The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Not just plasma or panas, for any brand outside warranty, you will have to pay ~70% of original cost to get the panel fixed or you can sell it off to the scrap dealers for ~2k.

True.. But at least in case of LED we will have the technology in market to get it rectified rt??

But if plasma is discontinued.. Any faulty operation out of warranty is the end of game.

Now that big daddy is dying, the small daddy will flex his muscles.
If you want a plasma, go with me .or go f $$$ yourself.

Guys, Firstly, a Very Happy Diwali to all of you! :-)

This is a great forum to seek advice and I thank all of you in anticipation at the start itself!

I am planning to replace my old CRT with a new TV and after doing research found out that Plasma is the way to go for the discerning viewer!

I have zeroed in on the following models.

Panasonic TH-P42UT50D

Panasonic TH-P50S60D

Samsung PS51F5500AR

My requirement is for 42 inches but if the 50 inch TV is really really worth it over the 42 inches TV, I do not mind going upto 50 inches.

A very good picture quality is the key requirement.
I do not require 3D as such.

I would like to have web browsing so as to watch youtube videos and do skype webcam chats.

Which should I be going for in the 3 choices above?

My location is Mumbai.

Thanks a lot! :-)

Guys, Had one question of 2500 Hz FFD (Focused Field Drive) versus 600 Hz SFD (Sub-Field Drive)

Panasonic TH-P42UT50D has 2500 Hz FFD (Focused Field Drive) while
Panasonic TH-P50S60D has 600 Hz SFD (Sub-Field Drive)

Samsung F5500 also has 600 Hz SFD (Sub-Field Drive)

From what I read 2500 FFD would give a crisper, clearer picture in motion than a 600 Hz SFD, considering that the higher Panasonic ST series also has 2500 FFD?

Is that right?
Then would it be better to go for the Panasonic UT series as it has 2500 Hz FFD?

Thanks!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

I have tried multiple times to read about FFD vs. SFD. As yet I have not understood what is what really. If someone has understood this, please explain in layman's terms.

Here you go : Just googled it up.

FFD

Panasonic 2012 Plasma - 2500Hz FFD Explanation Attempt | Pay The Rant

SFD:

What a Sub-Field Drive is on a Plasma TV

What's the deal with 2500ffd, the latest from Panasonic offered on their top-tiered to mid-range pdps? Will the average joe notice any difference between the two standards?

600Hz Sub-field Drive

Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data, and each frame is virtually displayed in a shorter length of time, to create crisp images.

2,500 Focused Field Drive

This original Panasonic technology detects image movements like the human eye, and optimizes the drive accordingly. By achieving instantaneously powerful light emission rather than finely divided emission, it reduces the afterimages that cause blurring. As a result, fast movement is reproduced with excellent clarity.

In English please! Is this comparable to Samsung's AMP circuitry offered over the last few years on their LED TVs.

So is 2500 Hz FFD better than 600 Hz SFD then giving better picture quality, in layman's terms?
Or an ordinary viewer will not know the difference?

Thanks!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

To most ordinary folks, it won't make much difference. You should read about these terms and then understand them.

Hi just4kix,
I was planning to buy next year, but as panasonic is closing plasma section I am considering to buy 50s60 this month, semifinal quotation is Rs. 74000 which will reduce in final pricing, but after reading so much review, sometime I am considering to buy 50st60 semifinal quotation is RS. 104000. it is little bit over my budget. I am really in confusion here. btw, I usually don't play games in tv. I usually watch blu-ray rip movies and sports and HD channels in tv.

How is the 3d in your st50?
Some time I think if St50 is not available I can buy s60 without any regret.

Another thing is that in kolkata I nowhere find s60 or st60 in display. x60 is in display here. So I am going to buy totally blindfolded.

What is your suggestion? Is it will be wise to buy st60 over s60 blindfolded (and as well panasonic is exiting the plasma market) as I have little budget constrain. (but I can stretch the budget if really required.). How future proof ST60 is? Please reply as soon as possible.

If you are really keen on plasma, you can buy 50ST60 blindfolded, IF AVAILABLE.

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

St60 is given the same rating as 9.5 as the ultimate zt60 by digitaltrends.com because of VFM.
