Vinyl I am listening to...

Posting the pictures of Hum Kisise Kam Nahin LP & EP. The side one of the LP is stereo while the other side is monaural.

All 4 mono tracks (side -2 of LP) were chosen for this EP that I have.

You are most welcome Saket. The back cover seems to be the same for all the three versions!
I think the companies must have made different covers for different releases of the records. Probably they made x number of LPs which were sold with a cover, then y more made with a different cover and so on. The one with the split cover must have been the first one for giving wide publicity for release of the movie.
I have seen another case of different covers just today, an LP of Great hit songs of Hemant Kumar from films.
I have seen many reissues also having different covers. In case of some 70s re-releases, HMV had these ugly yellow coloured covers with a collage of many actor actresses most of whom had nothing to do with the film in question. My LP of Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam is one such LP.

tonight's listening:

Shankar Family & Friends
Studio album by Ravi Shankar (on Dark Horse Records)
Released 20 September 1974 (UK)
7 October 1974 (US)
Recorded April 1973early 1974
A&M Studios, Los Angeles; FPSHOT, Oxfordshire
Genre Indian music, jazz, pop, rock
Length 48:53
Label Dark Horse
Producer George Harrison

Shankar Family & Friends (stylised as Shankar Family ? Friends on the album cover) is an album by Indian musician Ravi Shankar, recorded primarily in Los Angeles during the spring of 1973, but not released until late 1974. It was produced by Shankar's friend George Harrison and one of the first releases on the ex-Beatle's Dark Horse label. Out of print for many years, and much sought after as a result, the album was remastered in 2010 and reissued as part of the Ravi ShankarGeorge Harrison box set Collaborations.

The title Shankar Family & Friends refers to the group-participation approach to the music, from Shankar's sister-in-law Lakshmi and son Shubho to a host of "friends" from the Indian subcontinent, Europe and the United States. In a deliberate blend of "East-meets-West" musical styles, other performers include Indian-music pioneers Alla Rakha, Ashish Khan, Shivkumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Western musicians such as Tom Scott, Emil Richards, Billy Preston, Ringo Starr and Jim Keltner. The album features the Harrison-arranged pop bhajan "I Am Missing You" and a jazz-funk instrumental, "Dispute & Violence", the latter a part of an intended ballet, titled Dream, Nightmare & Dawn.

Money for Nothing is a greatest hits album by British rock band Dire Straits released in 1988. It features highlights from the band's first five albums. The vinyl edition omits "Telegraph Road" and has a different running order, with "Tunnel of Love" placed between "Money for Nothing", the title track, and "Brothers in Arms". The collection went to #1 on the UK Albums Chart. It sold 6.6 million copies in Europe and one million in the U.S.

Interestingly, I was spinning 'The best of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits' last night- the twin LP set. It's a very good collection including most of the tracks you listed.
One thing is for sure, I won't ever be able to decide if Mark Knopfler is a better guitarist or a better vocalist. Only what I know is that this man is amazing with loads of talent.

+1 Saket, "The best of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits" is also a very good collection. My fav being the theme from Cal(the long road) which is normally not heard frequently. To me Mark is a living legend.

Definitely better guitarist. Vocals while distinctive aren't exactly great. Fine songwriter though, and great with melodies - his soundtrack work testifies to that

Surely he is right there on the top with the best in terms of playing the Guitar, but his somewhat crude vocals helps him pull off songs which nobody else can. If you notice, you will find that many songs would be just average if it was not Mark Knopfler. Just my opinion.:)

Playing today: Steeleye Span - Hark the village wait

Beautiful Olde Englishe cover art, and brilliant electric reworking of British folk songs on this debut from a band that is now an institution in British music. 40 years and still going strong

Today i was just going through some forgetten LP bundles, i found one Ilayaraja composed 'MAHADEV' Lp. I noticed that the tune of the song 'mujhe bhahon main bharke dekhle' is same as 'Andhhe nilavai than nan kaiyile pudichen' of "mudhal mariyadhai".

But the songs are like chalk and cheese. What a difference the lyrics, picturisation and directors creativity make!!!

+1 Shafic, I picked up this LP seeing Ilayaraja's composition, but was grossly disappointed.

Played this 45 for my little son last night, he's a great fan of Baby Elephant Walk. Thanks Anil for this lovely gift.

Kindly note: this photograph is a stock one and not of the original 45

That's really going back in time. Henry Mancini's music made immortal by that John Wayne starrer "Hatari". Used to love watching his movies, mostly westerns, when I was young.... Brings back a lot of memories!! :ohyeah:
