Post your latest AV purchase(s)......

Hi, Got a pair of cambridge audio S30s from avbazaar.in, price 8200 + shipping, dark oak color. will get them by friday, planning to use them with my topping.

@gilfredpaul, I remember the vendor saying something around 54k for the model you specified. Not sure if I heard correct (about the model) and 546 is not available yet it seems. Unfortunately I have not got the cdp yet as there was holiday yesterday and hopefully I might get it today (less chances though due to the all India strike)

Hi everyone,

I am new entrant in this forum and quite enthused by gr8 information shared by all audiophiles.

I happened to browse this website for a query.......

Sony HT -M5 versus
Yamaha RXV371 AV receiver with 5.1 wharfedale Moviestar 60plus surround speakers

Which is a better buy?
My reqt.
1. room size 4X5m
2. To be connected to Sony LCD 32inches
3. primary purpose 50% of the times output from HD channels on TV
30% music play and 20% DVD watch.

Price Sony 49K vs Yamaha+ 39K

Dilemma: Wharfedale speakers are one of the best as I have reviewed on net but this model is probably discontinued now. How does it affect the sound quality?
space constraint with Sony HT-M5.

I am in chandigarh so not many options available other than these (HK+JBL or Yamaha ror SOny/LG etc.)

Would be grateful for quick replies and suggestions.

Regards
Dr Jain

hello everyone?

Looking forward to a reply. I hope this is the right forum to put a question to?

But the wrong thread if you have noticed :p .. but I guess it should be ok or that ll be fixed... :)

But I guess it will be a unanimous vote in favor of the Later .. ie the Yamaha RXV371 AV receiver with 5.1 wharfedale Moviestar 60plus surround speakers.. IF the speaker that you mentioned are discontinued.. the next model available in the market should do good too in comparison....

but heres the catch..FYI..
1. Not all audio from the STBs ie Airtel, Tata Sky etc is 5.1
only a few channels in TS and Airtel I guess..may be some others providers tooo.. I dont know exactly about the rest...

2. Music is supposed to be heard in stereo ie 2.0 or 2.1 ( the way some of us like).. because thats the way most(There are exceptions ..) of the music is recorded :)

3. DVDs watch yes a 5.1 is the way to go .. and again.. there the Yam+Warf makes sense both for price and QUALITY... (Thats what we all a lookin for here :))

Hope this helps in some way at least!!!

Thanks dear for saying what I wanted to hear. Wharf 60plus is available at Yamaha store only but it was at website of wharf as well one dealer in India from where i gathered that 60 plus is probably discontinued.
How to ensure that wharf is original?
Someone from Sony store suggested me that if you want to hear the stereo sound for the Cable, in BDV-E690, only one HDMI cable will do the job as the blue ray player has some decoder and the sound effect that i will get will have 5.1 effect.
If we chose any other player/receiver, the sound from TV (whether cable or camcorder or laptop) will have to be taken out thru AV cable only or thru optical (which is incidentally not available in my set box or TV). Is this true?

Looking forward for reply.

Thanking once again for replying to first query!!

Dear all
Got my first true HT.
Yamaha 371 AV receiver 21k
Wharfedale Moviestar 60+ 5.1 surround speakers 18k
WIll get installed in a day or two.
tested this set versus YHT 296.
Both sound soft to ears, not very heavy bass, clarity of high and mid is wonderful.
Wharfedale sounded more compact meaning sounds were crisper probably better becoz of wooden enclosure ensuring forward throw and played louder/clearer at lower volumes.

Will keep posted on my experience with this system in real time at my home,(where it matters the most)

Keep posting.

Congratz DR Jain!! have a good time!!!!
We need all the Docs to get their mental peace to work well on fixing our pieces back together :D

Just landed :) , picked up in the US.

Have a question, does this need a step down transformer at all or I simply pick up one of those multi region plugs and use it?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
