Post your latest AV purchase(s)......

Have been on a festive spree like many others:

a. Exchanged my 11 year old Yamaha RX-V520 for a shiny black Denon 2311 which was on sale. Obviously, the 2311 is long in the tooth now, doesn't do fancy stuff like Airplay, but man it sounds good! I have Jamo floorstanders which can do 140w continuous and I guess I really was not driving them well with the old amp. And then I would sit and wonder why these speakers sounded so good in the demo room but not at home. Kept blaming it on the sound treatment in the demo room (as opposed to the glass and vinyl floor at home!) I can now hear the swish of coats or the fake footstep sounds they put in movies. :clapping: On a different note, have to give it to Yamaha - the amp lasted for so long and the only thing I ever had to do was get the protection circuit fuse replaced coz I blew it once :D
Price: Rs.45000 under exchange

b. Added some thump with a new Klipsch SW450. I needed something that could beat out my towers, especially on music. Always easier to get movie bass coz the effects are loud but am enjoying the way this sub sounds with tough music like U2 or Gin Blossoms where the bass comes and goes fast. Like the feet of this sub too with the little pads they provide in the box.
Price: Rs.33000

Cheers

Dear All,

Hi My name is Bandan and am new to HiFiVision.

I have an onkyo AVR 603 which is mated to sonodyne sonus 5.1 speaker system. I have been using this system for more than 5 years and had a fairly good response, but with changing inputs/ ourputs like HDMI 1.4 / USB etc my AVR looks out dated.

I want to buy a new AVR and am confused as to buy just the AVR ( Which One ) or the complete Bose Acoustimass 15 III and mate it with Onkyo 616. This system is to be hooked to my projector and has to cater to 450 sq ft area.

Kindly help.

Regards

bandan

Hey, do post your impressions of the 500s!

Here you go.

Came well packed in these boxes. The boxes had to be turned upside down to remove the speakers.

One needs to attach the supplied support/stand before removing the speakers from the box.

These are my first floor standers. :yahoo:

Out of the box...

Sleek! Blends in perfectly with the room.

Bought a vertex 3kva audio grade servo stab from vertex @14k. This is after reading numerous threads on the forum on ups vs servo stab which gave me no conclusive answer. This is one heavy stabilizer!

KEFs Q 500. So it's been a few weeks of listening to the beauty and i thought i'd share a little with the forum. I have mostly spent time listening to HD content on tata sky. little time has been spent on listening to music and watching Blu Ray. Here are my initial observations; It sounds natural and deep. i'd say it's suited for a listening distance of around 10'. The bass is tight. if you are a bass guy, then you'll need to invest in separate sub woofer. The high frequencies are just right, they aren't too bright and blends in beautifully. While i loved progressive rock and rap rock.

Congrats on your buy! I've not seen another FM with the Q500

I've been using KEF Q500 for quite some time for pure music listening with Marantz Int. Amplifier. As you had mentioned, this is the floorstander for small rooms and can be used instead of BS speakers. Bass is tight and more than sufficient for my sort of music and volume levels though :) Just make sure that the tweeter-Mid woofer line is at your ear level, since the Q500 is smaller in size compared to other FS.
