Panasonic UT50 (2012 model) Owners Thread

Guys,
I am going to book 42UT50 today. :yahoo:
Congratulations. This is a good TV. What is the price?

Few questions:
1) After how many days does the pana guy comes for installation ?
Usually within two days.

2) What all should i expect in the plasma cardboard box (ex : TV - (of course) ,warranty card, manual, etc ) ?
Depends. I got my warranty card signed from the dealer. Manual is in the box. Box will also contain 3D glasses or maybe handed over separately.

3)Should i expect the box to be completely sealed or can it be opened by the dealer for verification.
You cannot make out anything. Refer to my ST50 thread - post 1 pictures. There are plastic clamps that hold the top cover to the base. Remove the clamps and the whole top box can be pulled off from the top of the base. In any case, if the dealer wants to cheat, they know how to make the box look untampered. The only way to know is to check the usage hours.

4) If the box is sealed, can i open the box or let the pana guy do it.
Do not, repeat, DO NOT, open the box yourself. Let the Panasonic guy open it. This way and just in case the TV is damaged, you can claim damaged/replacement. Take photos at every step before installation when box is delivered, when box is opened, during installation, etc.

5) Any other thing that i should ask the dealer or keep in mind while booking the plasma and while i accept the delivery.
Tell him that you expect a fresh piece and not a display/demo piece.

6) Not buying the printer.

Let me know.....

I am very excited :ohyeah: and nervous :p

Thanks,
Myzus
Good. Enjoy.

Good price. Don't worry to much about glasses as the old generation 2011 version do not work with 2012 tv models. And you can always exchange them, if they don't.

I am glad to have helped.

Few questions:
1) After how many days does the pana guy comes for installation ?

either the dealer registers your installation request with Pana, or you can do it yourself too. in any case, you get a SMS with Request No. As per Pana policy, installation would be free if done within 1 month, otherwise extra. the wall mounting kit would be provided separately by dealer in a box, apart from the TV box.

2) What all should i expect in the plasma cardboard box (ex : TV - (of course) ,warranty card, manual, etc ) ?

from what I remember, 1-year warranty card (customer copy only) will be inside the sealed tv box. fill the this for your ref. this card would also contain 3-4 coupons, of which the 1st (named installation) would be taken back by engineer who came for installation. other coupons are for service related, to be used when required within 1 year.

also, manual book, remote and battery would be there in box.

The extra 2 yr (i.e. 2nd & 3rd yr) warranty card would be given separately. Atleast in my case, some found it inside box. but no harm in taking it.
Fill this form - customer & Pana copy side, scan all these imp papers (& pic of sr# on box) and email to Pana, you should get itself registered with total 3 yr warranty - they send a PDF with unique number. wow, no need of postage !

3)Should i expect the box to be completely sealed or can it be opened by the dealer for verification.
it should be completely sealed, notice the manufacturing date stamped on the box, near the bar code. I think in you case should be Aug12 or later. (When I purchased in Sept end, I had Aug stamp)

4) If the box is sealed, can i open the box or let the pana guy do it.

let the Pana service engineer do it. (actually they outsource this job to local service dealer of you area). they would measure and drill the wall, and install.

5) Any other thing that i should ask the dealer or keep in mind while booking the plasma and while i accept the delivery.

6) Not buying the printer.
personally speaking, good decision to save 2K.

please see my reply inline. relax & enjoy the buy. read this thread or similar and take care in initial usage.

I did not like the Viera Android app.

I tried diplaying video thru Viera app. It works fine on Samsung Galaxy S2. But I prefer the Samsung All Share app.

In which input mode was the TV when you displayed video from your S2 ? Is this through Viera app or Allshare? If it s Samsung Allshare, which is DLNA, I will not be able to replicate on iPad.

TV's input mode was on HDMI-1 (STB), I guess. The video playback (share) worked in multiple ways:

- i started playing the video using Mobo player and then clicked on the options button and clicked on 'Share Video'. It gave me option of "All Share". Clicked that and video started appearing on TV (after confimation popup).
- started "All Share" app and then chose the video to display. TV appeared on the list of available devices. Video started playing (after confimation popup).
- started Viera app, clicked on Videos tab and then pointed the SGS2 to TV and just swiped the finger across the video. Video started appearing on TV (no confimation popup).

DLNA is a framework and not specific to Samsung or a Samsung app. DLNA will be available on iPad also.

