Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Pretty Big, get the tv size(without stand) from the Panasonic web site and add 3" / 8~10mm to all three dimensions to arrive at the pack size.

Alternatively let us know which vehicle you are considering to transport this in and we could tell if it will fit in the same or not.

Plz someone provide measurement of the outer packing box of 50VT20...

Thanks for the reply.

I am considering an Innova or Scorpio to transport it. Plz help as I will leave tomorrow evening from Himachal for Delhi to pick my TV and attend my cousin's marriage too :)

Better use the Volvo buses to transport. It may be cheaper and safer.

TV was replaced today. New TV had usage of 4 mins and couple of switch on/offs.
None of the pixels are dead as of now.
Have to start over the no-logo TV watching again for 10-15 days!

The main dimension that should matter is the width and the panel itself is 48 inches add 3 inches on either side and you end up with 54 inches or four and a half feet. Do verify that there is enough width in the vehicle between the arm rests with the doors closed.

In the Scorpio there is ample space between the front and the mid row to accomodate the depth. Also in fixed bench models of Scorpio the mid row of seats can slide back by a few inches. Do that and you can accommodate the tv there. I cannot recall if the Innova has a hump in the floor or is flat like the Scorpio. In case you are hiring the vehicle then check the Tavera too it has the most space between the front and mid rows, enough in fact to accommodate the PDP + passengers.

Do remember that the plasma has virtually no protection in the middle portion of the panel beneath the cardboard packaging. It will be best to place the plasma with the screen towards the front, to avoid damage by someone inadvertently kicking the box. The back of the panel is one solid sheet of metal.

The other alternate is to carry the tv at the fag end by fitting it diagonally and have one person sit on the jump seat holding the panel all of the time. Remember Plasmas have to be carried up right to avoid damaging them.

Thanks a lot, bro. Will keep all the things in mind transporting the plasma.

The replacement TV I got was brought in a Versa/EECO. So it should fit in Innova/Scorpio easily (assuming seats can be folded if necessary).

Hi ,
I am looking to buy one 50 inch Panasonic plasma TV . I am confused about VT20 and VT 20D nomenclature. Are these two different models ? Which one is better or more advanced and what are good price ( range ) ? I am in Ahmedabad , and I get price of Rs. 1.06 lac for 50VT 20 . I find here in the forum price range of 75 k for this model . I am confused and cannot make a buy decision.
Can you guys as owners of 50 VT20 , guide me and give me link to buy this tv at good price ?
Thanks

The alphabet after VT20 that you are refereeing to is a region code. It's not something that you have control over and not something you should worry about.

IIRC, D is the code assigned to India.

Regarding the best prices, look around in the Television sub-form and the Group buy sections.

So did you get the replacement VT20 from Panasonic Service Team?

VT20D is VT20 minus hard disk recording.
There is no VT20 only TV as I know.

In Europe, like other TVs it ships with Freeview HD (DTH) Decoder and has DVR functionality ONLY FOR this DTH content. Hence there is no other "recorder" feature on the TV, anywhere as the DVR essentially rips the original broadcast stream to an external USB storage and could be seen when switching to the HD Tuner menus.

Hi Radni14,

I am from A'bad and bought 50VT20D for 75K this Diwali. If you are interested, you may get in touch with the stores incharge Mr. Arvind of Croma, Devarc Mall. As per my last info, Croma was having stock of 2 pieces. Negotiate for additional glasses, Tatasky HD and may be more.

Best of luck.

Yes it was replaced by Panasonic service team. It came in sealed box exactly same as a new one and the box had all accessories as in a new TV.

Talking of "sealed" piece for 50VT20 is a joke though. The box can be opened by removing the 4 plastic handle like retainers on the sides without opening the seal! Hence checked the usage immediately after it was switched on.

Hi vkatta,
Thanks for your post. I Am indeed interested in getting panasonic 50VT20D as early as possible at your price of 75 k . So far I have not found a piece in stock at any panasonic brand shop , but will try tomorrow at Croma. How good is their warranty ?
If you know a place where I can try to look for a piece of 50vt20d , pl do let me know.
Thanks

His Location is clearly stated as "Ahmedabad".

Anyway, I suggest you check at Croma. The warranty is provided by Panasonic, so it doesn't matter where you pick it up from. Although, if you pick it up from Croma, you can be assured that it'll be a sealed piece :)

Hi Radni14,

1. Croma Devarc Mall had opened a brand new piece for demo to me and perhaps repacked it, as the same was not delivered to me. I got a new one from their godown. So they might be having the same in store for demo.

2. You can try to have a demo at Croma, Himalaya Mall or "Care" on SG Highway (Vishal Retail Building in front of Gurudwara) or JD Electronics, Nehru Bridge Corner - all these stores were having demo pieces during Diwali, and Plasma TVs not being so much in demand, in all probability you should be in a position to have a demo.

3. Panasonic service (or was it Croma?) has been excellent. Bought TV on 23 OCT, delivered on 24th and installed on 25th. Tatasky was installed on 26th (Diwali day). Extended Warranty Card took a little time, but info feedback from Mr. Arvind was excellent.

Hope, this will be of help.

Unfortunately they are available only at Croma outlets. Go to any and negotiate hard to around 65k and please get an inventory of stocks there so other members could also benefit. Tell them that you could arrange atleast 2 to 3 more customers (do it only after checking on stocks) if the price could be brought down to 65k.
