The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

what are the advanced settings in user mode of s60?

The "Advanced Settings" are:
1. Panel Luminance settings
2. Adaptive gamma control
3. Black expander
4. Color Gamut
5. White Balance
6. Color Management
7. Gamma

BTW I just found that there is another cinema mode called "True Cinema" which offers option of "Advanced Settings". I copied the same 'calibration' settings to this mode.

The result was almost same as the 'calibration' done in "User" mode except that the brightness appeared marginally higher (but still lesser than "Normal" mode). Hues were less saturated. Overall effect is more lively picture (sparkling highlights had more bite) without any exaggeration.
Regds,

so what are the picture settings for advanced settings....gamma is it 2.2 or 2.4
what are the colour management and white balance settings.....

are you sure that there are no advanced settings for the Cinema Mode because
cnet has given advanced settings for Cinema Mode which is the most accurate
picture mode...

While CNET settings are fairly correct, they need not be most accurate as the settings will be best if you calibrate on your own. Ambient light settings, for example, may be different.

Gamma is 2.2.

Settings for "Color Management" has RGB-Saturation, Luminance, & Hue properties and "White balance" has RGB-Gain & Cutoff properties. Both have wide range (+/- 50)

Yes, I am sure. I believe CNET's report is based on last year's S60 that probably had "Cinema" mode with "Advanced "Settings" available.

"Dynamic", "Normal" and "Cinema" modes don't have "Advanced Settings" available. I guess these modes are meant for users who don't want to mess too deep.

Only "True Cinema" and "User" modes have "Advanced Settings" available.

Regds,

50ST50 is off the shelves.

50ST60 is the new model and shall cost around 1 lac (available for 94k at infibeam website).

Hardly matters what infibeam says. It is standard warranty conditions for all Pana goods. So I am almost 100% sure you'll get 3years warranty. Anyway you can ask infibeam guys for more details. BTW, I am not sure whether actually such a costly item shall be bought from online site or not. I will tread cautiously. Rest upto you.

FYI, I have used infibeam for quite number of times, but for smaller denomination items. The costliest online item is DSLR camera from Flipkart for 40K and another one from Snapdeal at 28K.

Went to Ezone ( Koramangala ) to check Samsung and Panasonic plasmas.
I was surprised to see only 2 plasmas ( 43F4100 and 43F4900 )
No 51 inches !

Did Ezone stop selling Panasonic plasmas? The sales person told me not available.

Checked in Panasonic brand shop and ST60 is out of stock.
50X60 and 50S60 were on display.

pls also read this..worried about this..

Samsung offer 1 +2(extended warranty..by paying xtra money) For LED models,,, but not on Plasma..
so below comments looks like why Samsung not providing extended warranty on Plasma series

from -->Samsung PN51F5500 Review (PN51F5500AF, PN51F5500AFXZA) - 51 Inch 1080p Plasma TV Active 3D Smart TV

Reliability
Lately, we have heard reports that some of the C-series and D-series (circa 2010, 2011) Samsung plasma TVs have had widespread problems with coloration (esp. pink or purple) against a white background. Since the longevity rating on these plasmas is 60,000 to 100,000 hours to half life, problems after 2 years would make those life span claims irrelevant.

that's for the C & D series.....not the F series.....plus even if there is slight inaccuracy in colour it will still give you an excellent picture.....and one more thing even panasonic had the rising blacks issue in their previous models which is corrected now.....so relax now and grab the samsung ps51f5500 before it goes out of stock....a fantastic tv at a fantastic price....

I have a 50C550, bought back in 2011 around the FIFA cup time. Lately the pink/purple coloration issue has reared its ugly head. The PQ is fine normally but on a white/grey background, upper right and bottom right and left areas become pinkish. TIR also seems more pronounced.

Now, is this repairable? Should I learn to live with it?

Sorry for going OT guys, didn't want to start a new thread.
