with due apologies for hijacking this thread - but the urgency warrants this digression .i have found a Technics SL-D3 turntable in near mint condition , also thrown is a brand new AT91 cartridge. asking price is 12K . is this a fair price ?

my take:

The AT91 is at the lowest end of audio technica carts, the last time when I visited the United States, I saw these in Best Buy for $10 a piece. Internet pricing is currently between $20 and $30. There are quite a few of these coming into India with software professionals who attempt to resell them for as high as 6-7k INR (These days there are quite a few out there who try to make a quick buck out of vinyl enthusiasts). Table-wise, the Technics automatics are at the lower end of the Technics TT spectrum, hence 12k may definitely be an overkill (even in pristine condition and with cart). A Technics semi-automatic in pristine condition with a Shure magnetic cart and stylus could be priced at around the 12-13k mark.

12k is way too much even for a semi. I recently let go my sl-b2 with a shure m97xe for 5000. That is more in line with what most of these vintage tables should cost.

Anyways this is the wrong thread for such discussions.

I think it was "Hello I Love You" and "Love Street" that got me hooked to The Doors. And the next thing probably was Ray Manzarek's incredible ways with the organ.

But I must admit that the last time I seriously listened to the Doors was in the mid-90s. In those days I was eyeball deep into heavy metal so bands like the Doors just weren't heavy enough for my taste then. Of course I have mellowed:lol::lol::lol: and along the way, I have picked up quite a few of their LPs. I even have a new "Strange Days" LP which I have not even bothered to open. Hopefully I will get re-acquainted.

Had some friends over and they went gaga over the Doors records. I cringed. Morrison brings me down big time. Can't believe that I liked his stuff for years on end.

However, was listening to Jim Croce "I Got A Name" last night.

The 12k proposition is for a Technics "Direct Drive" semi automatic, with Shure cart and stylus in pristine condition (that's 4-5k included in the price). Usually these Technics TTs appear with their original el-cheapo Japanese carts (which is only good to include as a freebie.

The SL B2 is a belt drive turntable. They come in the 3-5k range.

(sorry to bump the thread)

getting ready to listen to Dokken in a few moments from now, its a 2 LP set, japanese pressing, from a friend:

Re: My Vinyl Session...

Last night was a Benson & Hedges Celebration album. A very nice sounding record and songs.

I must highlight that "Feelings" by Morris Albert is such a lovely song. For the best of this track, your TT needs to have dead accurate speed and I think the 1200 is just great in this aspect. With the speed accurate, this track comes soo alive :)

the last one from Dad's collection last hight

an old Mono fontana pressing, again simply superb one from the good old days, this LP is the very first one I remember from my childhood, it has a double fold cover and this was the first record cover I remember admiring while listening to this record as a kid. The very first song I learn't to sing was also from this record - My Grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf......
