quality after conversion.

I finally bit the bullet and booked my LG 47LW6500 after countless auditions and a lot of deliberation on VFM - pricing vs features. It cost me Rs. 1,04,000/- and I found thsi the cheapest rate after a solid 7 days of hunting:ohyeah:

It includes
a) 4 pairs of glasses
b) a Magic Remote
c) an 8GB USB with movies
d) a scratch card

I was trying to convince the dealer to also throw in a free WiFi Dongle but was unsuccessful :D

The dealer said I would get it in 2 days as all their stock were sold out but none the less he called up the main office of LG to reconfirm in front of me before accepting my booking amount.

I didnt want to wait till diwali as there might not be a huge price difference between then and now and plus I wanted to beat the diwali rush to ensure that the piece arrives on time. Last year when my my cousin brought his LCD during the Diwali offers the delivery got delayed by almost 3 weeks because of over bookings so this year I have tried to take adequate precautions :ohyeah:

Hi,

I just bought a 42" LG LW5700 Cinema 3D set this weekend (for Rs. 78,300 with Tata Sky HD free - LG Shoppe, Banjara Hills, Hyd). It was delivered yesterday and should be installed today or tomorrow. Will post my initial feedback as soon as possible and will be glad to answer any queries from prospective buyers.

Cheers.
Have you been able to access laptop on yr LG LW5700 Tv wirelessly??If yes, can you watch streaming videos being played on laptop, visible on LG LW5700 tv?/ How s the quality??

Mansod,

I'm able to access my laptop's content wirelessly on the TV using Plex. But it's a little tricky and doesn't always work as it should.

This, however, is not the same as wireless mirroring. Plex allows u to share a folder wirelessly but does not enable the TV to act as a monitor.

Cheers.

what is the price of the 47 lw5700 ( little brother of 6500),please conform the name and adress of the dealer

Originally I had booked the 47LW6500 from Sony Mony @ 1.08 Lacs and paid a token amount of Rs. 5k after they corss checked with the LG dealer on its availability in front of me. Sadly I recieved a call from Sony Mony stating that the piece is not available with any LG dealer in India and they cannot confirm its availability in the future. I reached their shop and immediately asked for a refund stating that they should have not confirmed to me the availability if the piece was not ready with the LG dealer. They agreed to give the refund in the evening as they had already deposited all cash for the morning in the bank. And yes I got my refund but when I went to collect the refund they tried to convince me to go for the 5700 or some model of Samsung.

In the meanwhile I contacted Gemini Electronics located at Dadar in Mumbai, showed them the purchase booking invoice of Sony Mony, bargained with them on the price and they came down to Rs. 1.04 lacs with all the goodies (read accessories) included. They did not have a piece in their shop but they got it arranged from the main LG dealer who has only 7 pieces left. It came directly from the LG godown so I was pretty much sure it would be a virgin piece and not a display model.

It arrived yesterday with all the promised accessories that come under the LG Brand offer. Other shops I had inquired were not providing the scratch card or the USB stating that they were offering a discount on the MRP. The accessories include:

a) 4 pairs of glasses
b) a Magic Remote
c) an 8GB USB with movies
d) a scratch card
e) Hungama voucher worth Rs. 900

The scratch card has won me 101 DVD titles:yahoo:

The best part was that I only paid a token amount to book it (Rs. 4k) and they collected the balance at my home and that too after I had them open tthe box and checked if it was a fresh piece and not defective in any way and they even fixed the stand and set up the TV. Monday the LG person will come for the Demo. Other dealers / shops I had inquired had all insisted that I make the full payment one day before the delivery which I refused just in case I was sent a damaged or display piece.

I was trying to get in the USB Dongle for free as it costs Rs. 1900/- but Gemini couldnt offer it to me for free. Instead offered me a price of Rs. 1,200/- unforunately it was out of stock but I have booked it and as soon as it arrives they will send it to my house along with the 101 DVD pack I have won.

I am still trying to get the calibration and settings in place as the factory settings are bad... real bad. If anyone knows the best settings please share with me.

Last but not the least, please inquire thru various dealers and channels if someone tells you that the piece is not available. In the end it boils down to the shop / salespersons relationship with the dealer to procure the piece for you. Hats off to Gemini Electronics to making this happen for me and the fantastic service provided so far.

Note: I was not interested in the 5700 due to the 100hz rating as opposed to the 200hz rating of the 6500 so I didnt ask about the price but anyone interested can send me a PM and I will inquire from Gemini or share their contact details.

Very nice deal. Just about 1.5 months back I paid 85 for just the tv and nothing else with it.
