Sony HX 820/920 review & discussion

@thetas
congrats on the purchase of HX925,i guess you are the first owner of this tv here in hifivision .

Does your tv has higher viewing angles or its the same as other Sony models, reason i am asking is some owners report of extremely good angles better then IPS displays while some owners report viewing angles on par with other SPVA based tvs.

Thanks Bro. I am not the first, but probably I am the first to put up review and pics :)
HX925 has a extremely high viewing angle. I have one sofa couch which is almost at 155 or 160 degree but still the viewablity is immpecable without much strain or PQ loss.
But that doesn't hold for 3D viewing, 3D viewing off the axis has loss of details and visible cross talk.

I cannot comment with respect to IPS panel as I have no experience with it.

Some more pics...

Nice lots of depth due to the high contrast.

155 to 160 is a lot more then a SPVA panel ,so i guess you have the better panel possibly the sony proprietary Hybrid FPA panel.

Thanks Dude.
I think the Opti-contrast and Gorilla Glass makes the wonders.

When I said 155-160 degree...here is the pic of that angle. Believe me that PQ is great from those angles too.

Thetas is that your laptop down below the TV ? :D

And great pics!!! :) Shows off the PQ very nicely though I wonder why you chose Star Movies HD and not a Bluray to show off the TV in these pics ;)

What 3D movies did you view yet on this beauty?

Yes thats the Laptop which is DLNA configured and which is currently downloading the 3D stuff.
Bro I don't have a BD player as yet to showcase it :p so the current pics from Star Movies HD to suffice.

I have some 3D contents worth couple of hours as of now from IMAX Ocean World which delivers amazing 3D effect, some movies are still being downloaded.

I have established DLNA in between this laptop and HX925...streaming 3D all the way to the HX925 with fantastic quality :D

The HX series along with the NX72 series are the only sony tvs to have the capability to stream 3d movies and if i remember correctly can play 3d movies from USB(only limited format supported).

Hi awesome tv bro. My favorite tv along with Panasonic's VT30. Please put more pics with some light. Thank you. Enjoy your tv.

New member here. I just got my Sony HX 820 a week ago and am loving it. I just upgraded from an old Sony Wega so I am finally current with today's technology. I had a couple questions, and sorry for sounding like such a newb, as I am.

1. do you recommend purchasing extended warranty. i have been reading mixed reviews, mostly negative things about it. however, i do want to protect my investment. i am debating between squaretrade or sony. any stories/opinions.

2. i am in no way an expert. i casually watch blu ray movies once in a while and some sports. the default, out of the box picture is amazing to me already. to a casual viewer, does calibrating tv really make that much of a difference or is it more for the die-hard videophile. i read that the default setting has the tv on vivid, which makes the tv work harder, etc.

3. i have my sony hx 820 connected to a denon av 1312 receiver. I have my sony blu ray connected to the receiver. I have sound through my speakers when I turn on the av and it recognizes my blu-ray, however, can't seem to get the speakers to work if I want to utalize them when i watch tv. I tried toggling the menu to tv speakers to real speakers, however, I get no sound. Any help?

4. can i load mpeg4 filles onto a flash drive and watch it directly from my tv instead of plugging in my macbook pro/dv adapter/hdmi to it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Thanks for

1. Wait till the last moment of purchasing extended warranty
2. Instead of calibrating use different scene modes according to whatever video is playing to adjust accordingly.
3. Sounds like your settings for input sources are not done properly or youre not aware so look into it.
4. Yes you'll be able to play mpeg 4 xiv divx files from usb on tv.
