The Movies I Liked

The Expatriate [2012]

The Expatriate (2012) - IMDb

A good Action/Thriller movie. The story is good, a non-stop espionage thriller. Aaron Eckhart could have acted well, Liana Liberato's performance was good. Cinematography and Sound mixing is good.

Cheers.

Hero (2002) - IMDb - Very simple story about an assassin who wants to kill the would be emperor of China and how the nation of China was born. Excellent visuals, stunning swordplay and martial arts, great performances by everyone, and a haunting background score make it a memorable martial arts movie (along with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

The DVD of the movie had an excellent SFX in DTS and was often used as reference material to demo a HT system... now in Blu-ray and with DTS-HD Master Audio its even more of a visual feast and excellent material for showing off your HT system.

Highly recommended, but be warned you will enjoy and appreciate it more on a good 5.1 system.

The Cold Light of Day [2012]

The Cold Light of Day (2012) - IMDb

An average Action/Drama movie. I guess the director was inspired by the Bourne series and just decided to use it to make a movie. Story is okay, Henry Cavill's performance was sad, Sigourney Weaver was good in the negative role. Cinematography and Background score was pretty good.

Cheers.

Frost/Nixon (2008) - IMDb

Brilliant movie with great acting from Michael Sheen and Frank Langella. The movie deals with post resignation Nixon wanting a way back and talk show host David Frost wanting to make a mark in the US.

The movie moves slowly and like a heavyweight boxing match, you have winners and losers in every round. However, the last round is what the movie is all about and makes it an excellent movie.

The citizens of Rome are hungry. Coriolanus, the hero of Rome, a great soldier and a man of inflexible self-belief despises the people. His extreme views ignite a mass riot. Rome is bloody. Manipulated and out-maneuvered by politicians and even his own mother Volumnia, Coriolanus is banished from Rome. He offers his life or his services to his sworn enemy.

Source Code [2011]

Source Code (2011) - IMDb

A good Techno/Mystery movie. Story is a bit complicated at the beginning, but later on becomes more understandable. Russell Peters character was not so interesting, Vera Farmiga's performance was good. Good cinematography.

The Dark Knight Rises [2012]

The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - IMDb

A good Action/Drama movie. Story is not that good, as well as Bane too. He was just characterized as a muscular man fighting everyone, never ever close to "The Joker" and his moves as a violent sociopath. Never the less the action scenes are well done. Good cinematography and Background score.

Cheers.

Machan (2008) - IMDb

A very good Srilankan comedy film by Italian directer Uberto Pasolini. A group of slum dwellers in capital Colombo forms Srilankan National Handball Team in an attempt to get German VISA and to escape from poverty.

Brave (2012) - IMDb

Princess Merida does not like her mother controlling her life and in a fateful moment she wishes for the bad. The story is not so great, but the movie has very good animation.

Ichi the Killer (2001) - IMDb

As sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer Kakihara searches for his missing boss he comes across Ichi, a repressed and psychotic killer who may be able to inflict levels of pain that Kakihara has only dreamed o

Reflections of stark realities in life: two great movies I recently saw in the theatre -

Armor, a French movie (with English subtitles), won quite some awards in Cannes, a brilliant piece of art dealing with the lives of an elderly couple, showing how depressing, gloomy and cold is death in real life and not all those glorified commercial deaths you watch in run-of-the-mill movies.

Argo, a superb drama of Ben Affleck based on a real life incident during the hijack drama in Iran in 1979, no cheap thrills and fights, but mesmerising in the thrill without cheap antics.

See them if you are serious about cinema.

cheers.

Treasure Island (TV 2012) - IMDb

Following years of successfully buying and releasing multi-part, made-for-television adaptations of T.H. White, Lewis Carroll, Frank Baum and J. M. Barries most famous works, the Syfy (ugh) Network aired Sky Movies rather sci-fi-free adaptation of Robert Louis Stevensons Treasure Island. This version, which takes some liberties and expands upon the original novel, follows young Jim Hawkins (Toby Regbo), who takes to the seas with family friend Dr. David Livesey (Daniel Mays) in search of a legendary island known for buried treasure. They board a ship headed by a proud and cruel man named John Trelawney, where Jim befriends a mysterious cook named John Silver (Eddie Izzard), whose true motivation on the journey challenges Jims trust in the entire crew.

You must watch it on bluray to get the maximum involving experience.
