onkyo hts 3300

Bought the onkyo HTS 3300 from 5.1 Digital Park in Chennai for Rs.22,500/-. Shall update on the performance after installing it on Monday.

I have installed it and it is working great. However I am not getting the bass from the subwoofer. I have it connected to the DVD player, set top box, WD Live. All connected to Samsung 42" LCD T.V. Except for the WD player others do not have HDMI connection. I am not also able to get the onscreen menu from the Amp. Am I missing something? Do I need to have HDMI cable from the amp to the T.V to get the onscreen menu. I am not sure how to tweak the performance from the remote to get the desired result. Where do I look for the audyssey audio processing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably your Subwoofer is set to "OFF"

Yes

Everything is there in the manual. Read it.....all your queries will be answered.

Thank you for the update. I had it connected through HDMI cable and through onscreen menu tweaked the subwoofer performance. Yes, as you said it was set to `OFF' position. Well when I connected it through the WD Live the sub was rocking and started to move around. I have kept a mat underneath the sub to stop it from moving. This is simply a superb HTIB for an entry level system.

guys where in chennai i can get onkyo S3300 fro good price iam planning to buy one ,reliance and croma doesn't have these models.

You don't need to connect it to TV to see any extra menu item. Everything can be seen on the AVR display itself. The menu just looks good on TV, that's all.

Audyssey makes the bass boomy. Its ON by default. Turn it OFF. May be you will like it.

Need help with DVD player. I earlier had Philips HTS 3107 HTIB. since I bought Onkyo 3300 I tried to play the dvd through the philips dvd player connected with onkyo 3300 AVR. This dvd player also has an amp inside and has very basic connections (No HDMI or Optical connections). I was able to get the video but there was problem connecting audio through the audio cables as the output sound did not come through. I tried connecting it through another DVD player but the output audio was not good and the auto detection of Dolby or DTS did not happen in the AVR.

I would be buying a BD player sometime later. However, if I need to buy a cheap DVD player in the range of 4k can someone please suggest which DVD player would best suit the 3300.

Thanks,

purchased 3300 for 23K today. Thanks to madhan for his assistance.. got it connected and was just playing with it.. sounds awesome.. however I have a small problem.. Initially I belive it showed "Dolby" symbol when I played a Blu ray disc... but later( I assume, after changing some settings,) I donot see that Dolby symbol for BD player.. it shows only PCM.. I am not sure whether the receiver receives the Dolby sound via the HDMI cable.. can anybody help?

Yes the receiver receives all types of signal upto HD audio through HDMI.
Most probably you have changed some setting in the BD player where its processing the audio (like downscaling it).

also check if the HDMI cable in 1.3, if not then HD tracks may not be passed through it

i have HTS 3300 and HD tracks work for me flawlessly

You will get the signal if hdmi passthru feature is there in 3300.. if you have that feature then you will get both audio and video in stand by mode.

Purchase a 1kva for complete HT in reality it gives only 640 or some Watts.. Incase you add more components it is good.

Read about stabilizer related threads in this forum before you purchase.

Friends please help, which would be a cheap dvd player for 4k that I could buy. Do I need to look anything spefic in the dvd player before I buy it. I am concerned because couple of DVD players I tried did not auto detect DTS or Dolby in the 3300 avr. It would be helpful if I knew which one to buy rather than bying something and regretting later if there is any compatability issue.

So its been a while since I got my 3300 and I am loving every bit of it!!!
I have seen Expendables, Toy Story, Inception, The Dark Knight, How To train Your Dragon so far on my system and all of these looked(and sounded) great!!
But I have one quibble. All of these movies were blu-ray rips(mkv) but I only got a pcm feed in my avr. No dolby digital 5.1. Only DTS. Has anyone out here tried BD rips and got DD 5.1 or a superior audio feed on their systems?

Waveking,

What device are you using to play these rips?
