The Movies I Liked

Relatos salvajes (2014) - IMDb

Relatos Salvajes
is an argentine movie which really lives up to its English title of Wild Tales.

There are six separate stories and they are really, really wild. The first one in the airplane will take your breath away with the sheer idea. A few are ok and a few are real gems.

The A/V is really top notch and I would rate this a 8/10. Sheer genius of a movie.

SnowPiercer ..... wired movie ...... I did not like the movie as much as I would have hoped for, I mean the premise of the last human survivors living on a circular running train for last 20 years ..... for me was a bot far fetched ...... and then the ending .....
...... They destroyed everything, and the 2 survivors, supposedly Adam and Eve in this case, how are they going to survive in the so very hard conditions that was shown out side the train
........ again a bit far fetched. I could not give this movie more than 6.2/10

The movie wasn't meant to be taken at face value. Not one bit of it!!!

Read between the lines and that movie was the best action film of last year.

Well I usually do but not in this case no, symbolically as well it didnt entice me as much as I would have hoped for .....

Had Pre-ordered Mad Max: Fury Road on Amazon. Got and watched it yesterday.

First Dolby Atmos disk that I have come across and one that is worth every little rupee.

The visuals, the sound effects are too good and the movie has everything: engine roars of vehicles, explosions, weapon fire. Good exercise for the Sub no doubt.

And the encoding is just too good.. Dialogues are at +4Db level , I switched off Dialogue Level in my Yamaha 1030 and the volume was at a -17.5Level .

Too much !!!

San Anders ...... I had a feeling this would be another cliched filled disaster flick .... and I was not wrong .... Too many inconsistencies and plot holes ...... but then again I was not expecting much, you mostly watch this kind of movie for the CGI destruction, remember 2012 and this movie has plenty ......... performance was ok, effects were spot on which is obvious. It lacked a good screenplay, character depth, basically it was predictable to the core.....I cant give this more than 6/20

Watched mission impossible: rogue nation @ imax Bangalore last week :ohyeah:. Wanted to watch movie at imax from long time.
Its impressive.

NightCrawler ...... wow what an amazing movie. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal in his one of the top performances. Plot goes something like, A rode side petty thief discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism and peruses it with rather over zeal and soon blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.

Jake personality is shown with some serious psychopath tendencies and from an over zeal personality soon becomes a news vulture and crosses all limits to achieve his goal, so much so that he completely disregards the sufferings of his "subjects". And that aspect he has acted out so so damn realistically you seriously feel terrified by his stature. Simply n truly a vivid portrayal of a real-world psychopath. A must see thriller i ..... 7/10 for this one

Saw the movie titled 'Tomorrowland'. Fantastic performance by Hugh Laurie in a scene (1:40 odd minutes into the movie) where he delivers the following dialogue. You should see George Clooney's facial expressions during this dialogue. The movie is worth watching for these few minutes.

Let us imagine. If you glimpse the future, and you are frightened by what you saw, what would you do? You would go to the politicians and the captains of industry? And, how would you convince them? Data? Facts?

Good Luck.

The only facts they won't challenge are the one that keep the wheels greased and the dollars pouring in.

But what if....

what if there was a way of skipping the middle man. and putting the critical information directly into everyone's head?

The probability of widespread annihilation kept going up.

The only way to stop it was to show it. Scare people straight. Because what reasonable human being will not be galvanized by the potential destruction of everything they have ever known, or loved? To save civilization, I would show it's collapse.

But how do you think this vision was received? How do you think people responded to prospective imminent doom?

They gobbled it up like a chocolate eclair! They did not fear their demise! They repackaged it. It can be enjoyed as video games, as TV show, books, movies - the entire world whole heartedly embraced the apocalypse, and sprinted towards it will gleeful abandon.

Meanwhile, your earth was crumbling all around you. You got simultaneous epidemics of obesity and starvation! Explain that one! Bees and butterflies started to disappear, the glaciers melt, algae blooms all around you. Coal mine Canaries are dropping around you and you wont take the hint. In every moment there is a possibility of a better future, but you people wont believe it! And, because you don't believe it, you wont do what is necessary to make it a reality.

So you dwell on this terrible future and resign yourself to it. And for one reason. Because that future does not ask for anything of you today!

Yes. We saw the iceberg, we warned the Titanic. But, you all steered for it anyway. Full steam ahead. Why? Because you want to sink. You gave up. That is not the Monitor's fault. That is yours.

Prisoners (2013) - IMDb

A very disturbing movie on what happens when two six year old kids disappear from their home and how it affects their parents and their search for the kids and the abductor.

Really chilling and disturbing.

A good performance by Hugh Jackman, but Jake Gyllenhaal steals the show as the diligent cop. I saw him first in Nightcrawler but he is equally impressive out here even as a good guy.

I would rate this is as 8/10 for the sheer nature of the movie to raise so many questions on how one would react when a tragedy of such nature occurs.

Definitely worth a watch.

Wild Like by Frank Hall Green.
This is the recent movie I saw. It has amazing visuals. Very soothing to the eye. It is about a girl sent off to her uncles place by her mom. There is a bit of sexual abuse which is disturbing. But it transitions beautifully to a positive mode showing hope. Some breathtaking scenery.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy ........ Extraordinary movie ... I have not checked who the screenplay writer is but trust me when I tell you its one of the exceptionally original, novel and gripping screenplay, I have ever come across in Hindi Movie Industry. Add to that the direction that surpasses all, This is one movie I would rate equal to any decent Hollywood offering in the suspense and "what will happen next" department. I have no idea how well the movie did, but if it didn't do well, I am sure probably because of the complexities the plot offers. It starts of with a simple missing person investigation and slowly n gradually turns into such convoluted narration that even though it's a Hindi movie you will have to at times stop and recollect to understand what the narration is trying to tell the viewer, still keeping you at the edge of your seat ... Brilliant!! Simply outstanding .....

Coming to performances, Banarjee and Sushant Singh Rajput has completely redefined the character of BK. The movie heavily relies on Sushant's portrayal of BK, He is almost in every frame and has performed outstandingly with a perfect body language of a just emerging, novice but thought provoking and intelligent detective.

I would also like to mention the Art direction and sets, just impeccable. Screenplay and Art direction are two departments I seriously think this movie should have won few awards.

To end I would say, this is a stunning piece of cinema, complex but sophisticated in its narration, with Banarjee's spot on direction it's a movie not to be missed at any scale.........8/10 for this one which is a rare feat when it comes to rating Hindi Movies, AFA I am concerned ....

FLU ..... Korean Movies now and then have proved that they are no less than any Hollywood movie and at times better as well, and FLU is no exception, FLU is Korean take on viral epidemic that takes on a town called Bundang. The first half of the movie is ultra-realistic, and very well presented with epidemic shown in a very very grand scale, that successful brings the shivers across the viewers.

Unfortunately, the second half is more dramatized and veers of a bit from realism, may be the director wanted to bring some commercial aspect to make it appeal to masses more. Few decisions made at the end would make you suspend your belief to enjoy the ending, which is much more sensationalized in tone in comparison to the first half.

Non the less the movie as a whole is pretty gripping, realistic and enjoyable .... 6.8/10

Black Mass by Scott Cooper

A crime drama based on loyalty, brotherhood. Based on Irish mobster James "Whitey" Bulger and his alliance with FBI. Liked the performance of Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton and Jesse Plemons.
