Sympathique, by Pink Martini, is truly awesome. You'll should check it out. The music as well as the recording is damn good.

I also heard the Japanese pressing of Hotel California. What a dissapointment. Extremely noisy vinyl though the sound is probably richer than the recent reissue from the original master tapes.

On a side note, I have put up some of my besura crooning of some Kishore Kumar songs on youtube. If you'll have the time, search on my name 'Adil Gotla' and enjoy.

My pressing actually has an etching by the pressing engineer in the innermost groove. He has put his initials there and said "Eva Rocks!" on one side and "Eva Forever" on the other. :)

Lucky you....I can never find those kind of records out here. I have a few and all I can say is that, the hindi songs on CDs is just rubbish recording quality. Even the very old Gramophone Company of India recordings were just amazing. Sure, I can hardly find a quiet LP as they tend to have surface noise, but the sound of the music is way better than anything we hear from the Indian music scene today.

Hi Shaizada,
well after listening to these music in Vinyls, CD recordings are simply not acceptable. If you are lucky sometimes you get them in mint condition which doesn't have any surface noise. Actually these days I have slightly modified my vinyl cleaning rituals with VPI rcm. Before applying the vpi solution I am doing a wet run simply with distilled water and also another run after. It seems to improve the performence a bit.
Thanks.

The vinyl which is taking the Sunday to another level is

Double Lp. Excellent music. The recording is too good to be true.

hey shaizada nice last few lps there... didn't think i'd ever find anyone on this board into sunnn. I have that OK Computer record too.. it's amazing.. Kid A is awesome 2x 10" lps. You into any other current indie or older indie/punk bands? I am trying to get the collection going, but you can imagine how hard it is in India! One band I try to collect is Sun Kil Moon.. you should check it out, amazing records.

Last 5 Records Spun:

David Bowie - Low (his best album IMO)

Can - Future Days (nice Krautrock!)

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (a true modern day classic)

Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows (great album from scottish punk/alt band)

Sun Kil Moon - April (favourite album by my favourite artist.. waiting with bated breath for the new album out in 2 weeks!!!!)

SCORE!!!!!!!!!!! Bought new LP's today. Neil Young-Harvest, Martin, Mediski & Wood-Greatest Hits, The Band-Music From Big Pink, Van Halen-I, Little Feat-Feats Don't Fail Me Now. And a BIG DEAL; Buy two get one free. Just about getting on to the last LP for tonight. Neil Young. ROCK 'N ROLL AIN'T NOISE POLLUTION. Okay the MMW is a progressive acid jazz on steriods and a best of, but what the hell. Your music may vary

There are tons of quality Indie bands. But depends on the approach you have to music. I have a very broad palette for music, so I digress into many different sounds.

If you care, here are a few bands I really enjoy listening to, but again, your taste might vary:

Black rebel Motorcycle Club
The Editors
Vampire Weekend
Silversun Pickups
Arctic Monkeys
Brand New (highly recommend "the devil and god are raging inside me")
Taking Back Sunday
OTEP
Dir En Grey
Grey De Lisle (Very VERY highly recommend "The Graceful Ghost")

That list should keep you busy for a while.

By the way, I checked out Sun Kil Moon. You've got me hooked! Excellent music. Mournful, mellow and artistic. Definitely satisfies the craving. Thanks so much.

Sunn O))) is a dark organ / guitar drone music that definitely provides a fix for me. However, the completely suck on any digital media. They have to be experienced on vinyl OR simply passed on. No other way to listen to them, but they provide a very surreal listening experience. Sad, they will NEVER be mainstream. Just the nature of what they play.

Happy listening to all!

@Shaizada

Yep, I like most of those bands...

Re: Sun Kil Moon... his records are pretty rare to come by and sell out quick (he only presses about a 1000 copies). His new album is just out. It's called Admiral Fell Promises. You should really really pick it up (get the ltd edition white vinyl) from auralexploits.com. I've been listening to the album for the last 2 days and it is breathtakingly beautiful. Can't really go wrong. You can actually listen to a stream of the new album right now on www.myspace.com/sunkilmoon

If you get into them a bit more I'll put up a pic of my SKM collection (and the earlier band Red House Painters). I spent a lot of time (and money) building that particular collection! :)
