Also when I click on that configure button in the sound box it first shows up the box to configure the "speaker system that is most likely on my computer" and the available option is only STEREO. after i click next it tells me to configure the front and left speaker but the surround speaker option is greyed out. Is this way its supposed to be or do u have some other config on ur laptop?

folks.. looks like the configuration wherein a Laptop HDMI is connected to a device(Tv or AVR) typically allows only 2 channels of audio output in the HDMI signal.. saw some discussion thread in the net.. you may want to check these out...

Waveking,

Try sending a PM to vashishta.sushant as well. He was facing a similar issue connecting his HTPC to Onkyo 3300. Believe he was able to resolve it. You can find his postings on the same in this thread as well.

If I am not wrong, ontherocks was helping him in the same as well.

here are those
And I don't think i have realtek hd audio driver
Hmm......everything seems to be correct. Just change the level to 100 under Levels tab and put a tick on "Disable all enhancements" under Enhancements tab.

Then try playing in VLC with a newer version of AC3Filter 1.63b or Spdifer 0.3b Spdifer

Keep all the default settings in AC3Filter except the SPDIF tab. Make the following changes

And if you use Spdifer make the following changes

Don't install both the applications. Install and use only one.
Set everything as above and just do a reboot to be on the safe side, then play the files in VLC.

Hi allajunaki, Could you please let the group know the items inside the package. In another thread folks are trying to get a deal on this. I saw one member received a DVD player as part of the package , is it not uniform across dealers ? Please let us know.

Hi Guys
I have a quick question.
When i am watching a Dolby Digital Movie on the HT.
Should selecting Dolby D on the movie give a good effect?
What should i select for maximum effect?

Cheers

You will have to define "maximum effect".
But as such "Dolby D" should be a preferred setting.
"In this mode, audio from the input source is output without surround-sound processing. Sp Config (presence of speakers), Crossover, Sp Distance, A/V Sync and much of the processing set via AUDIO are enabled."

If you want the AVR to do just the decoding, without any kind of surround-sound processing you can select "Direct". Sometimes when a movie has too much bass this gives better results (tighter, less boomy bass).

But then it all depends on personal preferences too.

I tried several 1080p BD rips and am pretty sure that they contain 5.1 tracks coz of their large size(many are around 14 gigs). I tried vlc, gom, media player classic homecinema but no luck whatsoever. I tried searching for this issue on the net and i guess i am not the only one facing this problem. I think it has something to do with audio not being passed through the laptop to avr unhindered. The media players are tinkering with the audio in some way and so it is not being passed to the avr as it is. Have to resolve this problem.

hi waveking,
i too experience the same problem. i am having a htpc, with athlon II x4 and radeon hd 5770 1 gb graphics card. i connected my onkyo hts3300 to graphics card's hdmi out. but when i am playing .mkv files having dolby digital, i am getting only PCM. the surround is not so sharp. i have also tried ordinary dvd s with dolby digital and DTS support. "dts" logo is displayed when i select neo6. but i am sure its the PCM. i am also looking for the solution. i am using windows 7. please tell me if u find any solution....

Hi Guys
One More Query.
I have my Tata Sky STB connected via HDMI to the receiver and then HDMI out to the TV.
When watching news or other SD channels i dont want to use the AVR and i want to use the speakers of the tv.
Is it possible without switching on the AVR?
IF Yes what settings need to be changed in Onkyo hts-3300

Cheers

Has anyone connected the 3300 with a desktop PC Not laptop (onboard sound/sound card)????
What is it that you wish to know?

You need either onboard digital output (Coaxial/Optical/HDMI) OR a soundcard with digital output (Coaxial/Optical/HDMI) OR an external soundcard with digital output (Coaxial/Optical/HDMI) OR graphics card with HDMI for DTS/DD and like. If you have any such outputs then connect optical OUT from desktop to optical IN of HT-S3300, similarly for coaxial OUT and HDMI OUT.

For just stereo (& virtual 5.1) the headphone out of the desktop could be used with, for example the "TV/CD" analog input of HT-S3300.
