I purchased the 47LW6500 model on a recent trip to thailand as it was very competitively priced. Eagerly waiting to fix it myself. It costed me 35,500 Thai Baht (around 59000) and had to pay the customs a gift of 3000 bringing the total price to 62000. I found this thread very useful in finalizing which tv to buy.

i bought a 42LW650S here in Dubai, UAE last Feb 2012...not knowing that this is for Russian/European market...then i called LG about this and complained that UAE country setting is not availabe so i couldn't get the LG TV apps for UAE...

then weeks has passed and whoa today LG called me and informed that they will replace the 650S with 42LW5700 without any charges...i bought the 650s @ 3400 while 42LW5700 is currently priced @3900 dirhams...

now i would like to know which has better specs and picture quality between LW650S and LW5700...

shall i agree with the change or 650S is better?

LG customer service said that the only difference is 650S has 200MHZ tru motion while 5700 has 100MHZ...and i also checked that 650S is 9M:1 while 5700 is 8M:1 contrast ratio...is there much difference between them?

LG fans please advise....thanks

@mtnrajdeep

This month end am travelling to Bangkok, Please let me know where you purchased 47 LW5700, am planning to get 42 LW5700 .
Thanks.

Hello, everyone.

I have been reading these posts for quite some time and also I'm interested in the LG Cinema 3D TVs.

I'm thinking of buying the 42" LW5700. I have checked for the TV in Kormangala Croma a long time ago. I'm not sure of what the price of the TV is now (at present). However, I'm still having a doubt about going for this TV (LG LW5700 LED I mean), because I think the price is little high comparing to other LCD TVs.

Please help me decide guys. Is this LW5700 still good enough to buy considering its price? According to me the price may be 75,000/- to 78,000/- INR, now if I try to purchase I guess (not sure).

I know this is out of the topic but I also went to the Panasonic showroom in Kormangala and saw the VIERA TH-L42U30D (U Series LCD) and VIERA TH-P42X30D (U Series Plasma). Plasma screen's picture quality was much better than the LCDs screen.

Now, I'm in confusion on going for the LG LED 3D TV or the normal LED, LCD or Plasma TVs to save some money and use it on buying a Home Theater System (HTS).

I really want to buy a 3D TV, but is it worth the price. Please help guys. May be this week I'll be forced to purchase a TV.

Thanks in advance..

Demo this tv again and again, specially 3D. When I say demo the tv with 3d, I mean demo it for as long as you can and with as much content as you can. Most showrooms these days have DTH channels running, so you may convert these channels to 3d and watch for atleast 15-20 minutes. Watch a few HD clips and few 3D clips. Play a 3D movie on it for 15-20 minutes, play a normal HD movie and convert it to 3D and again watch for 15-20 minutes (yes, a lot of showrooms will allow you to do that).

If after doing the above for the duration mentioned, you still feel you wanna go back for more, then buy this TV, else buy a good 2DTV (though many say that a 3DTV is more likely to be an awesome 2DTV as well).

The reason I am suggesting 15-20 minutes of everything is so that you see the novelty of 3D fading away and only when you cross that barrier will you realize whether you actually prefer a 3dtv or not. I personally demoed the 3d on this tv time and again, using various input sources, and only then I realized that not only can I watch 3D for long hours on this passive tv, but also that I actually preferred 3d over 2d! Infact, time and again, I actually watch a lot of TV channels converted to 3D and prefer them that way :ohyeah:! When I watch those episodes (Roadies, cricket, Fifa to name a few) in 2D, I actually feel bored and compelled to switch on the 3D mode. Since most of my time is spent on watching TV channels than movies (by that I dont mean I watch less movies....im a movie freak!!) I feel that the very fact that I like watching quite a few channels in 3D, makes this TV all the more worth for me.

