LG Cinema 3D LW5700, LW6500 Owner's Thread

Hi all,

I have owned the LW5700 for 2 months now and i dont really know why you guys are so excited. There is currently a lot of problems with this set.
LG Apps stink, and the youtube does not even work, there are no plans from LG to intigrate flash 10 into this set,Flash 10 wil only be availabe in 2012 models. The latest firmware is ver 04.01.24 and it DOES not rectify the PS lag issues. Also,in another 4 months time, this set will be obselete..No more new updates as the will focus on the 2012 models..

I Brought this tv 15 days back.
In my case LG Apps is running fine.
youtube running like charm. (Check your internate) I am using 512KBPS MTLN wired LAN.

I am too worried about Flash is not integrated.

Every techonology or the TV which is latest will be obsolute after sometime. So I am not worried in this area. Even the best TV in this world will be obsolute after some time when the new techonolgy or better performer will take place.

Hi all,
After much pondering,i finally got myself an LG-42LW6500 3 days back.Got it for 84K with the usual freebies(Magic Motion Remote+3D Movie on 8GB Pen Drive+4 3D Glasses+Hungama Subscription+Scratch Card).I'm not among the luckier ones who won a microwave or a mobile phone.I got the 101 DVD collection.lol.The only good part is I managed to coax the salesman to part with 2 extra 3D glasses. That's the best I could squeeze out of him.
So far, pleased with the overall performance(won't go into details) largely coz I didn't really know what to expect out of it.Got it connected via LAN ethernet to my router and installed PLEX on my Laptop to share all my stuff.Sucks that the web browser doesn't support Flash 10 upwards. That means you cannot view videos on Youtube as you do on Chrome or any Windows based web browser. There is a built-in app for it though. But the content is very limited. For instance, you cannot watch certain VEVO videos(or maybe all of it,dont know for sure).Typing into the browser is a pain. There should be a Bluetooth keyboard support or something.Plus the videos lag a lot,a lot of pauses before it resumes(I'm on a 2mbps connection and I presumed it would have sufficed for a smooth play without interruptions). There probably is very little caching done also.
In terms of picture quality,I'm quite pleased.I ran some 720p movies and the output was impressive.Plus 2D->3D conversion looks more convincing with hi-def content. The 576i resolution fed by my DTH looked quite smooth and watchable although you miss the finer details as is to be expected of SD content.
I'm yet to watch a real 3D content as the 8GB Drive with TRON movie is yet to reach me.
Noticed light-bleed on all 4 corners on "no-input" mode under pitch dark conditions.Plus a 20 to 30 degree tilt from the center of the screen makes the light areas more prominent.Having said that, under normal conditions(i.e.ambient room light) the bleeding was faint and quite negligible. It didn't bother me much.
One thing that disappointed me was the the lag I noticed when I connected my notebook via HDMI and played some games that need faster frame rates(i hope i used the correct terminology) such as NFS Shift. However,I couldn't notice any lag while playing FIFA12.
Another drawback while using the HDMI was when i played a 720p movie on Windows Media Player. The PQ degraded a lot compared to when it is played directly through a USB or via Media Share(using PLEX).Or maybe i just got the media player settings wrong.
Ok.That is all I have for now.I felt I should do my bit and provide the little(insignificant though it may be) observations I have made with my limited technical knowledge. Please bear in mind I'm very new to this and what I have observed may not correlate with others' observations.
Before closing this post,I would like to know if anyone knows where I could lay my hands on some good 3D movies.Have searched high & low for 3D content and all i have managed to unearth is previews and demos. The ones on torrent sites have such poor seeds,it has taken me forever to download a single movie(Avatar on download for 4 days at the time of writing,ETA 1 week +).Please do suggest me a good source/site as I am yet to watch my LG-42LW6500 in its "full-glory".
Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,

I bought 42LW5700 in Pune just 2 weeks back in Diwali.

But had to leave for my native in Diwali, hence could not enjoy it to the fullest extend and still learning the TV.

I am having SD set top box from DISH TV at home and normally the channels which I watch are SD.

1) Can you pls suggest me the best picture setting for this TV for SD and HD ?

I will do these settings as a fresh, restoring factry settings to start with...

2) To get Audio output of my TV (playing Dishtv Content) to home theater (Philips), I connected TV using 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Stereo Audio Cable. I am getting the sound, but it is very low and I think something is wrong somewhere.

Looking forward for your reply.

All them guys in US and Europe, even in Singapore are getting the xvycc video mode, only we in india dont have that feature.LG is using Youtube Leanback and not the flash enabled youtube. If you guys think you have the best deal, please look at all the other LG sites...

Bought my LG Cinema 3D 42LW5700 on 26/Oct/11 (Diwali).

I would like to know if there are any additional warranties available for this model from Year 2 to 5.

Customer care says 4000+ taxes per year , However the LG technician says 6000+ . I dont know whom to believe.

Anyone has additional warranties taken, Please suggest me the best option available.

Note: Their warranty covers entire parts except physical damage.

Output from 3.5 mm jack is low. Instead, if yr home theatre supports optical output, then go for it for the best output.

Skype Camera for 55LW5700

Anyone has any idea on when will Skype app be enabled on Smart TV. I am told AN-VC 300 Skype Camera is compatible with all Smart TV Enabled 2011 Models. Is this correct?

