I don't know what kind of resolution these are. Are they HD? If not, then no point in going for anything larger than 40". The SD transmission is best suitable under 40-42" only.
>>> No, I don't think DD has HD.
Display port is difficult to find. VGA will be there in some cases. However, please do check the specs of the TV that your shortlist. You could go with a tablet which has HDMI out and play videos from the tab, in case you don't want to use your laptop.
>>> I will check the compatibility.
My source tells me nothing below 50 inch is coming to India.
>>> Unfortunate for me, if your source is proved to be correct. I will prefer a 42 incher over the 50 incher (which will be an overkill for viewing preferences - primarily DTH, and viewing distance - a maximum of 10 feet.
Assuming your source is correct, I see this as a marketing ploy thus :
1. Position plasma as an upscale, large size, expensive choice with fatter margins over fewer units sold
2. Position LED as the mainstream choice with relatively lower profit margins per unit over larger volumes, as a cash cow; introduce larger -more expensive LEDs as an option who wish to splurge
This will succeed in closing the door on that segment who prefer plasma due to technological and performance reasons, without having to give an arm or a leg.
This might square off with the likely phasing out of plasma production over the next few years. Sad.
