thanks to my 'ears' in Bangalore, Gobble, i managed to procure a little gem of an amp called Musica INT 30 ..
there is precious little about it on the net..except maybe here
http://www.eden-audio.com/ the info here has been copied from the musica site)..in this website the amp retails for about 470 euros but i got mine from ARN in Bangalore for INR 17.5K including the cost of transport...
i don't have much experience with audio gear so will not be able to make objective comments about the amp..
i can only compare with the NAD 325BEE (which i still have by the way and maybe tempted to sell, but that's for later..)
background story:
i was getting a bit tired with the NAD and wanted something more compatible with my highly sensitive AUDIRE CALLISTOES FLs..one bored afternoon i was leafing through an old WHAT HIFI when i chanced upon the phone number of forum member odyssey of ARN SYSTEMS..i told him about my predicament (in which cost sensitivity was right up there with the sensitivity of the speakers as being the factors dictating my choice) and he suggested (i) red wine audio (which i rejected outright for its 'high' price) (ii) dayens ampino and (iii) the musica int 30..
fortunately for me Rahul (Gobble) has or rather used to pretty much have the same audio chain as mine (same amp, same cd player and same speakers...not to mention an overlap even in music choices..of course his is much more eclectic..i on the other hand could listen to just herbbie hancock for six months at a stretch)..
anyway odyseey kindly consented to have them over at rahul's place for about a week..
rahul indulged in some critical listening of the amps in question and kept me updated regularly on his impressions ...
based on his inputs i decided to take the plunge with the INT and have not regretted the decision...
the amp has less power (i think 25W) than my NAD but it sings quite beautifully with my callistoes..the detail retrieval is good, the separation great with the vocalists dead centre and at the back and i am not missing the power of my NAD..
i listened to a whole range of music on it from miles davis, to hancock to jennifer warnes..and i am glad to inform that i am better able to enjoy the music than with the NAD..i tried comparing the INT 30 + CALLISTOES combination with the NAD + MS 902i and found that while the latter delivered more punch and heft, was a tad tiring on the ears and its music sounded 'artificial' as compared to the INT and CALLISTOES, which sang quite well and effortlessly...
the build of the INT is good by the way, the fascia is made of 8mm aluminium and the innards are minimalist...
i am sure rahul with his better command over the audiophile vocabulary and more discerning judgment will post his reviews about the INT 30..
thanks rahul, odyseey..everyone...
i must say i am quite loving it...the combination is good for nearfield listening at moderate to low to very low volumes...
