Good that you finally bought the TX-SR608. Now sit back and enjoy.
Nice purchase. Would have been better if you'd have picked SR80 at least. But still in the budget its a very potent combo. Congrats.View attachment 4686

Hi All HFVans,
I just completed my 4.1 setup (without the center) with Yamaha RX-V667 + QA 2020 fronts + QA2010 rears + Velodyne Impact 12 sub. I bought the velo sub, all my speaker cables (bandridge) from Lokesh. I must also join the bandwagon to praise him....He is such a nice man to deal with and so honest in his opinions, it was a pleasant business dealing with him. On QAcoustics, I auditioned with Decibel Chennai (Raghu is another nice person to deal with - he is honest as well). Just when I was trying to buy from him, the group buy helped me buy it through HFV. I must say QAcoustics felt a lot better than the MS Aviano1 BS, especially in unmuffled dialogues. I dont have any specific complaints agains MS Aviano1, though - those were such sweetly sounding speakers too. One advantage I could directly have with QA was that I auditioned it with RX-V667 and liked the sound immediately (may be personal choice). I took a gamble in going for 2020 (as suggested by Raghu - I audition 2010s only) and definitely it has paid back. 2020 has a better bass response apart from handling mids with considerable elan and sounds so clean that I dont even miss my center speaker not to mention how they fill my room (20 x 15). 2010s are good for rears (this is the thing that I last configured unfortunately due to shortage of speaker cables that I bought) and they fit in well there. Would I have considered 2010s for the fronts? If I had, I would have probably made a mistake (Thanks Raghu of Decibel for his suggestion). They may not have sufficiently filled the room (with decent volumes say -12dB SPL) - probably worth a point to note if people are buying 2000 cinema package (that comes only with 2010s). All the speakers are wall mounted with 2000WB wall brackets - they are convenient with sufficent swivel and tilt, but felt the center plastic is...well more plasticky and fragile. QA could have added more steel to it.
One last word on the Velo Impact 12 Sub. Boy, the sub really roars with movies. It has a cleaner much fuller bass with downfiring ports (havent heard port noise so far - may be I must try more). I thought I may have to use the plugs (in case they were boomy), no sir!! no need of sand and plugs... I tried DTS sound (Avatar and Jurassic Park) and the sound really scared my kids away . I bought it for 25K (+600 shipping) from Lokesh and consider the sub a big VFM. I could have gone with QA 2070s - but I read too many issues with that having to replace - so I save some hassle there. During the audition, the QA2070 sub didnt even show its presence when music was played (again, it's personal opinion). Moreover, the Velo comes with 5 yrs warranty (talk about VFM again). The velo has two rca inputs for the line level. This means your sub cable has to have both red & white RCA at the speaker end. Not that this is essential - the alternative of increasing the volume in the receiver (so that the auto on functions well) was disgusting to me.
Cables: I used bandridge 14 AWG for fronts, 16 AWG for rears, a local Sub cable and a local Y Splitter cable all fetched from Lokesh. I am not quite sure if Audio quest cable would have improved the sub experience - I am happy with the current performance.
Connectors: MX Banana gold plated plugs at the receiver end (had to pull the plug out using a forcep from the receiver for the bananas to fit in) and bare termination at the speaker ends. Bought a decent quality stripper tool (for around 250 - 300 INR) with AWG markings (from Sara, ritchie street, Chennai) and felt worth an investment, didnt lose a strand in many terminations (except for me cutting the edges).
Bought Belkin Gold surge protector and for now connected both sub and receiver to it. Its taking it well. My special thanks to Kittu of HFV (for changing my mind from a HTIB to Sat speaker system to BS - though it mean some extra bucks out of my pocket), Venkat CR on suggesting cables, Lokesh on suggesting many things, Raghu for suggesting speakers with an open mind (though he deals with QA).
Had to do some ugly splicing due to shortage of cables - so far didnt notice losses - but can someone suggest a long term solution without soldering?