I explored some more and found out some things. Irrespective of the input mode, Allshare and Viera remote app videos and pictures will be displayed on the TV screen when the content is 'pushed' to the tv. In case of Allshare, video will display immediately after selecting play list. In case of remote app, there is a small square and up arrow icon on the upper RHS of the media screen. Content will display on tv screen upon press of that icon. For some reason video from iPad is sluggish.

Apple is not member of DLNA, so the is no native support for DLNA in Apple products. Due to Apple idiosyncrasy wrt other's technology, pure Flash support is still a problem in iPad. To that extent Apple products are restrictive.

I do not have the exact idea. All Panasonic plasmas have 1 year full warranty and 2 years of extended warranty on panel. This is built into the price.

I helped the user in solving queries only. Please contact the original buyer for details. Thanks.

I would say You bargained real tough. I exchanged 21" CRT and dealer gave a discount of 2K, which is very fair. for 29" the exchange saves hardly 2.5 / 3K - so in that regards, you got a damn good price! enjoy. plus an extra 3d glass. :clapping:

did you check the usage ?

for the initial 200 hours, its recommended to keep contrast below 50 (I keep 35), brightness on low side (I put on 0!) and dont run static images/channel logo for long. Under the Menu --> Display - Advanced, switch on the Pixel Orbiter and you also find slides menu (black & white slides scrolling on screen) which you can run once in while for 5-10 min after watching tv for few hours.

for the break-in shows: just use as much as dynamic content on TV. sometimes I run the "Ultimate Planet Earth" video downloaded from youtube and put on pen drive - keep on Repeat mode; run for 30 min. you can play any such scenic HD or FHD video on loop.

Evangelos Angelides - Downloads
download the Images (exact the zip file) on pen drive and insert into the usb slot - play in Repeat (loop) mode with specific slide change interval. on this portal, few recommend to change slide every 30 sec, but I feel thats too high (static!) and I keep it changing every 5 sec. in this mode, ensure that its actually changing the slides (i.e. ur in slide show mode), and then leave the tv room! run this once in a day, for about 10 min. also ensure, that the color slides are fully covering the screen size - check resolution 16:9.

ideally, dont leave the TV unattended for long period, when running such shows.

Hi Friends,
w.r.t. IR - have read a lots and have been passing on these info & my tips, and today Im in a fix !
Yes, I noticed IR on my 1.5 month set. Trust, I havnt even enjoyed my TV since purchase, due to busy schedules and family have been advised the dos n donts, typical not to watch same channel more time etc.

Just a while back, I switched ON the set and started the EA image slides on my pen drive. I was just carefully watching the screen, in random fear of IR and I discovered the Sony (S) logo on right top corner. This can be easily missed by a normal user, but people like us can find it watching it carefully. Instantly, I switched off the lights and again re-confirmed - yet it was there ! Oh No.

Ran the build-in scrolling bars for 5 min or so, but no success.

Normally, we at home just put tv on standby using remote. Today I switched Off from mains and again started. Checked the usage - its 133 hours. Again restarted the TV (no other option to exist of Service menu).

Then re-started the EA images, which earlier had slide change of 5 sec, now increased to 10 sec. While Im writing this, its still looping the images.

Tried taking pic using my mobile (in dark room, without flash) - highlighted the S (Sony) area:

00.jpg

I have TataSky-HD, and I didnt notice its logo on the bottom right corner.

Im doing my research on this topic and bit worried. Kindly help me asap.

y'day I had spoken to Wife and got to know that generally Sony-SAB channel is more watched. Even on the day I noticed this IR, Sony-SAB was watched continuous for 2 hours - but this view itself may not be the reason for IR, and may be a reason of pile-up.

so, what I think of Sony logo, maybe Sony-SAB logo, the big S is common.

now talking on the remedial steps taken so far:
- looped on of my regular video for 2 hours continuous (I often use this earlier too - Ultimate Planet Earth from youtube)
- looped the EA images for 2 hours
- looped again this video overnight y'day
- ran one video showing colorful snowy pixels for abt 30 min
Plasma TV Logo Removing DVD - fix burn-in pixels
didnt have DVD so extracted the 16:9 vob file on pendrive, its a 10sec, so looped it.

in-between had done power-off few times and resumed play.

on more thing I noticed, in the EA solid slides, when the greens come, I could few see vertical bars (not lines), but not noticeable in other colors.

tonight will again check for IR. have asked family to watch on zoom-1.
as much that I have read, mild IR will go away by changing to dynamic content, but may take minutes to hours !
the typical problems arises due to opaque channel logo and not by translucent logo, just like TataSky HD.
