LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LW6500 Owner's Thread

I will try to answer some of your questions here.

1) The article you mentioned is something I saw a month back and have not been able to confirm it's authenticity, so do not base your decision on that.
2) Don't even think of buying the Active shutter TV. Though the resolution is high, the brightness is less and the flickering made my eyes water in a minute of watching. It was a very uneasy experience for me. And I tried this in Croma Showroom with a D6600 Samsung model.
3) I compared 5700 and 6500 side by side in Central showroom in Bangalore and I could notice the difference in any fast action sequence. I personaly feel 10k is worth a forever peace of mind. But that's because I watch a lot of sports channels like cricket more.

Hope it helps.

Hi all,
Read through some of the posts here and I think this is the right place to ask some of the pertinent questions running through my mind.Like many of you here, I also am very keen on buying an LW6500 as the prices seem very competitive considering the other options in the market with similar specs. The only bother in my mind till now is the 540p resolution in 3D(Passive,FPR) against the 1080p on Active Shutter glasses.
But this article:LG improves 3D picture quality on Cinema 3D TVs - FlatpanelsHD
seems to suggest that that shortcoming has been compensated for.I have not been able to confirm this as none of the LW6500 reviews seem to touch upon this topic(of firmware upgrade). Some comments on review blogs brush this aside as just hogwash.
I did go to an LG showroom and checked out 47LW6500 but could not get any confirmation from the sales rep there if the Model had the latest firmware(In fact,he was oblivious of any firmware being put out by LG).I dont blame him either coz the LG India website doesn't seem to have the Drivers & Software support feature, unlike some of the LG sites for other countries viz. US,Italy etc
LG India Support page:LG Product Support for 47LW6500
LG USA Support page:LG Product Support for 47LW6500
I don't even know if the firmware upgrades are region-free or not.But it is missing from the Indian site.
Secondly, the only technical differences in specs of LW5700 & LW6500 are Motion Clarity Index of 600 and 850 & Response Time of 2.4ms & 2.0ms(besides the DCR & LED Plus on LW5700) but a huge price difference of 10K(on the 42" models). Some blogs even suggest that the Motion Clarity Index difference between the two is not a big issue. Can someone in the know throw some light on the major differences in PQ(2D & 3D) between the two?
Also, can anyone confirm if the firmware upgrade (for 1080p to each eye) really does exist & if there is any noticeable difference consequently?
Sorry if I'm asking too much but I presume the folks on this forum are quite discerning about such technicalities and would know better than most sales executives/"techies" at the showrooms.
Thanks in advance.

Here are some answers to some of your questions

1.As far as upgrades go, they come automatically if you have the tv linked to internet. Since I bought it about 2 months back I have had 3 upgrades.

2. As far as the pQ goes even without the upgrade I think you should take a demo in the shops for the two techs, and see for yourself what you prefer. I found LG to be more pleasing to my eyes - so I bought it.

3. As far difference between the two model 5700 and 6500 go another diff from the ones you mentioned is 100 Hz vs 200 Hz. Its very difficult to judge the differences by just looking at them, but if you look at the theory behind the tech then it makes sense to buy 6500.

Hi guys.

I am not being able to connect my LW6500 to Internet and getting stuck at the Gateway connection. I get the following error:

"Failed to connect the network. Gateway is not connected. Gateway address is wrong or unavailable."

I enter the following values:

A) If PC is also connected to the router

IP Address: 192.168.2.4
Gateway: 192.168.2.1 (got this using ipconfig)

B)If PC is NOT connected to the router:

IP Address: 192.168.100.15
Gateway: 192.168.100.1 (as given by my ISP)

My connection type is PPPoE and the username and password are already fed in the router's config page.

I tried entering these values in both Wired and wirelss mode, but nothing works.

I am also not sure what values should I enter for DNS Server - primary or secondary?

Can anyone help me please..those who were able to connect successfully via/without Ethernet cable...??

Thanks in advance.

If you are trying the wireless mode then don't input any values, choose the automatic option it worked for me. The only thing you need to input is the password for the wireless connection

Yup, totally agree. It is working fine for me using the automatic option. I have set up my samsung galaxy S2 3G as a wireless hotspot and my LG is easily able to access this and update the firmware.

Really good suggestion. Incidentally, I too have a Galaxy S2, so will check this out. Thanks!

The OFFICIAL cost of WiFi adapter is Rs 1900/- (MRP). Do not pay anything more than this. One of the local dealers in Pune (non-LG) was trying to con me by quoting Rs. 3000 for the same!

Can someone really please reply to this?

Laks

i dont own a lg tv but i feel you should get the extended warranty! you wouldn't want to pull your hair out if your panel goes kaput! replacement cost almost 50% price of the tv!!
someone had posted about the warranty payment breakup! see how much you want to spend! i say at least buy 2years extended warranty!

Got my 42LW5700 4 days back in bangalore. 71.5k + goodies + hdmi cable - Pen drive. I can give the details if anybody is interested..
I have a few questions here.
When I select on Web browser and other apps it says coming soon. When is it coming, any idea?
Current version running is 4.01.21. Is this the latest version?
In the home page under "Premium" tab, it says "Downloading software progress" and a rotating progress indicator comes. I kept the TV on for 4+ hours (display off) and still it was saying the same thing. Any idea what it is downloading for 4+ hours?
I have a Realtek WLAN 11g USB dongle. Can I use it to connect the TV to my wireless router? If so, how? I tried putting it in USB port, it didn't work..

Thanks in advance..

Hi all,

I have owned the LW5700 for 2 months now and i dont really know why you guys are so excited. There is currently a lot of problems with this set.
LG Apps stink, and the youtube does not even work, there are no plans from LG to intigrate flash 10 into this set,Flash 10 wil only be availabe in 2012 models. The latest firmware is ver 04.01.24 and it DOES not rectify the PS lag issues. Also,in another 4 months time, this set will be obselete..No more new updates as the will focus on the 2012 models..

The apps says comming soon means you need to connect the tv with internet.

Yes the 4.01.21 is the latest version.

for the wireless device there is other port. look at the back and you will see text "Wireless" just above the port.
