The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread!

Re: The 2013 Plasma Discussion Thread! [Updated with Information]

This is bad news for oleds. Panny-Sony collaboration was expected to bring down the prices of oleds drastically.
But they too realized looking at oled take off research reports, that spending money on oleds may not give them any windfall returns.
I think the sole reason is that there is still more uncertainty involved in the manufacturing processes of oleds that they can tame.

Today received my Pana 50s60. installation guy will come on Monday. Great eastern told me they will return price difference for st60 which I was booked (through bajaj fin) in check within 10 days. Agni didn't reply on price he has brought. mine was Rs 69000.

With Panasonic exiting the plasma market, folks had high hopes for a Sony-Panasonic partnership to research and manufacture OLED's jointly. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that will happen:

Technical difficulties foil Sony-Panasonic OLED effort- Nikkei Asian Review

So to improve OLED and reduce the price, they abandon best PQ in reasonable price which is plasma. Maybe plasma was running in loss for company, but those TV make panasonic topper with 2 to 3 tv of 5 tv in every best HDTV list, which was kind of advertising also. They should have at least produce plasma in small quantity from one factory.
I face the consequence as did not find ST60 anywhere.
Even If they just relabel ST60 or Zt60 with ST70 and ZT70 in CES 2014, those TV should have earn the best TV of the year :P .

Now maybe the will go with the flow and concentrate on 4K tv.

Absolutely right. Somehow it appears that the decision to abandon plasma business was more of a shareholders decision. But one thing is for sure.
For another 5 years reviewers will quote and compare tvs with Panasonic plasmas like st60, vt60, and zt60.
It will be like the kuro saga , everybody will talk about it but it won't be available.

That's how I see it as well. Videophiles were hoping OLED replaced plasma for high end displays. But the future might be all LCD (certainly all the current 4k sets are). I'll be at CES in a couple weeks and will post here if there is any interesting news about plasmas or OLEDs.

Congrats. That's a sweet price. If it didn't come with 3 year warranty, please get one.

they stick a three years warranty sticker in my bill. Actually I booked ST60 on 11th Nov. which was already within the offer period (last date was 15th Nov). And which eventually i did not get. I have to check with panasonic guy tommorow to confirm it. Price was actually 80% of MRP which came to 69600 I asked them to settle it in 69000 as I was good to them for last 1 and half month :). processing fee for bajaj fin was 700.

In this year CES whatever the top five TV those will not be within our budget, Last year at least ST60 was within our budget. Until samsung do something and make f5500 successor a great TV. Which is doubtful.

I's initially interested in LED tv (and almost made my mind to buy one from W9 series of Sony). But some stray references to plasma models in another thread made me consider about plasma model as well. I'm looking for 42" or 46" ones.
What're good plasma models around 80k-100k INR available in Bangalore?
Viewing pattern will be SD/HD content over DTH + BRD for HD/3D movies.
I've heard a lot of good feedback about Samsung 8500 series but that's beyond my budget.

you have 2 choices....panasonic s60 and samsung 5500 ....take a demo and decide....but my pick would be the s60 because of deeper blacks and well saturated colours...

After many visit many shops in Gurgaon found only the Panasonic Dealer guy having 1 Plasma in the 42inch range. It's the TH42UT50D ( Full HD, 3D, Web Browser, Wi-Fi ready ) for Rs 58000.00 along with 3 yr warranty and 2 3D Glasses. He had only 1 unit and that was on display. The BSP on it was 63990 and MRP was 75K. . I could not check the hours it has been used for. The condition as clean. Think the price is high on this one. Online show that this unit as sold for approx 57K while it was in stock. Basis that how much should I bargain it for ?

Above all is it a nice TV

Also getting the Panasonic TH42E6D from another store and he will be backdate the bill and get me 3 year warranty ( but this is only available till 31st Dec 2013 ) for Rs 56000.00.
Same offer with TH42ET5D ( with 4 3d Glasses ) for Rs 63,000.00

First impression of S60 appearance is good. Not as beautiful as current LED TV but way good than F5500. PQ is more than good in low or no light on. watched harry potter deathly hallow part one and life of pi in cinema mode (changing "warm" to "normal"). under tube light picture is good but not more than good. SD content is watchable. But after upgrading from SD to videocon d2h hd few days back i am rarely watching Sd channel now a days.

Observed some dithering grain from 2-3 feet distance. from 7-8 feet it is not noticeable. My Tv is now around 8-9 feet distance from viewing position, it is temporary and my room in 1st floor is under construction. Actual viewing distance will be 10-12 feet.
