I too have handshake issues sometimes, but nothing that worries me. I am sure a future firmware will fix this, I am still using the firmware that came with it.

Hi,

I just bought an Emotiva setup for my main theatre

UMC-1 pre pro

and

UPA-7 Power Amp.

photos will follow.

Purchased online from emotiva, had them ship to borderlinx, who shipped to here.

I had the UMC-1 for a few days before the UPa-7 came in, and was driving it using the multichannel input of my Yamaha reciever.

the umc-1+ yam the sound was noticably cleaner than just the yam (but did not do a proper a-b) comparision.

issues with the umc-1 include very slow response to the hdmi changes (lose the first 2 seconds of audio) and sometimes it does not work for audio cd / sa-cd via hdmi (from the bdp) if the projector is off. (solved the audio cd problem by also connecting a digital in) - this is firmware 6.14 (not the latest)


umc1+yam versus umc1+upa7 has been more difficult to judge.


the upa7 definitely times a lot better with music (everything is just a bit more rhythmic) and it is a hell of a lot louder than I'll ever take it in my house. however, IMHO, the Yamaha has a much warmer sound. of course the yam has run for 2000+ hours and the upa7 just arrived yesterday, so maybe a comparison is unfair.

with multichannel (Esp SA-CD), it's not much of a contest, the umc1+upa7 is clearly ahead of the umc1+yam even though it's fresh out of the box.

delayed audio response on UMC-1--chk your Hdmi cable ,get a good one preferably a chord or VDH or may be the emotiva X series Hdmi cable (VFM) ,this shud solve the delay ,it did for me

CD play back ,true the Display need to be kept on if played via Hdmi ,but as you rightly found out any digital connection ( optical / Coa-ax ) shud take care of this issue ,but for me, for audio its via a different set up so havent given this much thot

For multichannel play back with UMC-1 the sorrounds seem to come to life altogether and are in a differnt league as compared to my previous set up

About loudness The Emotiva combo will play louder with same clarity and seperation than AVR , with High def audio you tend to hit the volume levels , here an AVR will simply switch off at these levels

Another highlight of UMC-1 is the center channel ,the detail and clarity is great, which is missing in the AVRs

would have wished you cud have gone in for the X series power amps ,may be an XPA5 + XPA2 in stages

I am having Sony DAV-DZ270 HT system....would like to know can i connect it to my AVR1604....
Sony have 5.1 speaker output
My AVR have provision of 5.1 external input


It will help me to play DVD's also..... I have currently connected Seagate HD player to it.....but for watching movies i have to every time copy the DVD to laptop and then to HD player.....:sad:

Moreover, if i can connect the sony to my receiver what will be the effect on the sound output....good or bad.....I have connected Wharf 8.4 Tower, 8 Centre & 8 DFS to my receiver.....

I did try a variety of HDMI cables.. what works best with the Sony BDP is the cable it shipped with (tried QED, bandridge, monoprice and BJC). for the HTPC the Monoprice 6ft is working best (funny no?)

I need a solution for SACD boz my BDP does a bit perfect DSD-> PCM conversion so I can use the upa-7 d/a convertors if I use hdmi

I had post purchase dissonance on the power amp the moment I clicked "pay" on the payment gateway (wish I'd gone for 2 x xpa-3, or at least 2 x upa1 + upa-5).

anything more would have been overkill since I would need to get the sanctioned load of my house changed. (I have 4KW sanctioned load in my apartment) xpa 2+xpa5+ projector + sources + ac would have maxed out the load at my house.. it's not so much an affordability thing as it is a practicality thing for my small mumbai flat.

however, as discussed, first impressions of the UPa-7 are really positive and even uncalibrated, it is a joy to listen to.

i am having Wharf 8.4 Tower, 8 centre & 8 DFS........I only wanted to check weather can i connect my Sony Receiver (Which have DVD player) to my Denon receiver...........so that i can play DVD,s also.....presently i am playing movies thro my Seagate HD media player ....but for this every time i need to copy the movie to hard disk...

OK..,If your Sony has spdf out(co-ax OR optical) ,then yes.I can see it has analoge out,so you can connect by stereo & miss true surr.
Otherwise get pionner DVDp & enjoy Denon...

Got Denon RCD M38 with Denon SC M37 speakers for my mom. Quite an impressive package, no nonsense dedicated cd player and the speakers pack the required punch. Easy to operate even for my mom at her age. We both liked it so much that I am now on the lookout for a dedicated cd player (refer thread started by me).

Hemant - Can you specify what warrentee? I checked with ebay and they dont offer any warrantee. But price is same and the batteries Japan make, charger - China with VAT bill.
I do see that Eneloop has some good reviews!

kaas i could have helped u to save money.. i grabbed camelion charger for -------------180Rs , Enloop will b 600 for six , no bills , have u ever seen people giving batteries for servicing !
