Sony Bravia KDL W700B - Buyers Thread

flatpanelshd review of the sony w8....they have also given the calibrated settings for w8....since w8 is same as w7 but with 3D you can try these settings for w7....
Sony W8 (2014) review - FlatpanelsHD

Note: Some picture profiles are enabled through the System Settings menu not the Display menu. Our suggested calibration settings are for dark room use. In a brighter room you might want to select a picture profile with a higher brightness level or select the Warm1 color temperature in the Cinema mode. Gamma should also be 0 instead of -1 during daytime.

Hi

Can anybody let me know how is the performance w.r.t external hard disk connectivity. I have a 2TB seagate hard disk. Will this be easily detected by the TV. Have heard some TVs have issues in detecting high sized disks.. Is that the case with this TV as well??

I have posted the same query in Panny e6d thread. These are the two TVs that I have shortlisted.. would be great if anybody can address this...

Hi Guys,

I have confusion regarding 32" SONY W700B and Panasonic AS610D.

What about review for Sony and what about angle it is maintaining?

Panasonic AS610D is not FULL HD.

it is only HD.

And one more thing if we see our HD channels in FULL HD TV and HD tv is there any difference?

OR There is a difference arise when we see only FULL HD MOVIE OR any FULL HD channels?

Waiting for your suggestions.

Thanks.

I bought it from Ahmedabad, Gujarat for 62K.
i have checked with Croma, Reliance but didn't get lower price than 63K
Even Sony Centre told me to take this TV for 64K and not lower than this...
Finally I got it from one of the Sony dealer in the town for 62K. - Got bill for full 64.9K(he told me that they can not offer anything below than 64.9K which is MOP)

Looking at the box packed fresh TV - I am OK with 62K Cost.
Hi,

Can you please give me address of that dealer in ahmedabad.

I am thinking to buy it.

Thanks

are you talking about headphone out jack? that is 2.1 output ?

I want to get a 5.1 Surround Sound speaker system and connect it to the W700B.

Is there a way to get true 6 channel sound?

The analog audio out on the side will only give two channels. The only other Audio out port is the Digital Optical port on the rear. Can anyone confirm if the Digital audio out gives out 6 channels or 2 channels.

I was thinking of getting the Logitech Z506 system. It will create a virtual surround effect with 2-channel inputs as well.

Open to any suggestions!

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I have bought a Sony KDL32W700B with it I have a TATAsky HD and a Pioneer HTP -072.
The TV and the HT are connected using a HDMI ARC cable. TATAsky is again connected using the HMDI.
I have a Vguard Crystal plus Stabilizer (3amps).

The issue I am facing is, the TV all of a sudden switches off on its own while the other devices still stay on.
I have double checked all the settings and other external possibilities and found no issue.

I even escalated the issue and got a replacement TV, which again is tripping. This trip happens about 3 to 4 times a day.

1)Does any one have an idea as to why this is happening?
2) Are you using a stabilizer with your TV, we believe the stabilizer could be causing the issue.

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried using another power source in the room/ another room? Try that and also check the voltage in your power sockets.

If the replacement is also showing similar signs, this does not seem like an issue with the TV.

I am not using a stabilizer and have not had any issue yet. By all means, try it without the stabilizer. If it works, great. You might also want to check the voltage being put up by the stabilizer. If there are irregularities, I'd suggest getting a new one, or at least having it looked over by a TV/elec tech.

You could always ask the Sony service center to send a tech to your house to check things out. The guy who came to install my TV knew what he was doing.

I have a WD500 passport with a lot of Movies and TV Series stored on it. It takes the TV about a minute or two to discover the content and then it slowly loads all thumbnails and captions on the screen.

Alternatively, connecting my Sandisk 32GB with a single movie/file doesn't take any time at all.

I am unsure if there is a size cap to the HDD size that the TV can work with, but I can definitely say that the time it takes to resolve the content increases with the number of items you have on the disk.

Thank you for your reply.

I have checked nd tested all options. The Sony personnel did visit my place and he was clueless, the multimeter showed that the power coming is was ideal.

How safe is it to use without the Stabilizer because from my understanding this model does not have an inbuilt stabiliser.

As I understand, the TVs power brick has a voltage regulator along with the AC-DC converter. That should be enough is most cases (I hope). But I could be wrong here.

Half of the time electronic appliance dealers try to shove voltage regulators into everyone's bill.

Do you have issues with voltage spikes/drops at your place?

Try checking the DC output voltage that the power brick is giving out. It should be almost regular without any significant changes.

Hi,

Finally bought 42W700B for 60K here..

I have a question on viewing angle.. does anyone feel picture turns much whiter if you look from side than front on in this tv?

Certain things i have noticed after few weeks of usage...i think the firmware update that was posted with source link in some post previously.. is a bit unstable w.r.t to mediaplayer.. I had several occasions where the tv had itself restarted.. while trying to play certain media..could have been media error..but earlier it would say unsupported..and youtube took a long time to load.."smart tvs"

media detection is a PITA..i usually copy the files i want to play to a usb and never used a HDD..
regarding playback from usb...it plays almost all formats...except hi10p x264..or hev5 for that matter

it decodes DTS, dolby digital just fine and i get 5.1 output to my old hometheatre thru the toslink cable for AC3..(toslink doesnt support DTS it seems..which is sad..as the reciver could decode it :/)

though one problem i encounter is..when i connect the HD settop box thru HDMi..it doesnt fully expand to the screen...ie there are small black bars running through the sides..very small one..not as large as 4:3 ratio...but if i connect the same feed thru AV cables..the picture is stretched to full screen as normal..i cant find out a way to get the tv to use full screen, besides the overscan zoom option, this happens to SD feed only...HD channels take up the whole frame as intended
ALso is there anyway to disable the black back ground for the subtitle while playback...its quite annoying..i would rather have borders than background

regarding viewing angles..yeah when you watch it from extreme angles..it loses its colors a bit..but it is expected from a VA panel

I am running with latest firmware Version (PKG2.134GAA) For Asia Pacific and i don't find any issues with it like restart of TV etc...

Yes, UI is bit slow and needs time to refresh content from internet and TV but its OK to wait for few sec.

it plays all movie formats and only denies to play h265 (264 and 1080p both are running without issues)

Subtitles - you have to keep SRT file or sub file in same directory with the same name of the movie file and it supports it without issues.

Wanted to check what is cast screen???.. I have got Moto G, which doesnt support screen mirroring. Is there any other way to duplicate the screen on TV.

finally bought 42 w700b yesterday.i have bought videocon d2h also.hd channels are looking fine but sd channels are looking bad.i have connected the videocon d2h with hdmi cable.any thoughts.
