Toshiba U79 and U80 Owners Discussion And Review !!

The Plex app doesn't work on my U79 as well and it fails to find the server. I believe it's the same reason for both of us.

I believe the reason is that the Plex app is outdated on both VIDAA and WebOS. This was the main reason I got a firestick 4k (and I recommend you do too before the sale is gone). The Plex app is also a lot newer and works better on firestick than on VIDAA.
Makes sense. Ill buy one for my U79 but ill try tweaking around with my C9. Maybe there is some unholy combination of settings that might work for me :P

It finally worked on my C9. Ill try to replicate the steps on my U79 this weekend once i go back home and check.

Here, give the below steps a go on you U79 and check

That fix won't work for me since my Plex was working on the TV and stopped working after an update to the Plex server side. Also, I'm able to access plex from my other devices, so it's not a firewall/DNS/access issue.

And the Plex app on VIDAA sucks anyway, so I'll try it on the weekend only. I won't use it even if it works anyway since the one on fireTV is so much better.

Guys i bought the 55u7980 recently and first of all i want to thank everybody in the forum for providing honest and detailed opinions about the tv, which helped me to make my decision. i also bought a firestick 4k with it because i needed a clean and fast ui and support for most apps including apple tv. i have two questions.
youtube app on firestick is not playing 4k videos. i have a 50mbps connection and when i play youtube in 4k it buffers a lot. is this issue common or i need an ethernet adapter for stable connection ?(i checked speedtest on my phone and it says 30-33 on the living room)
also i have an avr and it is connected to the arc port and firestick is connected to the second hdmi port. will i be able to take advantage of firesticks 4k and all hdr freatures without any limitations using the second hdmi port ? i can't connect firestick to hdmi1 cause my avr need arc port cause it supports dolby truehd and dts hd.

Firstly congrats on your purchase!
Force the resolution to 4k UHD on the firestick display settings and max out the color depth
25 mbps is enough for buffer free 4k streaming
Try SmartyoutubeTV app an alternative Youtube app with a lot of aditional features like video/audio presets and mainly blocks Ads!
you have to download the app from webpage and install through appstofire app from mobile

regarding AVR its fine with any of the ports. only for gaming u need the port on the back side of the TV which does 4k60 4:4:4

Do these TVs support Atmos passthrough to AVR via inbuilt app?
The app doesn't matter as you can passthrough to AVR from any input from native apps, STB or connected devices (like firestick).

YouTube app on the TV as well as firestick used to play 4k and 4k 60 fps videos fine for me on my 50 Mbps connection. Can you check in your router that you are connected to the 5 GHz band on the firestick. I believe the issue is your router and distance of firestick to the router and not the firestick or the internet connection.

Yes, HDMI 2 and 3 should work just fine for firestick.

Did you mean use the HDMI 4 port in the back which is facing the Wall?
I used one of the 3 HDMI's on the sides for my PS4 Pro as it was easy to access with the supplied wall mount.

Any advantages of using the HDMI 4 vs the other 3?

did that and it worked. i thought setting the resolution to auto would switch between 4k and fhd like streaming apps.
It should. It's a bug currently. The automatic framerate option also doesn't work. Setting it to auto resolution will always output 1080p@60Hz.

my router doesn't have 5ghz, its only 2.4ghz. do i need to use ethernet adapter with firestick to deal with the interference or will i be fine with wifi?
I'd suggest getting a better router rather than bothering with an ethernet adapter. A good router will enhance the experience of every single device in your home.

I sold 3 5GHz routers I had lying around a couple of months ago for ₹800 each. All of these could do 250-300 Mbps easily over 5GHz band. IMO it's a rather cheap upgrade that you will eventually have to do anyway.
