Search for entry level floorstanders : Dali Zensor 7

He usually deals with big shots/ film stars & such. So pricing can be in accordance to that section of society, but then you can always tell him what you are looking for & what is your budget ;)

@poppy - The drivers in these look huge! If you've auditioned these, I have a feeling you'd feel a bit disappointed with my Pioneers :)

Hi Grunthos,
I was planning a similar setup like you (AVR+FS). And I have prioritized Zensor 7 first in my audition list. Your post helps me a lot. Thanks :)

They are awesome speakers. If you are a little constricted on the the budget, the Zensor 5's are damn good too.

@poppy if you are willing to spend that much, try to see if you can get audiition of Cambridge Audio 551R. The sound quality of CA is much better than Denon/Yamaha and arguably Marantz. CA is also unfortunately overpriced in India. If my budget permitted it, I'd have paired the Dali with the 551R

Sorry to post this again but CA is out of my budget I am looking in between 50 - 60k. And then it comes down on Marantz SR 6007 and Denon X2000. My confusion is there is not much on SR 6007 compare to X2000 on AV sites. Secondly the price between SR 5007 and SR 6007 is almost same on HiFiMart ?and on Marantz us site SR 6007 is not mentioned anywhere. Can u pl guide I had posted the same on amp forum in the morning but some 30+ views but no reply.
And sorry i forgot to mention Thanks in begainin because of ur review I was able to finalise on speaker front going with Dali zensor 7 5.1.

I have to declare I am no expert on the subject. From what little reading I did, the difference seems to be in their zone 2 playback and design of on screen menus. Otherwise they seem to be equally matched. If you are not going to play in a separate room (Zone 2 is for that), you can go with either.

The internet is convinced the Marantz line sounds sweeter/musical than Denons. But to counter that, hifi dealers in Mumbai trash Marantz saying support doesnt exist. I think you should check with the Marantz dealer with India about service support - MZ Global in Bandra. MZ can also arrange for demos with Denon. Maybe having an audition for the two AVRs there would help you decide

Thanks chief somehow I also had a sweet feeling towards Marantz than Denon. And anyway i will use this as 5.1 not going to use zone2 as of now .lets see in future if i feel like additional than will think at that time. Spoke to MZ and they assured that service part not to worry as they are not new in this distribution .
once again thanks for the reply

I am torn between Zensor 7 & Zensor 5. I live in a room size of 300 Sq feet, and listening area not more than 7 feet. My priority is 60% music 40% movies, Will Zensor 7 be a little bit over powered for my usage? Since my listening area is not more than 7 feet will that in anyway produce bad sound stage muddy bass etc, Kindly share your inputs.

If you have just 7 feet of listening distance, then you should go for the Zensor 5

Zensor 7 would be an overkill and might sound a little boomy
Also, Zensor 7 is more enjoyable in movie mode because of the bigger drivers and more power. If you are more into music, you'll love the Zensor 5s just as much and you'd save some 15k in the process.

Why not buy a good bookshelf instead if your listening space is small? They are way easier to optimize for bass. If you must have a Dali, check the mentor menuet. Its a good speaker at a reasonable price.

I just checked the specs of Zensor 5 & 7, I see that none of these speakers have magnetic shielding, Won't that pose a problem for placing the speaker right in the sides of the TV screen?

I'd never heard of magnetic shielding before *sheepish*

But Google suggests that only CRT tvs are affected by magnets in the speakers. LCD/Plasma is not affected

Recently i have bought onkyo NR727 and started looking for a pair of FS. Polk RTi A5/A7 were high in my list as i watch movies more than i listen to music. But after reading your wonderful review, i am thinking to go with Dali 5/7. Do you think Dali FS will sound the same with Onkyo as they did with Denon? I have to search for Dali dealers in Hyderabad and hope they will have Onkyo for audition.

Congratulations on the Onkyo

If you have some more brands in consideration (like KEF, Wharfedale etc) do the first round of auditions with a AVR like Denon X1000. Most Indian hifi shops seem to stock Denon and it will allow you to keep the amp constant and evaluate only the speakers. Once you have narrowed down your shortlist to 2-3 speakers like I did, carry your own AVR to the store to check that they gel well with the speakers

Dali's Indian distributor are Kripa India. Their website has a list of dealers and I am pretty sure they have one in Hyd.
[Edit] It seems Kripa India are no longer distributors - Dali website now lists Audio One, Mumbai as their distributor. The Dali official website carries details about 12 dealers in India. The Hyd dealers are

[Edit]

The Dali Zensor sound is very sweet/musical. They are bound to impress you with their music playback. If you have noticed, 4-5 forum members have chosen the Zensors, just like me, in the last 2 months. However since you specifically mention movies, look at 7 instead of 5. The bigger drivers on the 7 produce that big sound that makes movies more fun.

I have zeroed in on Monitor Audio BX5 & Zensor 5 need further advice. My usage is 60% music & 40% movies.I have auditoned the zensor 5 loved its musical range but yet to test it for movies. I heard from whathifi reviews that zensor 5 bass lacks certainty what does that mean? Moreover I am looking for a more balanced speaker,Between Zensor 5 & MA BX 5 which would you consider as a more balanced speaker?Which has more dynamic range? Considering the specs I am more inclined towards BX5 since it has a larger cabinet(more bass),bigger drivers, better specs( speaker sensitivity, ohms, etc) But I love the killer looks of Dali just need few more reasons to join Club Dali.

Something I've learnt from seniors at the forum here - give importance to how the speaker sounds. Nothing else (specifications, reviews etc) matters. Ok price also matters :D

I havent read the Whathifi review that you mention, but from my auditions of Dali Zensor 5 and 7, the 5 has a more tight bass. The 7, with it's bigger bass, is slightly wooly (but only oh-so-slightly). And balance isnt an issue at all with the Zensor 5 or BX5 - both are very balanced. The Klipsch RF-52 and the Polks, for example, are not as balanced - Klipsch being too bright and Polks having overpowering bass

From your post, it wasnt clear if you've auditioned the BX5 - have you heard it yet? Carry the same media and listen each song twice on both speakers. It should be apparent which one is better. Movies-wise, I did not think there was a big difference - there isnt a case of selecting the Zensor 5 over the BX5 or vice versa for their movie playback prowess.

Trust your ears on this one. BX5 is a very good speaker so you wouldnt go wrong with it. But I think Dali Zensors trump it in the musicality/detail

Denon X1000 works well with Zensor 7 or a step up to X2000 is recommended?

I assume you are referring to power. Denon X1000 more than easily drives the Zensor 7

The only reason you want the X2000 is for 7.1 and zone 2 capability. The X2000 also has the capability to upconvert analog video to HD in digital - useful only if you have something in old format.