Here is what I use this TV for (in order of frequency):

1) TV Channels (2D)
2) PS3 Gaming (2D)
3) TV Channels (Converted to 3D)
4) Movies (3D or Converted to 3D)
5) Movies (2D)
6) PS3 Gaming (3D)
7) Split-Screen Gaming using two Left lenses in one glass, and two right lenses in the other. Thus me and my bro play racing and shooters in full screen. The resolution though of each screen looks kinda stretched. We have just played this way 4-5 times, but feel its way better than playing in splitscreen.

Personally I am having a great time with this set, and I feel that I am using it to its fullest :)! So for me, it was a great buy :D!

So please do go out and demo this set (mostly 3D) as much as you can and for as long as you can. Only then would you be able to tell whether you desire a 3dtv or not!

Thanks a lot for your reply and suggestion. I think I'm going to do the same. In fact I already went for demos in several places. It actually felt good to watch the 3D (I really like it). The prob is that I have to convince my family members to purchase this TV. I guess Im gonna have hard time convincing my family.

Thanks again. I'll let u know when I've decided.

3D is the way to go, it's better to go for EMI or wait for 4-5 months in case it doesn't fit your budget now :) . The wait will be worth my friend :)

Well take them for a few demos of the 'Active' 3D sets. Then when everyone has demoed these active sets and had their share of headaches, tell them that there is a new tech lg has come out with, so lets try that too!! That should do the trick....as, unlike the active 3d sets, the passive 3D doesnt feel gimmicky at all, the 2D-3D conversion is way beyond imagination and 3D glasses are super super light!

Thats what worked for me !

Also try to educate them that a 3Dtv is actually a very very good 2Dtv as well. I remember when we were taking demos of 3dtvs, my wife seemed least interested, as she thought that in 3Dtvs, you can only watch 3D !!

I actually had to ask the salesman to show her every channel in 2D. lol....the tv can even convert 3D material to 2D!!! Only then did she join-in in the hype :ohyeah:

Also, try

Yeah, I guess the trick you have used should work. I'll try that. Thanks again angynagpal.

Hi all,
All this while I kept hearing that passive 3d glasses are very cheap, and that you can get them for as less as $5 etc. But where are these cheap glasses?? On ebay, the passive glasses seem damn expensive!!!! They average between 3-4k each!!!!

Where can I buy the cheaper passive 3D glasses from?

Hi,

I feel its the same glasses what we use while watching 3D in theatres. Recently

I went to a 3D movie in Hong Kong, there I should buy 3D glasses to watch the movie. I thought it was very good offer. only 30INR for each pair. I bought nearly 4 pairs thinking that i would be useful somehow. Now I got LG 42" LW4500 in Malaysia for 44K INR. Yet to take this to India through customs.. Not sure how much they charge as per new Budget. They gave me 4 pairs of glasses. I see its same glass what I got from Hong Kong last time.

yet to test the same. If anybody has friends from Movie theatre circle, please answer where can we purchase these glasses for reasonable price in India?

Thanks,

Surya

LG LW6500 Is TV OF THE YEAR IN NDTV GADGET GURU

No surprises there....passive tech is the future! And with 6500 having a better refresh rate than 5700, no wonder it got the nod.

Just read an article today where it mentioned the fact that Sony and Panasonic are getting passive technology from LG!! I guess they realized it too that for 3d, passive is the way to go.

I think the only difference between 6500 and 5700 is the refresh rate of 200Hz in 6500 as compared to 100hz in 5700. May be 6500 offers little high contrast. So if there is not much price difference between 5700 and 6500, better to go for 6500

well i think the 6500 is much expensive im not sure of the price exactly but maybe i wont be able to afford it but i will ask about its price, but sometimes i look at the samsung and sony tv's and keep thinking and wondering (im a type of people that thinks carefully before taking a desicion in buying) which better just i dont think i will rest and put my choice on something but the reasons i mentioned is quite enough that a person go for a 3dtv from lg anyway whats your opinions i would like to share opinions with you guys
