Excellent stuff that was - Life of David Gale, but I don't know why it gets depressing for me at the end. Feel very low after watching it for some reason.
Recently saw Edge of Tomorrow.
Been a while since I saw a good action movie.
For some reason I didnt feel that this movie had those commercial angles that are so common in hollywood movies.
The toughness and leadership of Emily, esp when Tom isnt, is something.
And the ending time reset is nice.
All in all ... something different.
Felt like sharing another movie that I have recently re-viewed and like it so much after all these years . . . The New World by Terrence Malick. Its the story of the discovery and founding of America by the adventurers sailing on ships.
The way it is shown is very unique.
Its a very peaceful kind of movie...one that you can watch to put your mind to ease. Nature, its sounds and visions are in the foreground here.
At the time of its release it went away quickly but since then has reached on the favourite list of many.
A reviewer has rightly said about it that :
"It's been said that The New World doesn't have fans: it has disciples and partisans and fanatics"
Happy viewing.
Badlapur...well ,,,, I think I went in with totally wrong expectations, hence it might be the reason it went ok for me ..... First this is not like any gritty revenge thriller, it is a revenge movie but very slow, moves at a snail pace ...... yes the situations are realistic and performance are spot on, but I was hoping for an edge of the seat material, which it isnt .......cant discuss more without giving spoilers. All I can say is for me it was a one time decent watch ....The ending however was pretty unconventional and I kinda liked it.6.3/10
Humblebee, I've watched Upstream Color.
It is not exactly a mainstream experience, and not everyone will like it. It is a purely visual movie, something like how a poem would feel like, if it could be visually represented in it's entirety (words, what's between the words, and the emotions that get evoked on reading it). The director and the DP have tried to represent love and all the associated feelings and emotions associated with the high and the low of that emotion.
Watching it with a completely literal approach, or with a view towards immediate reward, would not let one enjoy it at all.
I enjoyed it very much.
In a way, this movie is somewhat similar to Lars von Trier's Melancholia and Terence Mallik's Tree of Life, in the sense that I feel the approach towards representing it's subject matter is a cross between these two movies.
The visuals and the play of light on the movie are outstanding and truly lyrical. If anything, the movie is worth watching just for these
World War Z (2013) - IMDb - Another movie that's a perfect reference standard for your home theater with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. From the get go (the action starts 5 mins into the movie) its an assault on your aural senses, with a perfect blend of HFE and LFE and everything else in between. The audio in World War Z is one of the best ever done, its a perfect blend of everything from normal daily life (sounds in the street, people talking, screaming, horns blaring) to explosive action (choppers, gunfire, bombs, airplanes) to silence where everybody is holding their breath and then moments of utter chaos when the zombies are running amok and there is sound exploding from every side. This has also been one of the movies where the LFE is a blast, you feel the subwoofer instead of hearing it in many sequences.
The movie itself is fun, does not tax your brain too much and is the perfect getaway for an afternoon or late night of fun with lots of cola and popcorn. Brad Pitt is perfect as a father/family man out to protect his family, a bit of a departure from the typical action hero, Matthew Fox is there in a blink and you'll miss 2 second sequence and the rest of the cast consists mainly of zombies and folks out to help Brad Pitt accomplish his mission. Mireille Enos (from The Killing) is a wonderful actress, but has limited scope or role here, and has a more meatier role in Sabotage... one does wish she had more to do in this movie.
World War Z works as an action/zombie fest, and its one of the best soundtracks ever... explosive in every sense of the word and a treat on any home theater setup.
