Vinyl I am listening to...

Actually..I got mostly 'meditative' and 'chilled out sounding' records :ohyeah: Although we did enjoy playing Maiden's Powerslave ;) (which sounded a lot more impressive on the 401!)

I won't mind listening to Maiden's Two Minutes To Midnight on LP. It's been probably two and half decades since I last heard that track (on cassette, of course). Till date, the bassist Steve Harris remains my all time fav.

Steve Harris is the Man! Though I like Geezer Bulter a little more :)

Newstead ain't that bad either, had a unique style, used a pick on bass :)

But he God of Bass was undoubtedly Cliff Burton (R.I.P.)

Here is an extract from Wikipedia on his master piece, "(Anesthesia) - Pulling Teeth"

"(Anesthesia) - Pulling Teeth" is a bass solo by Burton, with some accompaniment on drums by Ulrich. The song features Burton's distinctive "lead-bass" style of playing, incorporating heavy distortion, use of the wah-wah pedal and tapping. At the beginning of the track, Hetfield says, "Bass solo, take one", likely to inform listeners that the song is played in one take. It was also the bass solo that Burton was playing when Hetfield and Ulrich first saw him at a gig. Hetfield stated, "We heard this wild solo going on and thought, 'I don't see any guitar player up there.' We were both counting the strings and I finally turned to Lars and said, 'Dude, that's a bass!' Cliff was up there on stage with his band Trauma with a wah-wah pedal and his huge mop of red hair. He didn't care whether people were there. He was looking down at his bass, playing." The song along with "Motorbreath" were both featured in the 2011 indie film Hesher.

today early morning's listening:

The Heath vs Ros Decca (Phase-4 Stereo, UK Pressing, 1964) is one of the best that I have. Simply brilliant.

Ted Heath & Edmond ross are one of my all time favorites and Ted is an early bird to sign up with the newly came, stereo recordings.

I have one of his Decca vinyl of 1959 pressing , the year when stereo was born.

To compare my taste on Swing Vs Latin, I marginally bend towards Swing!!

Yes, the music was lovely and the pressing was simply superb!!

Both Dad (in his days) and me tend to favour latin.

Wonder how Cliff agreed to join metallica in the first place. Lars n James were technically below average (way below Cliff's league) before Cliff joined. Or maybe they were just good chaddi dosts :D

Lars Ulrich has a very unique drumming style. His sense of timing is very different. I used to have a very tough time wrapping my head around (and accepting) his drumming. I think it was "One" that convinced me that he's good.

James Hetfield can growl like no one else can ;)

I was talking about their skill level before Cliff joined Metallica. You should see interviews of Lemmy (from Motorhead) talk about Metallica's early days. Apparently they used to be terrible live! Very sloppy. Ever since Cliff joined the band the other guys concentrated and put a lot of effort on having better command over their instruments (to keep up with Cliff).

Lars imo is a very average drummer (atleast in the metal and jazz world). Mainly because he stopped learning and practicing drums after the Black album (he's said it himself). Though I have to say his performance on Master of Puppets and ..And Justice is really classy. His sense of what-time-signature-to-play in those 2 albums especially was genius. Sadly his drumming just went down-hill from there. All the fame and money got into his head i think :indifferent14:

Agreed! His voice is great!

You are probably right. I have not kept up with the genre for a long, long, long time. Even at their peak, thrash was never a big fav for me. Nowadays, the kind of bass I'd rather listen to is played by folks like Christian McBride:)

Peter Hammill - The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage

This is such a diverse album..Elements of prog, ballads, dissonance, drama...This album has it all. And this came out in 1974! Mr. Hammill is a genius!

You probably know this already, but check out his genius in the first half dozen or so Van der Graaf Generator albums. Prog of a unique kind..

Yes I'm well aware of VDG :) However I prefer The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage to any of the VDG albums (doesn't mean I don't enjoy VDG..quite the opposite actually)

Harry Belafonte ....... who can forget his "Hava Nageela" song ..... Last night I was listening to an old Spool recording of "An Evening with Belafonte" featuring "Mary's Boy Child","When the Saints Go Marching In","Hava Nageela" etc. That tempted me to play his LP today.... searched and got it....

Now listening to his album "This is Harry Belafonte"
