The Movies I Liked

Gone Girl .... Another David Fitcher movie at its best, I have seen ALL of DF full feature flims starting from (Aliens 3, Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room, Zodiac, Curious case of Benjamin Button, The social Network, The girl with the dragon tattoo and now Gone girl). My best being Se7ev, which just blew me off the roof. Gone Girl is a little short on the wow twist part but is still an intriguing thriller, the mystery part is deliberately laid out in the middle itself but the thriller aspect stays till the end. Its not more so about who done it (as I said the mystery part is deliberately laid out in the middle) but more like what will happen next. However I personally was not involved with the plot as I might have expected, even though performance were all good, I kinda lost it at the end. The ending also did not convince me much, Cannt discuess more without giving the spoilers, but to me Gone Girl went as a decent one time watch .................6.5/10 for this.

Chappie ............ ok its pretty evident Neill Blomkamp wanted to keep this movie pretty pg13 or infact lass, as there is nothing much a hardcore movie goer would find and love in this movie.....
yes its cute and chappie is adorable, but its all kinda kiddish stuff, by the time it got a bit serious with some action at the end the movie was over. Till date District 9 remains the
king of alien action movie of this decade. Chappie for me did not turn out to be any better than Elysium, and for that I was a bit disappointed, I had very high expectations.
The conscious transfer of the maker (human for that matter) also did not go well with me at the end.
. Visual details take top precedence. Performances are ok. Huge Jackman is totally wasted. ............its a decent one time watch if you ask me ....6.5/10 for this one.....sorry.. :(

The story Of Luke .....Luke, a young man with autism, is thrust into a world that doesn't expect anything from him. But Luke is on a quest for a job and a date. And he isn't taking no for an answer. ...... A nice warm light hearted movie about Luck with autism, cannot compare the performance with Dustin Hoffman or Sean Penn, but none the less performance of luke was pretty decent ...... 6.5/10

I watched Captain America:Winter Soldier some time back and was genuinely thrilled and surprised. He has become my favourite superhero now even though I liked the depth of Batman movies just some time back. I followed it up with its origin movie Captain America : The First Avenger. Another good one.
The main reason I liked him is because he is basically just a good human at heart. All the powers etc are just for putting that good into action.
And then, his action is pure courage. I mean look at his escape scene from Shield building in Winter Soldier. This has become my favourite action sequence ever.
And thats why because of character and courage, this guys leads the Avengers team. The Avengers Team !

3 Days to Kill (2014) - IMDb - After the huge success of Liam Neeson and the Taken series it seems everyone wants to play the "old" action hero. Unfortunately, Kevin Costner has never been the tough action guy, that however does not mean 3 Days to Kill is bad. Its actually entertaining fare, Kevin Costner plays a CIA man who is dying of cancer and wants to spend his last couple of months connecting with his wife and teenage daughter... until of course the CIA comes calling with one last job.

In other words, 3 Days to Kill is exactly that... kill the bad guys in 3 days and re-connect with the family. Taken its not... but its decently good entertainment and Costner as always delivers on the performance front. The beautiful Amber Heard is completely wasted and even disappears for a long time in the middle... a bad think considering she is such good eye candy.

Watch it for Kevin Costner, don't watch it for Amber Heard.

I am in search of movie - new Delhi times (1986). Dir - romesh Sharma , star- shashi kapoor . Seen it long back on DD . Excellent movie . If any one. Can help me in getting it.

"Girl with the dragon tattoo" - terrific movie. I loved the north European setting. Cold, dark, windy. Rooney Mara is terrific. The suspense may not be out of this world but this is one hell of a movie. Do not miss it.

yes that chase scene had me applauding it as well, I really enjoyed it, specially when I saw the movie second time ... :)

I read a bit more about him and there's more...

He also has one of the best tactical minds in the field, where action is taking place.
AND he has peak human abilities, some of which seem almost superhuman ... like running a mile in just over a minute, reaction times so fast, he can handle bullets with his shield and ability to take bullets and still perform.

It looks as though, if we exclude fantasy characters like Thor, this is an ultimate physical world's dream character that they have created.

Focus (2015) - IMDb - Caught up on a movie in a theater after a long, long time. A nice one at that, its entertaining fare with extremely entertaining faces, Margot Robbie in particular is wow, Will Smith is his usual smooth talking self and then the hot Rodrigo Santoro. The movie is about conmen and women and how they steal and pull off one con job after another. Staying in this vein, the movie has plot twists and turns all the way leading up to the ending... and its pulled off well enought that you don't see it coming.

A good flick, a good enough watch just for Will Smith and the entertainment and when you throw in Margot Robbie it only gets better. Highly recommended though not for the movie itself... only because Hollywood has become so jaded with endless remakes and reboots of remakes and reboots and/or superhero movies. Something even though not orginial, but still different like Focus is a breath of fresh air that Hollywood desperately needs.

Furious 7 (2015) - IMDb - Really nothing much to say... its got everything from really fast cars, fast action, girl fights, and tons of stars who are along for the ride. If you like the franchise then Furious 7 does not disappoint, if anything Fast and Furious as a franchise has only gotten better with each movie.

Grab the popcorn and get ready for high octane action that has crazy stunts pretty much all over the place.

Performances are uniformly good as is the action and the CGI. Jason Statham is well Jason Statham and one would have loved to see him kick some more ass... same for Tony Jaa too. If anything I'd get rid of Michelle Rodriguez stunts... she is just not in the same league and Statham is so much more fun. Jordana Brewster has little to do (since the last 2 movies) and Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris are mainly for the laughs. Vin Diesel/Dwayne Johnson are their usual self, and Lucas Black is brought back probably as a replacement for Paul Walker for the future iterations of the franchise. They should have also tried to get Eva Mendes at least for a couple of scenes to bring back the entire team. All in all good fun and a good start to the coming summer of blockbusters... Avengers 2 is going to be here soon.

Special mention also for Furious 7 as the final film/farewell to Paul Walker who has also been one of the main leads from the very first movie. Sad to see him go...

Hi,

While discussing about the 'movies I liked' , can we add a few words about the Film certification 'Rating' also, as we all watch it in our 'HOME' THEATER:)

Regards

Saw "Khamosh" again after a gap of almost thirty years. Found it on YouTube. Most people will not even have heard of this one. Believe me, it is one of the better thrillers to have come out of Bollywood. A rather low key, little known film with no songs and with some of the stalwarts - well, not the mainstream ones - of the time. Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Amol Palekar and Pankaj Kapur. An absolutely unguessable climax makes this a memorable film. And, yes, it is one of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's early films. Talking of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, do also try and see another of his early gems, Sazaye Maut.
May I add that both these films have been edited by one of Bollywood's best editors ever, Renu Saluja. Unfortunately she passed away very young............

Saw Baby yesterday at home. Really good movie taken very professionally. A rare Indian movie to get 8.5 on IMDB.

The movie moves at a fast pace keeping you on the edge of your seat all the time. Nearly all the actors act quite well, and the hidden tension between ATS and politicians is handled well with unique sarcasm.

Baby could actually become something like the Bond series.

I believe a sequel is out in 2017. Looking forward to seeing it. This is one of those movies I want on Blu-ray.

Cheers

Binge watching the Harry Potter movies now... makes things a lot easier too in terms of continuity. Nothing more to add about the movies or the PQ & SQ. Pristine quality Blu-ray and DTS-HD Master Audio offer the very best and the movies themselves have millions of fans all over the world.

I've never read the books, but can say the movies by themselves are complete and stand on their own and are highly entertaining fare.

Can be safely watched with the entire family, I believe the ratings are 12 and above (for US).