I have an Xbox 360. Looking forward to Skype Integration on Xbox. If that happens, will save me some money on buying LG Skype Cam. Guess, patience is the key here.

I got 2 years additional warranty for Rs1500/-, paid the money to the dealer. The warranty is provided by LG, the dealer has a tie up with LG and they said that I will directly recieve the warranty papers from LG. It's been a month now and I havn't recieved the warranty papers. But I iknow the dealer very well and I can get hold of him in case there are any issues with the TV. Also the warranty is for the over all TV, that includes the electronic circuit and the panel.

You will only get upscaled HD if you set your TV 1080p resolution. I recommend you go for a 1 time upgrade of your setup to HD box. HD TV without HD input is like driving a ferrari in villege roads :)

Bur as i mentioned the channels i see normally are SD... do u mean to say that with HD STB i can expect improved SD PQ ? in any case, what setting in the available options you suggest for 5700?

Hi,
Can someone tell me how to switch between different audio channels on a dual audio encoded file?I cant seem to find that option while I'm playing media through the USB,DLNA or Plex Media Server.Maybe the option is there when playing through a Blu-Ray player but I don't own one as of now.(If someone is wondering,I use Mediainfo to check if there are multiple audio streams.)

Another thing I have observed is that I do not have any problem playing media with DTS audio format, which seems to be the grouse of many LG TV owners. My LW6500 plays DTS just fine.I'm am using Plex to stream movies to my TV & I don't even use the Enable DTS mixdown for Media Link Clients options.Or am I missing something here?

Lastly, has any1 tried using the in-built DVR function on LW6500?According to the manual, one needs a formatted Hard Disk(not a pen drive with flash memory) with a storage of 40GB or above,to be connected to the USB port marked "HDD In"(or USB IN 1).Please give a feedback if anyone has used this DVR function.

To address some of the queries before me,

I do not have optical in my home theater. Any other alternative ?

There seems to be no alternative to the optical output for audio,as far as I know.Using the Headphone Out (3.5 mm jack) will render most audio functions useless.

True HD channels WILL improve the PQ.Currently, Videocon d2h provides 12 HD channels & 1 active 3D channel which, I have heard, plays only one content/movie recursively through the day.
Reliance BigTV is offering 250 HD channnels but barring 6 channels(which are really HD), the rest are upscaled versions of the SD channels we usually get.I wonder if that would really improve the quality of the broadcast.

Thanks.

Thanks guys for replying... I called technician to visit my tv for audio out to home theater. he told me that audio signal from STB to tv and from tv to to Home theater is reducing the Audio quality... transmission loss...he showed me a trick of connecting STB audio output thru RYG cable directly to home theater... this improved the quality but i can not get the audio of USB to home theater if i do so, ... hovever one thing which we observed was USB connected to tv gives me a very good audio out to home theater thru the same 3.2 jack , so it is the transmission loss which is coming my way of 3.2 jack... anyways it seems i will have to lwave with it, as i do not have the optical in on my home theater...
abt PQ of SD, he said it is normal and recommended me to go for tata sky instead of dish tv also said that upgrading to hd STB improves the SS PQ a bit... all this is just a perception or there is any truth in this ? can u guys help ... is upgrading to Dish Tv HD not a good option ? pls commet ! waiting...!

The 3.5mm jack audio output is "normally" not meant for HT input.I found out yesterday that apart from the Optical output for audio, there IS actually another means. This requires your HT to support ARC(Audio Return Channel) feature. This probably means your HT will have a HDMI port. You can connect a HDMI cable between the TV & HT and use the ARC Mode in the Audio Settings.

The above images are from LG LED LCD TV/PLASMA TV Owner's Manual

About upgrading to HD,I don't think there would be any improvement to SD channels.SD channels are 576 interlaced(576i) resolutions which is why they are called SD.The other resolutions being 720p(or HD) & 1080i(or Full HD) for channel transmissions. So whether an SD channel is being upscaled by your TV or the DTH providers upscale it for you,the end result would be pretty much the same(i.e you won't get "TRUE" HD out of upscaled SD).But I'm only guessing.
To answer some of my own issues,I found that one can switch between multiple audio streams when playing multiple audio stream encoded media via USB.The option is right there in the Set Video Play option launched through the Quick Menu Button on the remote when playing the file.To change the audio stream, select Audio Language and choose from the available audio channels.
However, the same options are grayed out while streaming the media through DLNA or Plex Media Server.Plex,I can understand(It is still BETA), but what happened to DLNA?Any ideas how to activate them?

P.S. This thread seems to be going out of fashion. :D

Hi Thanks for replying.
I tried with ARC, but even though my DVD has HDMI input, it does not have ARC HDMI (It seems !).
I have connected my DVD with TV thru HDMI and I could get the sound of HT to TV (meaning whatever I play on DVD, it goes to both TV and HT Speakers thru HDMI) and I had to keep my TV on mute when I play anything on DVD. But the STB AUDIO delivered content to TV is not going HT through that HDMI Cable.
My DVD is Philips HTS3510. Am I missing something ?

You are right.Philips HTS3510 does not support ARC feature.
