I will try to answer some of your questions here.
1) The article you mentioned is something I saw a month back and have not been able to confirm it's authenticity, so do not base your decision on that.
2) Don't even think of buying the Active shutter TV. Though the resolution is high, the brightness is less and the flickering made my eyes water in a minute of watching. It was a very uneasy experience for me. And I tried this in Croma Showroom with a D6600 Samsung model.
3) I compared 5700 and 6500 side by side in Central showroom in Bangalore and I could notice the difference in any fast action sequence. I personaly feel 10k is worth a forever peace of mind. But that's because I watch a lot of sports channels like cricket more.
