The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

UT50 is 2012 model whereas S60 is 2013 model. If 3D is not important to you, go for S60.

Thanks for the input. If picture quality is better in S60 I will go for that. is there any diffrence between 2500 ffd of ut50 and 600 sfd of s60?

To most ordinary folks, it won't make much difference. You should read about these terms and then understand them.

Slightly off-topic, since this isn't plasma related, but Panasonic looks like they're first out the gate with a HDMI 2.0 display:

Panasonic TC-L65WT600 - VIERA 65 Class WT600 Series Ultra HD TV (64.5 Diag.) - Overview

For those who haven't seen the announcement, here is the HDMI 2.0 spec:

http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/index.aspx

HDMI 2.0, which is backwards compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specifications, significantly increases bandwidth up to 18Gbps and adds key enhancements to support continuing market requirements for enhancing the consumer video and audio experience. New functionality includes:

4K@50/60, (2160p), which is 4 times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution
Up to 32 audio channels for a multi-dimensional immersive audio experience
Up to 1536kHz audio sample frequency for the highest audio fidelity
Simultaneous delivery of dual video streams to multiple users on the same screen
Simultaneous delivery of multi-stream audio to multiple users (up to 4)
Support for the wide angle theatrical 21:9 video aspect ratio
Dynamic synchronization of video and audio streams
CEC extensions provides expanded command and control of consumer electronics devices through a single control point

HDMI 2.0 does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (Category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth.

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

I am just wondering about the 4k revolution. Even to this day led and plasma tvs haven't yet caught up with motion processing woes of a 1080p video.
Now handling motion smoothly on a 4k will definitely be a nightmare.
So another 4 to 5 years will go with new 4k panels being released promising smooth motion. 3200hz motion processing, 6400hz etc..
Damn this fixed panel displays...

Heard Panasonic have stopped manufacturing Plasma panels and going in for OLED's, any info?

Did not read any such message.

Only R&D is stopped..still with their R&D results they have in thier Labs, they can come up with wonderful Plasma TV's.

Possible. 2013 plasma line up released in India so far is an indication of that.
No 42 inch options as it will be affordable for many. In 50inch also very limited options and no stock in many of the stores including panasonic brandshop.
Sales people are also clueless when the stock arrives. This is a strange situation being the leader in plasma segment for years.

How is LG 42PN4500 ? It is available for 32.5k. I was looking for 32inch led tv but after reading all the good things about plasma tv, I would like to buy one. This model is in my budget also.
Please advice whether it is good buy or not. I have also looked into samsung 43f4100, but it has resolution of 852*480 only while LG have 1024*768.

i am in for a panasonic plasma replacement for my VT20 and they are not willing to offer a plasma replacement. they are pushing a lowly LED model, citing various reasons:
a. 'it's an upgrade - pay the difference'. ( VT20 to ST60 in same panel size)
b. 'stock not available'.
c. 'plasma is closed and all dealers are selling 'old' stock. we are not going to get any new stock of plasma tv's'.

So, panasonic might indeed be abandoning enthusiast plasma market in india. sad state.. I was hoping to upgrade the bedroom lcd with a non-3d plasma of theirs..

Agree to rpm.
I went to multiple showrooms and all of them says they don't get plasma stocks from company and push for LED's especially if you ask for Panasonic plasma. Some dealers have Samsung plasma on stock. So i think even if i get hold of a plasma,i can get into to trouble during service like what rpm is facing now and will be forced to a low LED model.

There could be some truth in a). St60 is really a step up model than vt20.
The question is , how much extra did they ask?
If they are ready to give a st60 , that means they have the stock of atleast st60 with them.
How about a s60? Will they oblige for it?

When they said , old stock, which one did they mean. St50 ?

they are referring to ST60 as old. no plasma replacement offered.

They want a difference between my invoice value and ST60 MRP - i wonder if that's the norm. in any case, paying money for their problems is out of the question in my books.

my argument is: If a repair is not possible, can you peddle the lowest tv in your range to the customer? the model they are offering (ET60) can't compare with my VT20 PQ. Another forum member was offered DT60, panasonic stooped even lower after looking at my invoice - which was a brilliant deal, cracked with help from our forum members only!

Yes. You can never compare leds with the vt20 viewing experience you had.
But what other options do we have with this lousy fellows.
If it was the same case in Europe or US we could have taken to task these guys.

I am wondering if we really need to attach any importance to the 3 year warranty offered by panasonic.
On the other hand I heard Samsung replaced an out of warranty plasma free of cost because they could not provide panel replacement due to non availability.

well, considering that a fair few of the VT20s sold are owned by hifivision members, i think our sentiment here should matter.

I do attach value to 3 yr warranty, esp if it is offered by panasonic. Or at least i used to.

If anyone can help me with contacts of higher up people in panasonic - that would be good. want to try knocking all their doors thru emails and stuff before i start trying for a legal solution.

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

One legal notice would make them come to negotiation.
