The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Am planning to buy a Plasma TV- preferably 60+ inches - Need help

I was researching for Plasma TV and understand following- Need suggestions, confirmations and help:
1. for best quality picture, 2500 Hz FFD technology is preferred over SFD, is that correct?
4. i went to panasonic's website and found only 1 TV model to 2500 Hz FFD technology and ie., Plasma TV VIERA TH-P50ST60D

link below
TH-P50ST60D VIERA 3D TV - Panasonic
and seems to be 50 inch

My queries are
1. Is the understanding 2500 hz ffd is better than 600 hz sfd correct? Please confirm
2. Is there only one current model for 2500 hz ffd(if above question's answer is 2500 hz)

Need suggestions, and if possible, kind of budget, I need to put in, am OK to buy TV till 65 inch, if it comes at good price.

agni as you said st60 is completely out of stock....regarding image retention keep the contrast and brightness below 50 for the 1st 100 hours of usage....and plasmas have better motion handling than leds....

yes 2500 hz ffd is slightly better than 600hz sfd and the only current model having that is st60 and is available in 50 inches only.....but the s60 comes in both 50 and 60 inches....

Also, the picture was simply great, but I had a slight bit of feeling during the demo that while watching Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel bowl, was the ball blurring a bit? I will of course check this out once more going in the shop.

I then read somewhere that MOTION BLUR could be an issue on the GT50 and VT50 series, have any of you heard anything about this?

Thanks!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

I guess one will have to take risk of burn in or blur issues with plasmas

I had p65vt20d which built vertical line issues same got replaced with p65vt30 which I used for some time and again got some burn issue may be piece was not good or so

Now finally same got replaced with p65st50 which is working excellent and am liking it.

My 2 cents, currently you have only 2 options:

- Panasonic 60S60 costing around 1.25 lakhs in limited stock in Bangalore
- Samsung 64"F8500 Flagship model costing around 1.95 lakhs in Bangalore

Apart from this i don't think you will get any other model currently. 60S60 is still in stock with Panasonic Brandshop in dickensen Road and Kammanhali.

Samsung you can check with Ezone or any other outlet.

Best of luck in your hunt for a new TV.

Yes, I know IR and Burn-in are the risks associated with any plasma set.

What I was worried about reading shaiju_o_thomas 's posts and few other posts was that is the GT50D more prone to Burn-In and IR problems than other plasma sets.

That was my doubt over going in for it and finally pulling the trigger on the purchase!

Talked to Panasonic today, they're still waiting for the last batch of plasma. I told him that I'll take anything now in 50" be it UT / ST / GT / VT / LTTE :P

I think it's high time, you should escalate, otherwise they will just sit on it. Also more the time passes less chances of getting the stock. I don't think any new stock of ST60 will come. They are just clearing old stocks. Replacement or Refund take a call also the prices of most of the Tv's have gone up now as the Diwali offer is over. It's getting difficult to negotiate and get a good deal.

Anu, right now only S60 is available in 50 inches, even I seriously doubt anything else will come, all the best Buddy!

Is Constant Voltage Transformer required for a Plasma Panel?

On another note, guys, need to ask something.

Even though I stay in Mumbai where voltage fluctuations shouldn't be much of an issue, a friend of mine told me that to ensure the plasma panel doesn't get spoilt in the long run, it's better if I use a Constant Voltage Transformer (CVT) to keep the voltage at a constant 230 Volts.

If not that, he said at least use a Voltage Stabiliser which keeps the voltage within a range of +/- 10% or at the very least a Computer UPS is essential.

What are your thoughts on that?

Thanks!

I think one need not worry about voltage fluctuations on newer ts. All of them have built in electronic cutoff circuits built into them.

I think I've to go with DT60 if ST60 is not coming. Talked to Pana's BHI and he said that can confirm about new stock of plasma only after 2days. Will talk to another guy about the DT60 and ask if it's in stock or it's not available too :P I can't believe I've to move from plasma to LED, from active 3D to passive 3D. Damn you, Panasonic.

Went to the Panasonic Store to make the final payment for the 42GT50D but the Store guy was still trying to tell me that maybe I should go in for the 50S60 instead.

Both are coming with 3 years warranty but his logic is that if something does go wrong with the S60 set, there is more chance of getting a S60 as replacement as it is a 2013 model, or to get at least a panel if not a full set.

But if something goes wrong with the 42GT50 which is a 2012 model, he says there is no chance of getting a replacement and I will have to take an LED as a replacement.

So he says why do u want to pay 10k more for a 42 inch leaving a 50 inch which is 10k lower and then take this risk of possibly being stuck with an LED too at a later date?

He says you are seeing the better Picture Quality of the GT here in the store as you can compare it with an S60 next to it but once u take the S60 home, you will find that to be very good too and love it!

Now this has once again made me put off my decision by 2 days, but gonna close it by sunday one way or the other now :-)

@Soum, any update yet, bro ?

No. I am still waiting. I called the store, they told me it is coming around 15th dec (time extended from 10th to 15th). I am patiently waiting. You said you called Panasonic guy and they are saying last shipment is coming. May be mine is also in that last shipment. As you guys are discussing in the forum there are no availability of st60, i am also little bit worried, I don't know what I will do if they don't able to deliver me the TV.

It's simple they will give you a DT 60 in place of the ST60 and ask you to watch the same.
