As Friday evening sets in, my mind has settled to relax listening to Chicago for this weekend. Kick starting the line-up with "The Chicago Transit Authority" now that is what they were called before they shortened the band's name to "Chicago"

Record: Chicago Transit Authority
Pressing: Columbia /CBS, USA
Year of Pressing: 1969.

Highlight: This a double LP album, with some eclectic mix of Rock & Jazz. When you listen to this album, in hindsight, you get a feeling that this band was ahead of its times in the late 60's. If you are a Hendrix fan, you won't miss to see the influence especially the "free form guitar" number. There are other fantastic numbers like "I'm a man", "Someday", you'll will simply love the guitar in "Poem 58" & "Liberation".

Saturday night flavor: Chicago 17
Pressing: Warner Bros, Records. USA
Year of Pressing: 1984

Highlight: "You're The Inspiration" from this album went on to become chart topper!

Trivia: This was the band's most sold album and won the Grammy award for best engineered album.

Listened to 'Swamy Ayyappan' Malayalam & Tamil versions back to back today. Three songs are different while others have common compositions by G Devarajan. Overall I felt like the Tamil version stands out a little due to two reasons, Kannadhasan & T M Soundararajan.

I remember singing 2 songs from this record during my Junior school days, in school. I think the year was 1981. The songs were:

"Ay, Ay Sailor"
"One, Two, Three, That's Life"

While listening to this record, it brought back a lot of school memories.

I have an album of Styx and I love it and play it often.. Sad , it was a bootleg from Korea with it own self explanatory pathetic SQ :(

The only Styxx song I can remember is 'The Best of Times' which I'd heard when I was a small kid. I bought a couple of their records (which I still have) but for the life of me can't remember having ever spun them :) May be I bought them for the beautiful covers:)
