Great albums indeed. Mahiruha, to my knowledge you have very high end audio rig. How does "Dil Padosi Hain" sound? My experience with DPH is astonishing in my moderate set up. Just curious to know.

Warm regards,
Sourav

Hello Sourav,
my set up is not very high end but a decent setup in which I enjoy my music.:) Dil padosi hain sounds very good and it has some amazing sound effects specially the majhi re majhi song. It feels like one is sitting in a boat with waves hitting the side of the boat. All the Indian music I have it is definitely one of the best sounding LP and apart from that almost every song is a gem. If the recording is compared with some of the vocal Jazz albums like Diana Krall or Anne Bisson one can see the album lacks the feeling of being there at the venue but I guess that has to do with sound recording philosophy of Indian music. The quality of the LP itself is poor I mean for such great music they should have pressed it in a much thicker vinyl. One interesting thing is the song SHAAM SE AANKH MEIN NAAMI SI HAI actually has three versions. One sung by Mukesh music by Salil Chowdhury https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZPYJwZw2W8, One sung by Jagjit singh compsed by him as well in the album Marasim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxM_uX87f6o and in the Dil Padosi hain album sung by Asha Bhosle and composed by RDB https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIIP6Ezt0fY. I like the DPH version most.
Thanks.

Thank you Mahiruha. DPH album was well ahead of it's time of release. The solo modern song album in Hindi was not very common in 1986/87. Also DPH was recorded in an abandoned garage in Mumbai as HMV was not very keen on it's future and hence studio was not available for recording. Measures were taken by Pancham da and team to make the recording place sound proof. This is based on a story I listen from a close associate musician. The LP was released in limited edition and that's why it became rare and expensive now.

Despite of all odds, it will remain one of the landmarks in Indian Music industry. Gulzar, Asha Bhosle Panchamda trio did a magic. The Made in UK ACD is also very nice sounding. Recently Sony DADC has landed with a new release of this ACD.

Thanks and keep posting,
Sourav

Hello Sourav,
thanks for the info. The story is interesting. I must say if DPH achieved such a quality of recording in an abandoned garage then it takes that album to a completely different level in terms of achievement.:) I read it somewhere that this album was not at all a commercial success so wasn't pressed later.
I want to ask you about the Abhimaan LP. The normal later pressing doesn't sound good due to some artificial stereo or something but I got a first press and was quite impressed by the sound. Do you have similar experience?
Thanks.

This is the Abhimaan LP, I have which is Electronically Processed Stereo.I haven't come across Abhimaan LP first press which is Mono I guess. Mahiruha, please educate me on this first press Abhiman LP, any photo or something?

I guess there are no Abhimaan Mono LP. I may be wrong though. 45 rpm Abhimaan also sounds good to me.

Hello Sourav,
the cover of the LP is exactly the one you have posted but the LP itself is heavier odeon center double circle LP. It is definitely not mono and electronically processed stereo written on the center label. Not sure what is going on here. If you find one do post your findings.
Thanks.

^^ Ankahee is a very well recorded album. Even if one doesn't like listening to Bhajans, two of them by Pt. Bhimsen Joshi based on Classical raga are very good. Probably the only instance he sang for a Hindi movie.
Ankahee
Regards

Kaun Kaise is one of the best mono pressing LP (45rpm) by HMV. However Main Bhi Hoon Yahan rendered by Asha B has pressing issues- a constant background noise exists. I have checked this from a couple of LPs I have. The album comprises beautiful tracks.

Aao mere paas aur aao... !

One more beautiful combination of Kishore Da and RDB in Kaun? Kaisey??:clapping:
