I got a call from Panasonic Today regarding one some problem i had. So when the topic of the 2013 Plasmas came up, he told me that they will only be launching 55 inches and above models in india, and nothing below that.
Can that be true??

Majority of the buyers will be looking for 42 and 50 inches.
What would be panasaonic's intention with only 55inch release ( > 1L )
I think it can't be true..

Display port is difficult to find. VGA will be there in some cases. However, please do check the specs of the TV that your shortlist. You could go with a tablet which has HDMI out and play videos from the tab, in case you don't want to use your laptop.

Assuming your source is correct, I see this as a marketing ploy thus :

1. Position plasma as an upscale, large size, expensive choice with fatter margins over fewer units sold

2. Position LED as the mainstream choice with relatively lower profit margins per unit over larger volumes, as a cash cow; introduce larger -more expensive LEDs as an option who wish to splurge

This will succeed in closing the door on that segment who prefer plasma due to technological and performance reasons, without having to give an arm or a leg.

This might square off with the likely phasing out of plasma production over the next few years. Sad.

I've requested a demo at Samsung store but looks like they'll not have it on display anytime soon. The store cited a reason which I found quite illogical.

Hope to see one soon. A blind buy would mean putting too much faith in F8500 capability. I'll post here if I get to demo.

I am told no 51' samsung 8500 for india - only 64'... they probably feel plasma buyers r budget conscious n will only look at sub 1lac 51' in 5500 or sub 2lac 64' in 8500.... meaning we might nvr see 51' 8500

In the meantime, looks like Pana, who were suppose to unveil around this time has forgot to do the same. Looks like they are not seriously interested in introducing the new range, so it's an open game for Sammy so far. Last year though they introduced 50 series (except VT), but forgot to get the shipments (infact 65" never touched any of the store, if I am not wrong) to meet the demand. God knows what kind of management they have here, I am puzzled.

I am desparate to see the f8500 when it is out.
The best way to teach the panny guys a lesson for not releasing the higher end models here is , for all plasma lovers in india to buy sammy f8 plasma.

Sammy releases all high end models in India honestly.
