Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

LED model F8000 is much better than this garbage plasma.. this looked very dull .. SD channels looked washed out with full lights on .. even in HD bluray LED outperforms plasma

also plasma panel will turn more dull after 1year .. so better sell after 3 months ... and get F8000 or W950 .. as many companies dumping plasmas .. from manufacturing .. better to get rid of them as soon possible .. later wont have service centers of plasma.

@ Invisible - So you are claiming that a brighter picture is a better picture. You cannot be more wrong.
No LED can match the black levels of a plasma. Simply because of way plasma technology works. LED,s would always look grey compared to an inky black plasma. Even direct lit LED Tvs.
Secondly contrast ratio. If you know what a contrast ratio is then you would know that a plasma has a far superior contrast ratio compared to a LED. Then there are things like motion blur and viewing angle which the plasma is obviously better at .
Now if you think that the plasma is dull you are obviously buying the wrong tv set. The plasma is not dull , it is much more brighter than the old crt TUBE tvs but it is definitely not as bright as the current LED. But does any one even need that much brightness. Only if the room is completely lit or has open windows is when all that LED brightness would come into use.
So in short , before you go on claiming what is good and what is bad , why dont you first understand what is the right kind of technology for your requirements. You are obviously harping over things you dont understand.

Guys, Good news, Got a call from Samsung in the morning that they would replace my tv with another brand new boxed piece. Some folks from the replacement team visited home in the afternoon. They dropped a brand new box again Nov 2013 manufactured at home and took away the earlier tv along with accessories and the packing.

Would call for installation tomorrow and see how it goes. Hopefully this one would not exhibit the same issues, keeping my fingers crossed.

Congrats again.

Got a follow up call from Samsung, they are setting up the installation tomorrow morning. Let's hope everything goes well and i am sure this TV would also come with 1111.2 firmware version. Hopefully it should work out fine.

Good luck- just wish these companies would take such problems seriously, right from the start, not having a customer run from pillar to post, especially when the product is among their high end items.

Got reply from them

The answer is yes I normally use a spectra cal c3 colorimeter and a video forge pattern generator.

We can do projectors,LCD/LED TVs and almost all Projectors and TV's

Thanks, hope so i am keeping my fingers crossed. What's the current firmware on your Tv ? is it 1111.2 as that's the latest one being shown on Samsung website.

Yes, it is 1111.2. The OTA firmware upgrades take time to reach us, that's the reason the TV says that it has the latest firmware when you try upgrading the firmware whereas the firmware you see in Samsung's website is a different one. Upgrade via USB solves this issue.

Cheers, Ravi

Well currently the firmware on TV and samsung india site is same. Globally it is behind.

India: 1111.2 (Release Date 18 Nov)
UK: 1112.6 (Release Date 13 Nov)
US: 1112.4 (Release Date 2 Sep)

Maybe all 3 are the same and just the naming convention is different. As it is difficult to find out what each firmware update is changing or adding. Or you need to go through the long thread on AVS and read.

May I know where you compared these TVs and under what condition? I have personally seen both side by side for almost an hour where we played, HD content, SD content, 3D and we all felt 8500 was def better than 950 when it comes to colour reproduction and natural colours. Only in 3D 2 out 5 felt 950 was better than 8500 but in SD and HD all of us felt 8500 was marginally better.

Both are excellent TVs but to state fake reviews, buying mistake etc seems to be a tall claim.

The last price we got was 1.82 lakhs in Chennai and I did not notice any buzz

There are always some who will have opinions the way they are put - in both camps. But saying that expert reviews are all fake is going to the extreme.
