Was on a sequel binge this week, but my picks of the week were not sequels.
White Heat (1949)
If there is one reason to watch this movie, it should be James Cagney's performance. That prison mess break down was really different (and that seems like Cagney's idea from the IMDB trivia).
Wreck-It Ralph (2012) (2D)
Although I hate Disney films in general due to their general cheesiness and predictability, Wreck-It Ralph did much better than my expectations. John C Reilly's performance is really good as the voice of Ralph. The setting with arcade games was cool, the animation was pretty good as well.
.. and the sequels...
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Better than the first. Actually, that was not difficult to do. The first one was an average movie since the much anticipated 'games' fell flat for me. All the while, I was thinking about how much better
Battle Royale was. BR was much more unpredictable and brutal which made you appreciate survival of the characters, whereas HG was more let's say 'corporate' and played it very safe. HG2's games were at least a notch better, felt like it may be dangerous to the characters. But it still felt bland on the whole. May be it's just because I am so used to gracious amount of violence on-screen and much of what happens in HG and HG2 is off-screen / out of view.
Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011): Even though there are moments I liked in this one, I connected better with the 'underdog clumsy fat panda' of the first more.
Thor: The Dark World (2013): More of the same, may be with a bigger FX budget. Helped me kill a solid couple of hours. Am I the only one incredibly annoyed by Kat Dennings (in this movie)?
