I had got a quote of 1.46 on Sunday - individual buy. Pm me for details as this is probably below MOP so wont like it to disclose openly.

How is the performance of the SONY HX925 & SONY NX720? I am new to the 3D bandwagon and do not quite understand the Active / Passive advantages etc.

My understanding is the people on this forum 'prefer' passive?? but both the above SONY LEDs are "active".

46HX925 = Rs. 1.5L
46NX720 = Rs. 1.2L

What is the Rs.30K extra for, other than X-Reality PRO chip in the HX925 and the backlighting. Is that worth Rs.30K more? Of course the NX720 has more crosstalk issue as compared to HX925.
Is the Corning Gorilla glass really worth the price premium?

The main advantage of the HX925 is the backlight based local dimming. It also has one of the best if not the best lcd panel tech out there which has class leading performance with both excellent viewing angle and high contrast ratio. It also uses a higher color bit panel.

The X-reality pro again is rated to even be capable of sorting out the low resolution you tube videos, but don't expect miracles.
It also has bit mapping has a library of movie info and applies some sort of pixel by pixel processing not about that since i didn't pay much attention to the processing options.

It also has a high spec motionflow advertised as 800XR which is good for 3d.

You also get a bundled skype camera with HX925,not sure about our indian version you may possibly get a backlight remote.

So yes its easily worth the 30k premium.

Any comments on 'active' / 'passive' 3D technology? Pros & Cons? Somehow, the 'active' makes me question.....with all the digital circuitry (battery operated / USB charged) around your eyes & head.....just thinking like a novice....seems 'passive' with no digital circuitry
(LG LED 3D TVs??) ....seems 'safer'.....but I could be totally off in my thinking.

While i do believe the future is passive 3d tech without any glasses.
But the interm future lcd/plasma tvs from the following companies samsung/sony/panasonic will be active 3d.

For 70% people Passive will be better as

1) Glasses are cheaper
2) There is no flicker
3) Easier on the eyes
4) Comfy glasses

For the rest Active is preferred (including myself) cuz

1) Full 1080p resolution for each eye
2) No jagged edges
3) Atleast for now, better overall PQ.

OH and IMO the LG passive glasses look ugly :D

Thanks. I guess the future passive 3D tech without glasses is the best choice.

But, let me rephrase my question on Active / Passive 3D. With all the electronic circuitry (Active 3D glasses) on the eyes for 2 to 3 hours of continuous movie watching, does anyone think it could be detrimental to ones eyes in the long run? Hence for now passive would be better and good to avoid 'active'? Or it really does not matter?

GeoTracks,

I have auditioned both Passive 3D (LG) and Actve 3D (Sony and Samsung series 7) definately found the LG with the passive technology easy on the eyes while the Sony/Samsung had me pulling of the glasses in a couple of minutes. Just to make sure it wasn't me alone feeling this I made my wife audition the LG and Samsung and being a complete novice she was quick to give a thumbs up to the LG.

Having said that its a personal decision no doubt on your preference to full 3D via Active technology or the slightly watered down version via the passive route BUT more important you need to determine what your main viewing content would be like - 2D or 3D :).

The 46HX925 is a marvellous set with impeccable picture quality. I was able to establish DLNA and stream contents to to it :)

OMG!!!
Where are you both ???????? Where are the pics, and the reviews ???????
And did you checks if your sets have the "crease" ? What is the manufacturing date ?

Oh and another brilliant review on the HX929 here - comparing to a Kuro and "the best LCD picture in a Long time".

To begin with, its a beautiful TV - looks as well as picture quality wise.
Plugged it to TSky+HD box. HD quality channels look brilliant. But to my
surprise, SD channels are also looking fantastic. This is contrary to my
earlier post where I talked about barely watchable SD channels. May be
because in showrooms the signal is split across multiple TVs and hence it
was not looking good.

Out of the box the picture is bright and colourful, adjusted settings in
cinema mode. Now it looks more accurate, pleasing and comfortable to the
eyes.

Tried playing movies via USB, Serviio (DLNA server). Works well. No picture
stuttering even when using wireless-G router.

Youtube client on Sony is never choosing HD quality playback even when its
available. There is no option to choose the quality. If someone else knows
how to make it play HD content then let me know.

Skype camera and video calling is working fine. Camera is wide-angle.

For youtube hd i think its same issue as with Panasonics.
Try the proxy server linked in this http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1253000
I tried and it works with Panasonic.
The favourites part mentioned in that thread does not work (you tube does not store the link in its favourites with hd=1).

Bro, the HX925 is definitely worth the premium it commands, amazing PQ with deep blacks. The upscaled SD quality is looks good and the HD signal quality is amazing.

I have already established DLNA and I am streaming different contents at it without the limitations of the USB playback on SONY. I have downloaded couple of 3D contents and OMG one of the IMAX Ocean World is breath taking.

Currently am using Rizzo's settings which are good in both Day and Night with Ambient Sensor ON. Even the OOTB (out of the box) settings are of good quality.

The crease and blooming is totally a non issue and can be absolutely ignored. I couldn't find it until I purposely reproduced it...IMO that Value Electronics shootout was absolute crap meant totally to put down HX925.

My sets manufacturing date is June2011, also I already updated it to the latest firmware.

PICS will be coming soon.
