Sony Bravia KDL W700B - Buyers Thread

Hi ,
Very good discussions so far. Getting a great push for W700B, just a couple of queries -

1) Will 32" or 42" be the best bet for this model ?
2) I am also caught between this model and Samsung F5140 and F5500. Overall did not find any significant difference except the smart TV of Samsung has more features and apps. But I am more particular about PQ and great performance. Any feedback would help a lot in deciding also considering the price factor.

Also heard very good f/b on Panasonic. Not sure though overall.

Also buyers in bangalore, what was the best price you have got for this model and any specific store ?

Sandeep

Everyone talks about the Pros of this TV and hardly for Cons. Let me put some of the points which I read from the buyers/owners of 42W700B.

1. Screen Mirroring - Its useless for the iPhone and Samsung phones. Only supports Sony Experia models or any device has NFC.

2. USB Play - above 500 GB its pain to search and watch the muvee from HDD via USB. no folder vice view and sometimes it is not recognising the 1 TB and above HDD.

3. YouTube - No buffering memory available to buffer using YouTube.

4. Sound - so far i have heard not much impression u need separate audio systems.

Please feel free to correct me and update the status on current software has fixed these issues.

No issues with screen mirroring it's effort less with my Samsung galaxy s4

Regarding 32 / 42 inch; if budget is not a constraint then go for 42 inch. (I have the 42)
This also depends upon the distance between tv and our viewing but for a modest room size 42 should be fine. Note, it is always better to get a slightly bigger tv than regretting later.

Regarding sony/samsung/panasonic --> my opinion is sony has the best natural colours. So go for Sony.
TV is for viewing, most of the time we watch tv or movies on it. Other features like extra app etc should not be a key criteria for decision. And Sony has all these features since it has WIFI & DLNA which would suffice all requirements. Just my thoughts.

One more thing. If you have photos (soft copies with a good resolution), then you will re-live those moments with your family via Sony. I was simply amazed when I did this for the first time on my tv. There is one small setting in the menu. When we switch on that, the photos really come alive compared to the default setting. The photos simply flip thru on the screen one by one with soft music and we just need to sit on our sofa.

Re-living those moments on the big screen along with the family is a beautiful experience.

Hi
How to remove the "unsupported content" message during the video playing permanently... its displays each movie.

is there any software available to convert any FULL HD video to play in the BRAVIA tv without the "unsupported content" message.

Hi Guys,

I need a help for this... i bought the sony bravia kdl-w700b.. and i have more collection of personal videos which took from mobile. All are 4K videos. I am unable to watch these in the full HD tv... is there any solution there to watch those 4K videos in my Sony...?

Hi friends... I am new to this forum...bought sony 32w700b just 5 days back .Today when i checked the usages time it showed 00022-00073-00031.what's the meaning of this .....plz elaborate... And thanks in advance....

I was reading this thread as I was considering this TV.

I noticed that all members have mentioned that this is not a 3D TV. However, when I searched for "3D internet tv" on Sony website, it shows this TV. In specifications it also shows "3D comb filter=Yes".

I want a 3D internet TV so if this one doesn't have it then I'll strike it off from the list.

Also in above post under cons, it is mentioned that this TV doesn't have buffering memory for YouTube. Do sets from LG/Samsung/Panasonic have it?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Folks! Recently got this TV. Youtube 1080p vids and everything else plays flawlessly.

Planning on getting Bluetooth headset so that I can keep the neighbours at bay. Any suggestions on the best bluetooth headsets around?

I am on the verge of buying a tv soon but still in a confusion of Sony 42w700b and Samsung 40H5500.
Samsung is also providing a Skype camera along with that model.
Can someone help me in providing pros and cons of Sony over Samsung model.
My first choice is Sony though.

@r00tin
I have the same model of Sony. You will agree that colors are more natural in sony, as compared to others. The menu is also having a soft feel. Dont get tempted by skype camera, u wont be using skype so much and just the camera should not wave your inclination.

Hi vijayrk,
press 'option' on the tv remote.
now select 'scene select' or 'sound' something that has many sub options.
you will see the notification is gone.
now press 'return' to watch to video content normally. (you don't need to actually change anything)

hope this helps.

Hey buddy.. i demoed these two models recently.
PQ wise both are good... viewing angles are defiantly superior in Samsung.

Though Samsung is 40" it looks like 32" - i mean it looks very small.
On other hand SONY has perfect 42" size and better PQ.

Blindly go with SONY.. Samsung is not worth it as it looks very small.
Don't fall for Camera :D If size looks ok then go with Samsung.

All the best and make the wise decision.

Thanks Guys... One more dilemma .. Came across W900b too costing 80k wile W700b is 65k. So is it worth buying a 3D TV considering a difference of 15k with maybe some extra features too.
And how do you guys go on about bargaining the price. I asked almost every shop in Rajkot and they are not ready to give below 65k

@r00tin

I had also checked out 900b since it was in the same showroom but it was out of my budget. I did not audition 900b in much details since I had almost finalized the 700b model in my mind. My opinion is, we don't see 3d so much, so just the 3d feature should not be our criteria for buying 900b. Also i think we have to buy glasses separately for each person who would want to watch 3d, and those glasses are not cheap.

Regarding the picture quality of 900b, i think the panel / the front glass is different compared to 700b. Not sure, the picture quality may be, (i am saying may be) better than 700b. In that case you may think of going for 900b.

Regarding the price, same thing. Very less option to bargain in case of Sony. The dealer will say if there were other models, then bargaining can be thought of, but for sony it is difficult. But yes, experts may be able to get a bargain :-).

900B is superior than 700B and its totally worth it.. if you can afford then close your eyes and just go with it.

Did you check W850B?

Consider PASSIVE 3D over ACTIVE..
If you watch 3D frequently then go with PASSIVE.. however if you are not a 3D enthusiastic then you can go for ACTIVE. :ohyeah:

Hi Guys. I shall be buying this TV during this Diwali/Dhanteras time. And since it will consume most of my Diwali Budget, i cannot buy a HTS right now. Hence i will be using my Edifier DA5000Pro with it.

I wanted to know if the rear panel of the W700B has 5.1 RCA connectors. If not, what other way could i connect my analogue 5.1 speakers to the TV so that i can enjoy Tata Sky HD, PS3, etc?

Thanks and cheers,

Anirban

Hi!!
I am new to the forum and have pretty much gone through all the posts here. I was just wondering whether people who got their W700 TVs, did it have W70B written on the box or is W700B written?
Would appreciate a quick reply as the TV has been delivered at my place, however the payment has not been made yet and shall be made tomorrow. Mine says W70B and I don't whether it is normal and if it isn't, is it something to be worried about or should I just go ahead with the transaction.
Also, I am getting it for ~55K here in Gurgaon for those who live in Delhi/NCR and who are planning to get one.
Like quite a few other people here, the choice was between this and H5500 and I chose this one as it was the cheaper option and I trust Sony to deliver. Plus all the reviews I read here, really helped me make that choice.

^ Yes, i think its normal to be written as 70B. I've not seen this but, I've seen that W900B is being written as W90B. Other 700b users will confirm u shortly.

Btw, Congrats... you did chose the best among these range !!!
