Hi,

60D is 2013 model. as of now S-Series(without 3D) is only on display...

What we are wanting to see is ST-series on display.

By default Panasonic provide 3 year warranty 365days a year.(not like only on any offer time).. what all covered? pls check with brandshowroom guys.. they will always have the first hand information on this.

From my interaction, 42inch 2013 models will also come to india in another 20days.. likely during Diwali time all the models will be on display.

Guys, just wanted to share, went to Reliance Digital last evening to check out the home theater systems, and the Yamaha system was hooked to the Samsung 4 series plasma, which aint full HD, but he pirated/demo blu ray the guy played looked so much better than the Reconnect LED I was demoing earlier which was full HD, and that too I was like 3 feet away from the display, I just found the plasma much better, not sure whats going on with my eyes!..

I was looking at the 47W800A and the 46F6400 for my room, but will seriously consider the 51F5500 ( only reason I had decided against is the lack of space, the display is 2 inches more than the available space)

46" LED tvs consume upto 140/150 watts and About 300W for Plasmas (50" or 51"). That way your power consumption from TV usage will be double for plasmas.

Typically TV being used for 30-50 hrs a week. Even at the peak 50 hrs, e.g.200 hrs a month, the no of units consumed is 35 units for LED. Against this, the consumption by plasma will be 65/70 units per month. So even at a cost of Rs 6/7 per unit, the difference will be about Rs 200/- per month. This is considering a higher usage of approx 6.5 hrs per day. Also the consumption of 300W is at peak brightness, e.g. a full white screen. Normally the consumption will not cross 60-70% of that, which is about 200W for palsma and around 100W for LEDs. Thus the difference also actually around Rs 120 or so (20-25 units consumption of LED vs 40-50 units of plasma). Is that a big amount? Yes, if you look at the electricity bill only, but hardly anything, if you look at the amount you can save upfront considering most LEDs cost 1.5 times of similar sized plasmas.

Thank a lot sir for the details

I just found this on consumerratings.org.
A shootout between panasonic vt60 and samsung f8500.

And the winner is...
So, you're probably asking, which is the better TV? By a slight margin, we pick the Panasonic VT60 over the Samsung F8500. The primary reasons are deeper blacks--the best we've seen so far this year--which provide excellent shadow detail, and slightly richer, more accurate colors, especially with flesh tones. That said, the F8500 is an exceptionally bright plasma, making it perhaps the better choice for brighter rooms where you can't control the lighting. It should also be considered if you watch a lot of 3D and don't anticipate using an external sound system. But the truth is that you really can't go wrong with either set, which are pushing the boundaries of what to expect in a flagship TV this year.

Scorecard
Overall HD Picture quality: Slight edge to the Panasonic
3D picture quality: Slight edge to Samsung (due to full 1080p to each eye, plus four sets of 3D glasses)
Color: Panasonic
Brightness: Samsung
Black levels: Panasonic
Contrast: Samsung
Sound quality: Samsung
Internet features: Tie
Menu/remote: Panasonic

I temporarily stopped placing an order for Panasonic P50UT50 after coming to know that Panasonic plasma TVs in general have power board problems. ( search 7 blinks in google). The user reviews for TC-P50UT50D ( US model) also reveals that. Anybody clarify whether this problem may not occur in Indian models as the climate is different and power is 220-240 V 50Hz.

Hi,

I am new to this forum.

I was looking for a Plasma TV and by default my choice was Panasonic.

After reading all the reviews and comments on this forum i was determined to buy the 50" ST60. But i am not able to get a demo of it in Delhi.

I went to a nearby Panasonic showroom, they didnt had the ST60 but they had the 42" GT50. Now i know that its a previous model year but it also is a better series than ST i think. It was available for around 20K less than the ST60. So now i am confused which one to go for because from whatever i can read online there isnt much difference in specifications.

Can you all please help.

Thanks

42 GT is also 8" smaller. Please bear in mind that the probability of delivering the demo piece is stronger in your case as most of the 2012 models are out of stock long back.

Better go for the 50ST60, as it is the new model, and also for plasma it is bigger the better, if you have the viewing distance.

Thanks manzb for your reply.

I visited 3 showrooms yesterday and all of them had the GT50 in stock. But none of the 2013 series in stock.

If there is no difference between GT50 and ST60 other than the size then i would prefer to go for GT50. But if there is some other noticeable difference than i will have to stretch my budget to get ST60. How about the bright room performance between the two? which one is better?

50UT50D model is out of stock in many places.. if you can find company sealed piece(not the demo piece)..
Pls make fast decision.

Reasons below:

There is no 2013 model from panasonic to match 2012 "UT" Series...

2013 have newly introduced "S" Series same price range of "UT" But without 3D. So, if you miss UT model now, have to shell out 20+K for ST series 2013 model.

FYI, you will get 3yr warranty on Plasma only from Panasonic.

Could anyone pls suggest me in selecting the Plasma TV.

I have narrowed down to Panasonic 42UT50 which is costing Rs 56,5000/- and Samsung 51F5500 which is costing Rs 69,000/-

The reason for choosing UT model, as it is the only one which is available in my rice range. The ST is costing 75K.

Bright room performance of st60 is far superior to gt50. GT 50 picture is considerably darker.
I feel that st60 should be equal to or better than gt50 in blacks.
St60 is vfm as it is just a step or two down than the legendary vt60.
