Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

It appears from the photos that a wrong mode or tweak was done.
The colors appear fake. The color of sky is fake in the first photo for example.

grow up.. welcome to the sony's triluminous colors :yahoo:

sky is real sky in sony .. forget old led, plasma colors

In any case whether the colours of your Sony are good or not is not the topic being discussed. You have not even seen the F8500 and even so choose to talk trash about it. This is the F8500 discussion thread so lets please stick to that.

Hi . Just upgraded from my 4 yr old Panasonic 42 inch plasma to this 64 inch behemoth ... After experiencing plasma tech from past 4 yrs cud not even think of considering led. ...... Have clocked over 200 hrs. Can someone suggest best picture settings for a tubelit room ... though I know that picture settings preferences might differ from person to person but its always nice to know some kind of reference settings if available ....

pictures look very dim.. avoid it .go for LED

Piss poor viewing angles, garbage real time black levels, pathetic image depth, fail triluminous technology which adds no meaningful improvement, handicapped technology which needs back light to display half decent image, over saturated colors and plastic non film like appearance, quick throw this thing in the garbage or hide under your bed for better picture.

so does this mean when it rains in a video your television becomes wet and water pours from the display panel?

Guys: Honestly, in my experience neither photos or videos are a good comparison. They depend on a lot of variable parameters, equipment, etc. The best possible comparison is side by side with both displaying same content with optimum setting.

We did that a month back for almost an hour. Black levels are definitely better in F8500 while gaming was better in W950. I felt colors were much natural in F8500 but some of my friend liked W950's colors though they also said Samsung was most natural. This was clear when we viewed HD pictures. I felt 3D was better in W950.

Both are very good television. It boils down to an individual and what they like. Some may like the natural plasma some may like the bright LEDs, its purely a personal choice. There is no one winner in this, for example W950 is a winner for Invisible because it meets his needs whereas F8500 is winner for this thread guys because it meets their need.

So put a stop to this bickering and if you have any technical data to add, please do, but not images, videos, or some over the top statements.

Longshanks: Lets not get choosy with our language calling illiterates etc

I use the movie mode with cell light set at around 15 and contrast at 85, the rest should be according to your room lighting condition because that is the key. Also i turn of all unwanted processing so the image looks as less processed as possible.

Hi, I'm looking forward to buy 64 inch set.. Can I get the details of the dealer where u got that deal.. I'll pick it up right away.. Could you please me the details or phone number
Thanks

Hi All,

After months of research I purchased the 64 inches plasma yesterday. I got a great deal, 1.70 L including the sound bar. I have not opted for the sound bar and I got a further discount of 8K, so I ended up paying 1.62 L, the TV will be delivered today. If any one is genuinely interested buying the TV in Hyderabad please get in touch with me and I'll share the contact details of the person who got me this deal.

I would request the owners in this forum to confirm if the usage hours code works (Mute, 7, 3, 7, OK) and of any of you have checked it on your TV!

I have decided to buy a 3 years extended warranty once the TV is installed.

I still have the option of picking up the sound bar by paying 8K. Please advise if it is worth spending.

I also got a 51F5500 for a friend of mine for 65K including the free blue ray player. I think he also got it for a steal !

Thanks to all the members in this forum for their inputs/ feedback on the TV, your inputs have greatly helped me in taking a decision.

Regards.

No offense meant, but the colours in the photographs (the Samsung bunch) look over saturated. They do not look natural. It is almost like colour bleeding.

You are most welcome to correct me if I am wrong.

No they are not over saturated, the color is set well below the half way mark, the tone is a bit warm and that is how i like to watch movies, if you compare the brighter colors from the toy story and football match screen shots of the kuro and Samsung screen shots you will notice that it appears lighter than kuro.

Color bleeding is a totally different thing and none of the images i posted have color bleeding, some images are a bit blurry because i took these pics with the cam held in my hand.if there is bleed it will be easily noticeable in lighter backgrounds where the colors might look spread.

example of color bleeding.

Did anyone pic up the extended warranty on the 64" Plasma. Today i got a call from the folks who collect the cheque and give the extended warranty. The breakup they have given is below for 3 years warranty extension.

Basic price: 12600-00RS
VAT: 14.5% 1827-00RS
Service tax:12.5% 1557-00RS
TOTAL: 15984-00RS

Total cost is nearly coming 16k. Earlier i was told it would be around 14k.
If anyone has gone for the extended warranty on 64f8500. Please share the exact cost incurred and breakup of the same.

Now i am having second thoughts on spending 16k. Also in case of non part availability they would eventually buyback the product on depreciation. This is the same thing they did for my OOW tv. So the process for in warranty tv without parts is not much different.

I think if you are in warranty they have to either service you or replace with new tv.But not in case of without warranty, you will get less amount only. You need to beg them and wait for their actions in case of w/o warranty,if you have warranty ,they will act soon and give the replacement tv swiftly. You are ready to buy 2laks tv and not ready for spending additionally 16k is not justifiable that too for own good.Think again and get extended warranty and led life aramse.

The extended warranty document clearly has a clause that in case of non availability of parts, if they are not able to repair the TV they would buy back the same as per depreciation policy valid at that time.

Also i have gone through this process earlier with Samsung as they did not have parts for my OOW tv, which they bought back as ideally for 5 years from date of purchase they would service and support your tv regardless if it is in warranty or not. The process was smooth thought it took some time, i did not chase them for follow up also.

If anyone else has gone for extended warranty for this model would be interesting to know. How much they paid and what was the breakup. As somehow i feel the service tax is too high.

Hi guys, any idea where i can get to see the 64f8500 on display in Chennai, I've tried a few shops and they don't have them on display? I've inquired about the price, most places are stating 200000 or 212000?
